This paper investigates the problem of the interference among multiple simultaneous transmissions in the downlink channel of a multi-antenna wireless system. A symbol-level precoding scheme is considered, where the data information is used, along with the channel state information, in order to exploit the multi-user interference and transform it into useful power at the receiver side. In this framework, it is important to consider the power limitations individually for each transmitting antenna, since a common practice in multi-antenna systems is the use of separate per-antenna amplifiers. Thus, herein the problem of per-antenna power minimization in symbol-level precoding is formulated and solved, under Quality-of-Service constraints. In the proposed approach, the precoding design is optimized in order to control the instantaneous power transmitted by the antennas, and more specifically to limit the power peaks, while guaranteeing some specific target signal-to-noise ratios at the receivers. Numerical results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, which outperforms the existing state of the art techniques in terms of reduction of the power peaks and of the peak-to-average power ratio across the transmitting antennas.

In this paper we study the channel estimation problem for a CP-OFDM based hybrid analog-digital massive MIMO system. In contrast to a conventional MIMO system, two additional constraints need to be fulfilled. First, the analog precoding is achieved using only a phase shift network, which imposes constant modulus constraints on the elements of the RF precoding and decoding matrices. Second, there is just one common equivalent RF precoding or decoding matrix for all subcarriers. These constraints lead to a challenging channel estimation task that includes the training design. To estimate the channel at the receiver, a least squares (LS) method and a compressed sensing (CS) method with a single-stage or a two-stage design are introduced. Compared to the single-stage designs, the two-stage designs have a lower computational complexity. Sufficient conditions for a unique channel estimation are derived for both methods. Simulation results show that the CS method provides more accurate channel estimates than the LS method under mild conditions.

In this paper, a general framework of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transceiver design for 5G multiple access (5GMA), including both non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and sparsity code multiple access (SCMA), is developed to enhance the system throughput of next generation of communication systems. By applying generalized singular value decomposition (GSVD), MIMO channels can be decomposed into multiple single-input single-output (SISO) channels, to which the concept of NOMA and SCMA can ideally be applied. GSVD based precoding is proposed to both uplink and downlink 5GMA transmissions, and simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed schemes.

In this paper we propose a modification of the Cognitive Architectures for Sensory Processing proposed by Chalasani and Principe. Here we keep the bottom-up data representation through generative models as before, but propose a top-down flow based on backpropagation of gradients for recognition. By treating the bottom-up procedure involved in the inference step as a recursive neural network, we show that supervised learning can be used in conjunction with other layers commonly used for Deep Learning. Also, this allows us to learn models that incorporate at the same time data classification and statistical modeling of the input. We show that this combination provides classification results that are robust to input noise.

In this paper, a linear trellis based precoder technique is proposed for maximizing multiuser MIMO capacity. We consider MIMO multiple access channel with inter symbol interference (ISI). We use the trellis exploration algorithm to form a precoding matrix that minimizes the interference from other users by allocating power in the appropriate eigen modes for each user. Employing a finite number of phases, the precoder matrix for each user is first custom designed at the receiver. Then a bit sequence indicating the phase indices of the optimized precoding matrix for the corresponding user is fed back to the transmitter. We show that under limited feedback, the sum rate capacity achieved is comparable to the optimal sum-rate capacity employing the well-known water filling solution with complete channel knowledge at the transmitter for spatio-temporal vector coding (STVC). Our simulations for various multiuser MIMO cases, show that the per user precoding strategy achieves desirable performance gain with limited feedback and equal user power allocation in terms of ergodic capacity.

In this paper, a statistically robust precoder design is presented for space-time coded multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) relay networks over double correlated Rician channels. We assume both the source and destination terminals are equipped with multiple-antenna, while a single antenna is used in distributed non-regenerative relay nodes for reducing feedback overhead and processing burden on relays. The precoding matrix at the source terminal and amplifying parameters of relay nodes are optimized to maximize the total signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the destination assuming only statistical channel state information (CSI) available at the transmission sides. The optimization problem can be efficiently solved by an iterative method, resulting in a single-beam mode source precoder and diagonal precoding matrix for relay nodes. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the equal power allocation scheme and existing method with single antenna nodes.

Multibeam satellites allow for significant boost in capacity by reusing the available spectrum and regularized zero-forcing (RZF) precoding promises to be one efficient technique to manage the inter-beam interference in the forward link. In this paper, the RZF precoding problem is first cast within an equivalent Bayesian inference framework. Then, we propose two kinds of message passing based precoding approaches, namely variational message passing based RZF (VMP-RZF) and approximate message passing based RZF (AMP-RZF). Compared with evaluating RZF directly, our proposed methods circumvent the matrix inversion operation and thus enjoy a much lower complexity. Simulation results demonstrate that the normalized mean square errors of both VMP-RZF and AMP-RZF with respect to the true RZF are negligible while AMP-RZF converges faster than VMP-RZF.

This paper proposes applying precoding vector switching (PVS) transmit diversity scheme for primary broadcast channel (P-BCH) and secondary synchronization channel (S-SCH) in OFDM-based E-UTRA systems. The S-SCH is used as phase reference for P-BCH demodulation, which results in making no blind detection of the number of transmit antennas. Performance comparison is made with space frequency block coding (SFBC) using common reference signal (RS) as phase reference.

We considered a precoder used in wireless information transfer (WIT) and wireless power transfer (WPT) systems for multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) systems. We compare two representative linear precoders which are minimum mean square error (MMSE) and signal-to-leakage-and-noise ratio (SLNR) based precoders for data users and energy beamformer for energy users. The simulation results show that the rate-energy region of the considered precoder is weighed towards one side which is data rate side or harvested energy side according to power allocation between data users and energy users. Besides, when there are many energy users, controlling the direction of the data signal is important in the aspect of energy harvesting.

We consider the general MIMO relay network with K user pairs and R relays. The model to maximize the total signal to total interference plus noise ratio, with individual relay transmit power constraints, is set up. We constrain the precoding matrices to have orthogonal columns to guarantee multiple stream transmission. By alternating iteration method, we decompose the problem into several subproblems. For the precoding subproblem, which is a nonconvex matrix optimization problem, we apply the projected gradient method to its dual problem and prove there is zero duality gap between the primal and the dual problems. Simulation results show our proposed multiple stream model is efficient to achieve high sum rate and outperform the existing model in medium to high SNR scenarios.
