We propose a novel framework for the recommendation of swarm-based drone delivery services based on the consumers preferences. We propose a density-based pruning approach that uses the concept of partnerships with charging station providers to reduce the search space of swarm-based drone service delivery providers. A weighted service composition algorithm is proposed that considers the providers capabilities and consumers' preferences in selecting the best next service. We propose a voting-based recommendation algorithm to select the best providers. We conduct a set of experiments to evaluate the efficiency of the framework in terms of consumer satisfaction, run-time, and search space reduction cost.

Objectives: To develop a cancer-specific multi-attribute utility instrument derived from the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy General (FACT-G) health-related quality of life (HRQL) questionnaire. Methods: We derived a descriptive system based on a subset of the 27-item FACT-G. Item selection was informed by psychometric analyses of existing FACT-G data (n = 6912) and by patient input (n = 82). We then conducted an online valuation survey, with participants recruited via an Australian general population online panel. A discrete choice experiment (DCE) was used, with attributes being the HRQL dimensions of the descriptive system and survival duration, and 16 choice-pairs per participant. Utility decrements were estimated with conditional logit and mixed logit modeling. Results: Eight HRQL dimensions were included in the descriptive system: pain, fatigue, nausea, sleep, work, social support, sadness, and future health worry;each with 5 levels. Of 1737 panel members who accessed the valuation survey, 1644 (95%) completed 1 or more DCE choice-pairs and were included in analyses. Utility decrements were generally monotonic;within each dimension, poorer HRQL levels generally had larger utility decrements. The largest utility decrements were for the highest levels of pain (-0.40) and nausea (-0.28). The worst health state had a utility of-0.54, considerably worse than dead. Conclusions: A descriptive system and preference-based scoring approach were developed for the FACT-8D, a new cancer specific multi-attribute utility instrument derived from the FACT-G. The Australian value set is the first of a series of country-specific value sets planned that can facilitate cost-utility analyses based on items from the FACT-G and related FACIT questionnaires containing FACT-G items.

BERT and Pareto dominance applied to biological strategy decision for bio-inspired design

Bio-inspired design (BID) approaches have provided numerous novel proposals for innovative design. Mean-while, it resulted in an explosion of alternatives. Choosing a small amount of the personalized recommendations is becoming more and more difficult, and engineers may prefer fewer goals. Furthermore, engineers may choose designs that have variety and feasibility in BID. However, the diversity and feasibility of BID are often contradictory. Engineers need to apply multi-objective optimization methods to find better BID to ensure implementable. Aiming to overcome the above problems, based on the biological strategies from the most popular BID-AskNature, we proposed an interdisciplinary approach with the bidirectional encoder representation from transformers (BERT) and Pareto dominance for biological strategy decision (BPBSD) in the BID. First, we use BERT to find potential biological strategies similar to the keyword of BID. Then, aiming at the functional diversity and the feasibility of BID, we used the Pareto dominance theory to solve the contradiction. Finally, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach with three different application cases. Experiments show that the proposed BPBSD can balance the relationship between diversity and feasibility in BID. It is hoped that this work provides practical guidance for BID.

From simple to even simpler, but not too simple: a head-to-head comparison of the Better-Worse and Drop-Down methods for measuring patient health status

Background We recently developed a novel, preference-based method (Better-Worse, BW) for measuring health status, expressed as a single metric value. We have since expanded it by developing the Drop-Down (DD) method. This article presents a head-to-head comparison of these two methods. We explored user feasibility, interpretability and statistics of the estimated coefficients, and distribution of the computed health-state *** We conducted a cross-sectional online survey among patients with various diseases in the USA. The BW and DD methods were applied in the two arms of the study, albeit in reverse order. In both arms, patients first performed a descriptive task (Task 1) to rate their own health status according to the 12 items (each with 4 levels) in the CS-Base health-outcome instrument. They then performed Task 2, in which they expressed preferences for health states by the two methods. We then estimated coefficients for all levels of each item using logistic regression and used these to compute values for health *** Our total sample comprised 1,972 patients. Completion time was < 2 min for both methods. Both methods were scored as easy to perform. All DD coefficients were highly significant from the reference level (P < 0.001). For BW, however, only the second-level coefficient of "Cognition" was significantly different (P = 0.026). All DD coefficients were more precise with narrower confidence intervals than those of the BW *** Both the BW and DD are novel methods that are easy to apply. The DD method outperformed the BW method in terms of the precision of produced coefficients. Due to its task, it is free from a specific distorting factor that was observed for the BW method.

The construct validity and responsiveness of the EQ-5D-5L, AQL-5D and a bespoke TTO in acute asthmatics

Purpose Measuring quality of life in acute asthmatics is challenging, especially when asthma attacks can occur sporadically. Several questionnaires can be used to measure quality of life in this patient group;however, psychometric testing is limited on questionnaires that can be used to estimate Quality Adjusted Life years. The objective of this study is to assess the construct validity (convergent and discriminative validity) and responsiveness of the EuroQol-5-Dimensions 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L), Asthma Quality of Life Utility Index-5 Dimensions (AQL-5D) and Time Trade-Off (TTO) in acute asthma patients. Methods Data from a prospective cohort study were used to test the validity and responsiveness of the EQ-5D-5L, AQL-5D and TTO in asthma patients who were recruited from UK accident & emergency departments or hospital wards. The spearman's rank correlation coefficient, the Kruskal-Wallis test statistic and the standardized response mean were used to test for convergent validity, discriminative validity and responsiveness, respectively. Results One hundred and twenty-one participants were included in the available case analysis. The EQ-5D-5L and AQL-5D showed moderate to strong correlations for convergent validity at baseline, week 4 and week 8. The AQL-5D and TTO showed moderate correlations at week 4 and week 8. No statistical significance was observed for discriminative validity at baseline. Both the EQ-5D-5L and the AQL-5D also showed that they were sensitive to change for the recovery responses. Conclusions The EQ-5D-5L and AQL-5D showed stronger construct validity and responsiveness compared to the TTO. Therefore, both the EQ-5D-5L and AQL-5D should be considered for use in future economic evaluations.

This paper proposes an enhanced non-dominated sorting Harris's hawk multi-objective optimizer (ENDSHHMO) algorithm. In the original non-dominated sorting Harris's hawk multi-objective optimizer (NDSHHMO) algorithm, the convergence parameter is used to control the diversification and intensification during the search process. The parameter value decreases linearly as the number of iterations of the algorithm increases. This adjustment strategy of the parameter cannot fully reflect the actual optimization search process. Therefore, an improved adjustment strategy has been proposed and integrated with the NDSHHMO algorithm. This strategy can ensure that the proposed algorithm has a better diversification and intensification ability during the optimization process and improves the convergence to the Pareto front. The performance of the proposed enhanced NDSHHMO algorithm has been evaluated using a set of well-known multi-objective optimization problems. The results of the ENDSHHMO are compared with the NDSHHMO algorithm, which shows that the proposed algorithm is superior.

Cost-effectiveness models that present results in terms of cost per quality-adjusted life-year for health technologies are used to inform policy decisions in many parts of the world. Health state utilities (HSUs) are required to calculate the quality-adjusted life-years. Even when clinical studies assessing the effectiveness of health technologies collect data on HSUs to populate a cost-effectiveness model, which rarely happens, analysts typically need to identify at least some additional HSUs from alternative sources. When possible, HSUs are identified by a systematic review of the literature, but, again, this rarely happens. In 2014, ISPOR established a Good Practices for Outcome Research Task Force to address the use of HSUs in cost-effectiveness models. This task force report provides recommendations for researchers who identify, review, and synthesize HSUs for use in cost-effectiveness models;analysts who use the results in models;and reviewers who critically appraise the suitability and validity of the HSUs selected for use in models. The associated Minimum Reporting Standards of Systematic Review of Utilities for Cost-Effectiveness checklist created by the task force provides criteria to judge the appropriateness of the HSUs selected for use in cost-effectiveness models and is suitable for use in different international settings.

The population of hawks in the Harris's hawk multi-objective optimizer (HHMO) algorithm is generated using uniform distribution random number. This method does not guarantee that the solutions can be evenly distributed in the search space of the problem, which may affect the efficiency of the algorithm. Therefore, to improve the performance of HHMO algorithm, two-steps initial population generation method is proposed. This method is developed based on R-sequence and partial opposition-based learning, which is employed to generate an initial population of hawks, with the aim to achieve better initial population. Thus better convergence toward Pareto front will be obtained. The performance of the proposed improved HHMO algorithm is evaluated using a set of well-known multi-objective optimization problems. The results of numerical simulation experiment demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed two-step initial population generation method and showed superiority of the improved HHMO algorithm compares to the HHMO. The improved HHMO can be used to improve the convergence towards the true Pareto frontier.

A review of preference-based health-related quality of life questionnaires in spinal cord injury research

Study design: Systematic review Objectives: Review the use of generic preference-based measures of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) within the context of spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods: A systematic search was conducted to identify SCI-related publications that contained any of the following preference-based HRQoL instruments: 15D, Assessment of Quality of Life (AQoL)-4D, AQoL-6D, EQ-5D, EQ-5D-5L, Health Utilities Index (HUI)-2, HUI-3, Quality of Well-Being Scale Self-Administered (QWB-SA), SF-6D(SF-36) or SF-6D(SF-12). In addition to providing an overview of how different preference-based measures have been adopted in SCI research to-date, a focus of evaluation was to collate and appraise evidence for measurement properties and identify knowledge gaps. Results: Twenty-two articles were identified. No studies have used preference-based measures in their conventional form, that is, to calculate quality-adjusted life years using patient-level data. Eleven papers reported mean utility scores (across six different instruments). Directly comparable data exists for only one SCI-specific sample, which showed variation across EQ-5D (0.63), HUI-2 (0.81) and HUI-3 (0.68) index scores. Indirect comparisons suggested differences between QWB-SA and SF-6D index scores within tetraplegic and paraplegic patient groups. Only the QWB-SA and SF-6D have undergone (partial) psychometric evaluation, with the respective authors concluding that the measures have potential for SCI research. Conclusions: Despite 'cost-effectiveness' being an increasingly important consideration for decision makers in all areas of health care, there is a distinct lack of conceptual or empirical research regarding the appropriateness of alternative preference-based HRQoL measures for SCI populations. Given the support for economic evaluation within a cost-utility framework and the paucity of psychometric evidence regarding current instruments, further research is needed. Objectives: A proposed method for bridging the gap between clinically relevant epilepsy outcome measures and quality-adjusted life years is to derive utility scores for epilepsy health states. The aim of this study is to develop such a utility-function and to investigate the impact of the epilepsy outcome measures on utility. Methods: Health states, based on clinically important epilepsy attributes (e.g. seizure frequency, seizure severity, side-effects), were valued by a sample of the Dutch population (N =525) based on the time trade-off method. In addition to standard demographics, every participant was asked to rate 10 or 11 different health state scenarios. A multilevel regression analysis was performed to account for the nested structure of the data. Results: Results show that the best health state (no seizures and no side-effects) is estimated at 0.89 and the worst state (seizures type 5 twice a day plus severe side-effects) at 0.22 (scale: 0-1). An increase in seizure frequency, occurrence of side-effects, and seizure severity were all significantly associated with lower utility values. Furthermore, seizure severity has the largest impact on quality of life compared with seizure frequency and side-effects. Conclusions: This study provides a utility-function for transforming clinically relevant epilepsy outcome measures into utility estimates. We advise using our utility-function in economic evaluations, when quality of life is not directly measured in a study and hence, no health state utilities are available, or when there is convincing empirical evidence of the insensitivity of a generic quality-of-life-instrument within epilepsy.
