Design of a photonic code-division switch based on the simultaneous capacity prime code

In this paper, a novel optical switch PCDS (photonic code-division switch) using the simultaneous capacity of the prime code has been proposed. According to the transmission route, selecting the prime code forms this three-layer network architecture The components composing the PCDS and the method of data routing are explained in detail. Moreover, the PCDS uses the variable decoder and the variable encoder to replace the demultiplexer and multiplexer during the transmitting process for all of the apparatus, so the cost of the network can be reduced and the structure of the network also can be simplified. This network code-switching arrangement provides one-to-one, one-to-multiple and broadcast characteristics (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Optical CDMA passive optical network using prime code with interference elimination

One novel decoding scheme of prime codes for interference elimination is proposed for optical code-division multiple-access network. This scheme uses the correlation property of prime codes for interference elimination without additional processing, and thus simplifies the coder implementation. By taking advantage of the cyclic property of the prime codes in the same code groups, the proposed compact encoder is low cost and suitable for the application of passive optical network (PON). In addition, the information encoding of each optical network unit (ONU) can adopt two-code keying using a simplified ONU decoder for performance enhancement. Thus, this is an economical solution for end users in the PON.

In this paper, a novel optical switch OCDSN (optical code-division switching network) using the simultaneous capacity of the prime code is proposed. Selecting the prime code in accordance with transmission routing forms the basis of this three-layer network architecture. This network code switching provides one-to-one, multicast, and broadcast characteristics. The optimal connection methods and modularized design are proposed. From mathematical analysis, we see that the optical nodes of the OCDSN are less complex than Omegas. And the optical nodes of the modularized P-3 OCDSN are almost half in member as compared to the P-5 OCDSNs tender the same input port conditions. (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

prime code is one of the quasi-orthogonal codes for use in Optical code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems. However, the detailed properties of the prime code have not been examined because of its complexity. This paper investigates the performance of prime code in OCDMA systems. The correlation properties of prime code and its probability density function are analyzed. Bit error rate (BER) is then derived for the case of the worst choice of codes and al so for the case of random choice. Simulation reveals that the results obtained in the analysis provide well-approximated BER. BER for prime code is compared with that for Optical Orthogonal code (OOC) presented in Ref. 1. It is shown that prime code provides better performance than the OOC. (C) 2000 Scripts Technica.

From concatenation view, this paper analyzed the relationship between quadratic prime codes and prime codes. It is concluded that quadratic prime codes can be constructed by concatenating the time-shift or frequency-shift versions of prime codes sequences. Based on this analysis, two new further thoughts are deduced to construct more families of frequency hopping sequences with same properties as that of quadratic prime codes. One is by exchanging the two components of the sequence number and corresponding prime codes sequences;the other is by multiplying the time-shift step pair by integers s={2,3,...,P-1}.

From concatenation view, this letter analyzed the construction of frequency hopping (FH) sequences by Junjie Chen, Guuchang Yang and Chiaming Yang based on prime codes. It is concluded that the object FH sequences can be constructed by concatenating the frequency-shifted or time-shifted versions of prime codes sequences. Upon this conclusion, two new further thoughts are deduced and more families of FH sequences are constructed with properties unchanged.

Transceiver Architecture for Incoherent Optical CDMA Networks Based on Polarization Modulation

This paper proposes a novel incoherent transceiver structure for the optical modulation scheme deploying polarization shift keying (Pol-SK) in conjunction with optical code-division multiple-access (OCDMA). The system has been accurately analyzed taking into account the presence of optical amplifier spontaneous emission (ASE) noise, electronic receiver noise, photodiode shot-noise and also multiple access interference (MAI). The application of optical tapped-delay lines in the receiver as the CDMA-decoder has also been investigated. In terms of spreading code, a newly introduced prime code family named as double-padded modified prime code has been utilized. A comprehensive set of results in the literatures showed that the performance of the binary system is approximately 3 dB better than intensity modulations. Therefore, in our following proposed transceiver architecture we have also employed binary Pol-SK modulation. Our results indicate that the proposed architecture consumes less power while enhances the system capacity. Moreover, since the optical beam power is constant, the system has immunity against the self- and cross-phase modulations. Above all, the polarization-based scheme is more promising for very-long-haul high-speed transmissions over the OCDMA networks.

Experimental demonstration of efficient all-optical code-division multiplexing

New experiments on all-optical code-division multiplexing (AO-CDM) are described. Unlike conventional designs, the proposed transmitter does not require an optical intensity modulator to on-off modulate ultrashort optical clock pulses. Moreover, the use of a 2(n) prime code results in a simple AO-CDM encoder and decoder with an all-serial architecture. Thus, new systems based on the above will be more cost- and power-effective than conventional AO-CDM systems. The reduction in timing jitter is also considered.

Optical CDMA Coding Scheme with a Large Size of code Space

One new wavelength-time coding scheme is proposed for high-speed optical code division multiple access(OCDMA) networks, and a large number of new codes with asymptotically optimal cardinalities can be generated by this coding scheme. This makes the codeword patterns more random and thus the resulting OCDMA networks are more robust against the eavesdroppers.
