Objective: To determine whether problem based learning (PBL) is an effective educational strategy in chronic disease management. Methods: The databases CINAHL, EMBASE, HealthStar, Medline and PubMed were searched for articles which focused on PBL and patient education or patient learning. Results: Individual studies using PBL as an intervention with chronic disease management reflect significant changes in cognitive and clinical outcomes among individuals experiencing diabetes, asthma, arthritis and coronary artery disease. Conclusion: There is a need for more well designed studies that assess the impact of PBL on self-care management of a variety of chronic diseases. Practice implications: There is some evidence that PBL is effective in promoting self-care with individuals experiencing diabetes, arthritis, asthma and coronary artery disease. This study aims to determine the increase in mathematical representation abilities and curiosity attitudes of students of SMA Negeri 1 Banguntapan through learningproblem based learning assisted with e-books. The research subject is MIPA 2 class XI with 30 samples. Questionnaire is given at the beginning and end of learning to measure students' curiosity attitudes. The pretest and posttest questions are in the form of descriptions to measure the ability of mathematical representation. There are two indicators of mathematical representation, namely (1) determining the exact equation in accordance with the problem, and (2) carrying out mathematical operations into the equation. Indicator (1) increase is 61,90% and 66,67% for indicator (2). Overall mathematical representation improvement is 55,83%. The percentage of curiosity attitudes of most students are in the good category that is equal to 57%. There is an increase of 27% when compared to the attitude of curiosity before learning PBL assisted by e-book that is equal to 30%. It can be concluded that problem based learning instruction assited by e-book can improve mathematical representation and curiosity attitudes of students on optical devices.

Since then, PBL is enriched with development in the literature and multiple PBL models across the world. PBL, has gained importance in modern era of higher education as it has been implemented in many universities across the world in higher education. Although, world is weighing up for PBL and its positive outcomes, it could not extend much in Indian higher education. An objective of this manuscript is to give an overview of PBL across the world and in India. In addition to this, Indian higher education landscape and scope of PBL to Indian engineering education is discussed. Article ends with some recommendations to ensure growth of PBL in India.

problem based learning (PBL) is a learning strategy that uses a certain problem to encourage learners' critical thinking, information seeking, and finding solution for solving that problem. Such solutions are mostly identified in collaboration with other students. The role of the teacher is to develop innovative ideas for the implementation of PBL activities, using digital tools and digital contents. learning scenarios as materials that offer such ideas can contribute in the involvement of young students in the process of PBL. The ongoing Erasmus+ project "GLAT-Games for learning Algorithmic Thinking" involved 24 primary school junior grade teachers in education with different teaching strategies for stimulating the algorithmic thinking of their students in everyday situations. During the second workshop the participants were introduced to the use of digital tools for developing logical tasks and for the conduction of PBL. The set task for the participants was to conceive such activities, create a learning scenario of PBL and perform it with their students. After performing the activity in the classroom, a qualitative analysis of the preparation and implementation of the conceived activity was carried out. This paper presents a part of the analysis concerning the teachers' attitudes on the preparation of PBL activity using digital tools.

Block mode teaching (BMT) is a model that students focus on one subject at a time over a four-week period. The benefits of block mode include the self-determined study pace and improved success rate. This paper presents the design of two block mode problem based learning (PBL) engineering units, in which first-year engineering students have the opportunities to learn engineering knowledge while experiencing using the knowledge in real-world practices. Two different PBL unit delivery structures are demonstrated, namely a "learning Ahead of Practice (LAP) mode" and "learning in Practice (LIP) mode" in which the teaching formats have been designed and implemented to effectively deliver the contents in a four-week block period. Students are able to consistently work on their design, practice, and participate in teamwork while focusing only on one unit at a time. This in turn increases engagement and performance and raises the quality of learning.

the role of problem based learning (PBL) is relative clear in domains such as medicine but its efficacy in engineering is as yet less certain. To clarify the role of PBL in engineering, a 3 day workshop was conducted for senior Brazilian engineering academics where they were given the theory and then an immersive PBL experience. One major purpose for running this workshop was for them to identify suitable courses where PBL could be considered. During this workshop, they were split in teams and given a diverse range of problems. At the conclusion of the workshop, a quantifiable survey was conducted and the results show that PBL can deliver superior educational outcomes providing the student group is drawn from the top 5% of the year 12 students, and that significantly higher resources are made available. Thus, any proposed PBL program in engineering must be able to demonstrate that it can meet these requirements before it can move forward to implementation.
