Hazard identification is the first step of risk management. It is vital to ensure quality of risk management. To improve the consistency and completeness of hazard analysis of complex system, such as offshore installations, this paper proposes a method in relation with hazards modelling and reasoning to systematically dealing with hazard analysis, eventually it helps with process safety including digital solutions. The Multilevel Flow Modeling (MFM) method is selected as a modeling framework. The definition of hazards, hazard taxonomies, hierarchy of hazards, and domino effect in terms of MFM and reasoning for its escalating consequence are introduced. The method is applied to the case study of an industrial real complex oil well test process in the North Sea for analyzing a hypothetical accident, which is assuming that the fire and explosion following loss of containment of HP flare header. The results show that the method can facilitate hazard analysis. It potentially can connect condition monitoring information of equipment to avoid such accident happening.

Production planning in the Semiconductor Industry (SI) has emerged as the most complex process due to its process complexity, technological constraints and high-mix low-volume production characteristics. In this paper, we present two different production planning approaches, developed by STMicroelectronics and G-SCOP research laboratory, to better control the production in 300mm production line at Crolles. At first, a mixed integer program (MIP) is proposed that projects the production lot trajectories (start and end dates) for the remaining subsequent steps, taking into account finite production capacities. A heuristic is then proposed to simplify the problem of finite capacity by neglecting equipment capacity. This approach results in the development of an infinite capacity WIP projection engine that complies with lots due dates and takes into account cycle time variability.

The rise in demand and price for raw materials is pushing manufacturing industries to look for new ways to secure parts and products for their production while keeping the expenses low. Remanufacturing as the manifestation of circular paths can contribute towards sustainability (in terms of extension of use and reduction of waste). This work proposes a decision-support system to select, through adaptability, product and parts for remanufacture. It makes use of complexity analysis and production capacity (i.e., demand) to quantify costs. The complexity level was related with (i) characteristics of components and (ii) disassembly transitions. The decision system is conceived to assess, through inspection, the potential of a product/part for re-manufacturability based on failure pattern and recoverable rate. The re-manufacturability is evaluated, on cost alternatives, as per regeneration using additive or subtractive manufacturing, reuse of components/parts, recovery of materials, disposal. The additive alternative was analyzed over complexity (suggesting alternatives while estimating costs vs. complexity) which increases interest in the applicability to recover complex forms of limited (unplanned) demand. To demonstrate the applicability, authors quantified costs involving the remanufacturing of gear pumps parametrizing parts on a complexity amount after a relative product recyclability selection. Results evaluate (dis)assembly and regeneration across main feature assessment.

Conventional HAZOP is a collaborative and multidisciplinary activity to identify the hazards associated to operability of the chemical processes. Then the consequences and required safeguards of each potential deviation or failure are assessed qualitatively one by one. It is performed with the assumption of "one failure at the time" for the process parameters. Furthermore, process complexities such as multiple failures, domino effects, time and amplitude dependent deviations etc. are avoided to keep the HAZOP brainstorming sessions systematic and effective. Therefore, the quality and outcomes of HAZOP study are relatively subjective and depend on the experience and competency of the HAZOP team. This simplified approach cannot fully cover the hazard identification and risk assessment of the complex processes such as polymerization. Furthermore, the incident investigations show that almost all major accidents have occurred due to multiple failures or domino effects. This paper aims at developing a practical methodology in the context of "Industry 4.0" and particularly illustrate how dynamic simulation liberates the HAZOP team from the simplification assumptions such as one failure at the time or neglecting the domino effects during the lifecycle of the complex processes. An industrial styrene bulk five radical polymerization process has been chosen as the case study to depict the applicability of the proposed method. In continuation of this research, the dynamic simulation integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms and Multivariable process Monitoring (MPM) together with virtual collaboration tools will be invoked towards a more practical and effective HAZOP 4.0 platform. Such a platform can be the foundation of the further process Safety Management (PSM) elements such as "Operating manuals", "Training and Competency management", "Condition monitoring and predictive maintenance", "Management of Change", "Pre-Start-up Safety Review", etc. Copyright (C) 202

Does Security Impact E-procurement Performance? Testing a Model of Direct and Moderated Effects

Despite the widespread adoption of e-procurement and the critical role of information security in these situations, academic research examining the relationship between information security and e-procurement performance has been surprisingly minimal. This study represents an interdisciplinary approach to present and test a theoretical model that links security in e-procurement processes to e-procurement performance. E-procurement performance is measured as a combination of cost savings, order quality, and satisfaction of fulfillment as perceived by buyers. The model also posits that two aspects of the procurement process will enhance the value of security in e-procurement, namely, process complexity and process interdependence. We empirically examine these relationships using data collected from procurement managers. Our results have important implications for managing the e-procurement process.

The issue of business process variants management has been addressed several times already. However new situations with their own specific arise all the time, and proper solutions need to be developed in order to address such specific context. process variants management at eBay is an example of such a situation. Variants are imposed by business facts, and only for a single process there could be more than 8000 variants. In this paper we introduce an ontology based approach to address the management of business process variants. The ontology based solution relates business context with reusable process flow elements, thus binding the reason for which a variant has been introduced with the variant itself. Variants can be later compared and queried for based on this relationship. In such a context, first, one has to model for reuse to be able to model with reuse. In order to provide a complete process variants management approach, the ontology based solution is complemented by an inheritance mechanism.

Purpose - The study demonstrates that firms can effectively involve customers in new service development (NSD) to create radically innovative, high-performing new services. Prior research found no effect of customer involvement on radicalness in NSD programs, but the current study provides evidence that customer involvement in the design stage of NSD projects can increase the radical innovativeness of a new service. Design/methodology/approach - Surveys from 160 firms captured information on the development process, participants and outcomes of recent service innovation projects. Direct effect and mediation hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. Findings - Customer involvement in the NSD process increases the innovativeness of a new service when customers are involved in the design stage and when the influence is mediated by process complexity. Customer involvement in the development stage has no significant effect on service innovativeness. process complexity also mediates the positive influence of frontline employee and cross-functional team involvement in the NSD process on service innovativeness. Practical implications - To produce radically innovative new services, managers should: focus on customer involvement in the design phase and build an understanding of how the customer creates value-in-context, and use a detailed but flexible development process and provide extensive opportunities for interaction of customers, frontline employees and cross-functional teams throughout the NSD process. Originality/value - The study draws on complexity theory to explain how a complex NSD process enhances participants' creativity and learning and increases the innovativeness of a new service.

IT Ticket Classification: The Simpler, the Better

Recently, automatic classification of IT tickets has gained notable attention due to the increasing complexity of IT services deployed in enterprises. There are multiple discussions and no general opinion in the research and practitioners;community on the design of IT ticket classification tasks, specifically the choice of ticket text representation techniques and classification algorithms. Our study aims to investigate the core design elements of a typical IT ticket text classification pipeline. In particular, we compare the performance of TF-IDF and linguistic features-based text representations designed for ticket complexity prediction. We apply various classifiers, including kNN, its enhanced versions, decision trees, naIve Bayes, logistic regression, support vector machines, as well as semi-supervised techniques to predict the ticket class label of low, medium, or high complexity. Finally, we discuss the evaluation results and their practical implications. As our study shows, linguistic representation not only proves to be highly explainable but also demonstrates a substantial prediction quality increase over TF-IDF. Furthermore, our experiments evidence the importance of feature selection. We indicate that even simple algorithms can deliver high-quality prediction when using appropriate linguistic features.

A roadmap to critical redesign choices that increase the robustness of business process redesign initiatives

The elaborate analysis of a business process (BP) typically informs its potential for business process redesign (BPR), but the latter is usually conducted in a non-systematic way. The purpose of this paper is the introduction of the Business process Redesign Capacity Assessment (BP-RCA) framework that assesses the redesign capability of BP models, prior to their implementation. This study combines key redesign features introduced by domain experts, to a conceptual framework that takes into consideration an inclusive set of BPR components in three consecutive phases, towards facilitating organizations in the practice of redesign decision making. In this paper, an illustrative case study is used to present the initial phase (selection) of the framework. To assess the usability of the BP-RCA, the authors reviewed twelve established redesign initiatives from literature which proved to implicitly follow similar steps to the proposed framework. The findings indicate that the BP-RCA framework provides a systematic exploration of fundamental redesign aspects and can be used as a reliable measurement of the redesign capacity of candidate BP models. The framework also provides practitioners with the necessary methodology for increasing the BPR effectiveness, the robustness of the varying initiatives and the overall innovativeness of businesses. © 2021 by the authors.
