Deer sinew with medicine and food homology: A review of traditional efficacy and uses, processing technology, composition, pharmacological effects and application prospects

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Deer Sinew, as a kind of precious traditional Chinese medicine, was first recorded in Xin Xiu Ben Cao (Newly Revised Materia Medica). This animal medicine had a long history of ethnomedicinal and food uses, was widely used in the treatment of kidney deficiency and strain, weakness of tendons and bones, rheumatism and paralysis, cold uterus, impotence and nocturnal emissions and so on. However, a systematic review of deer sinews had been lacking. Aim of the review: The purpose of this paper was to comprehensively review the traditional efficacy and uses, processing techniques, composition, pharmacological effects and application prospects of Deer Sinew. We focused on the traditional medicinal and edible uses of Deer Sinew and so on. In addition, the pharmacological effects of Deer Sinew collagen and its derived peptides and the limitations of Deer Sinew were also discussed. Methods: This narrative review searched electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Elsevier, SciFinder, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Masters and Doctoral Dissertations. And other information about Deer Sinew was found in traditional Chinese medical ancient works, local Chinese medicine standards and modern books. Results: Deer Sinew was recorded in traditional Chinese medical ancient works and modern books, etc. It was a kind of animal medicine with a long history, with the traditional efficacy of tonifying the liver and kidney, strengthening the tendons and bones, and dispelling wind-dampness. Deer Sinew belonged to the medicine and food homology, not only has a high medicinal value, can be combined with other Chinese medicines to form a formula or Chinese patent medicine to prevent and treat many diseases, but also often used in food, the Chinese dietary culture is not lacking in Deer Sinew. Background: Preserved eggs are a kind of traditional Chinese egg products with a long history, which are highly valued by consumers. Preserved eggs are usually made from fresh poultry eggs in pickling solutions containing strong alkali, salt, and metallic salts. Preserved eggs not only have a unique color, fragrance, and flavor, but also have improved nutritional value and functional activity;thus, they have attracted the attention of researchers. Scope and approach: Although preserved eggs have been widely studied, there are not yet systematic enough. To deepen research on preserved eggs, this paper summarizes the processing technology, metal ion regulation, functional activity, and formation mechanism of gelation, color, flavor, and Songhua of preserved eggs, and raises ideas for the future study of preserved eggs. Key findings and conclusions: Under the synergistic induction of strong alkali and metal ions, in fresh poultry eggs, sols gradually aggregate to form gels, thus becoming preserved eggs. In the process, the Maillard reaction occurs between the amino acids and glucose present in the eggs, forming the unique flavor and color of preserved eggs. In addition, under the action of strong alkali, proteins and lipids gradually degrade into small molecule peptides and amino acids, which not only enriches the flavor of preserved eggs, but also produces many active peptides. The mechanism of preserved eggs formation is completely explained, and evidence shows that it can be regulated to produce healthier, nutritious, and delicious preserved eggs.

Plant proteins are high-quality dietary components of food products. With the growing interest in sustainable and healthy food alternatives, plant proteins have gained significant attention as viable substitutes for animal-based proteins. Understanding the diversity of protein sources derived from plants, novel processing technology, and multiple applications is crucial for developing nutritious and sustainable plant protein-based products. This Review summarizes the natural sources of traditional and emerging plant proteins. The classifications, processing technologies, and applications of plant protein-based products in the food industry are explicitly elucidated. Moreover, the advantages and disadvantages of plant protein-based food products are revealed. Strategies such as protein fortification and complementation to overcome these shortcomings are critically discussed. We also demonstrate several issues that need to be addressed in future development.

Effects of processing technology on Property and Microstructure of Rare Earth Containing Ceramic Composite

Effects of processing technology on the properties such as relative density, flexural strength, fracture toughness, hardness, etc. and the microstructure of rare earth yttrium containing Al2O3/(W, Ti)C ceramic composite were experimentally investigated. It suggests that different processing parameters can undoubtedly result in different microstructures and different mechanical properties of the material. Under the experimental conditions, the suitable hot pressing temperature is 1720 ～ 1780 ℃, the time duration is 10 ～ 30 min and the hot pressing pressure is 30 ～ 35 MPa. The corresponding relative density can even be higher than 98 %. With SEM and TEM observation, each phases in the ceramic material is found to be in fine grains and distribute homogeneously. Typical fracture feature of the material is the mixture of both intergranular and introgranular fracture. Additionally, the existence of rare earth yttrium containing nanometer or sub-micron meter sized ceramic grains, dislocations and spontaneous microcracks can also contribute to the further improvement of the mechanical properties of the ceramic composite.

Thermoplastic Starch/Wood Composites: Effect of processing technology, Interfacial Interactions and Particle Characteristics

Thermoplastic starch (TPS)/wood composites in a wide composition range were prepared in an internal mixer followed by compression molding. Three types of lignocellulose fibers were used to study the effect of particle and surface characteristics on the processabUity as well as the mechanical and water absorption properties of the composites. The mechanical properties of these composites were also compared with those of the composites processed by injection molding in an earlier study and the effect of processing technology on the mechanical properties was also investigated. The processing of TPS/ lignocellulose composites in the interna1 mixer demanded more energy with increasing amount and aspect ratio of the fibers as a result of a network formation. Only a small variation among the dispersion component of the surface tension of the wood samples was found, and almost no difference in the stiffness and strength of the composites prepared in the internal mixer was observed. The results proved that the influence of the processing method on the stiffness and strength of the composites depends strongly on the aspect ratio of the wood particles. Increasing anisotropy results in increasing difference in the mechanical properties of the composites prepared by different methods. The equilibrium water uptake of the fibers and the composites depended especially on the size and, consequently, on the specific surface area of the woodfibers.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the quality of Moyao(Myrrh)in the identification of the geographical origin and processing of the ***:Raw Moyao(Myrrh)and two kinds of Moyao(Myrrh)processed with vinegar from three countries were identified using near-infrared(NIR)spectroscopy combined with chemometric *** component analysis(PCA)was used to reduce the dimensionality of the data and visualize the clustering of samples from different categories.A classical chemometric algorithm(PLS-DA)and two machine learning algorithms[K-nearest neighbor(KNN)and support vector machine]were used to conduct a classification analysis of the near-infrared spectra of the Moyao(Myrrh)samples,and their discriminative performance was ***:Based on the accuracy,precision,recall rate,and F1 value in each model,the results showed that the classical chemometric algorithm and the machine learning algorithm obtained positive *** all of the chemometric analyses,the NIR spectrum of Moyao(Myrrh)preprocessed by standard normal variation or Multivariate scattering correction combined with KNN achieved the highest accuracy in identifying the geographical origins,and the accuracy of identifying the processing technology established by the KNN method after first-order derivative pretreatment was the *** best accuracy of geographical origin discrimination and processing technology discrimination were 0.9853 and 0.9706 ***:NIR spectroscopy combined with chemometric technology can be an important tool for tracking the origin and processing technology of Moyao(Myrrh)and can also provide a reference for evaluations of its quality and the clinical use.

Tool wear characteristics of cutting and extrusion processing technology based on the edge-chipping effect

Purpose - The cutting and extruding processing technology for ceramics based on the edge-chipping effect is a new contact removal machining method for hard, brittle materials such as engineering ceramics. This paper aims to provide an important reference to understand the tool wear mechanism and the wear law of this new processing technology. Design/methodology/approach - The real-time temperature monitoring and the observation of micro-morphology are used to analyse the wear characteristics of the tool face. In addition, the research focuses on the influence of three processing parameters (axial feed rate, thickness of flange and depth of groove) on characteristics including tool wear. Findings - The temperature variation shows that the new processing technology improves the tool temperatures condition. The tool is worn mainly by mechanical friction including abrasive wear, and the flank face also suffers the sustained scratching of residual materials on the rough machining surface. With increased feed rate, the wear of the rear face of the major flank initially decreased and then increased. As the depth of the retained flange increases, the wear became worse. The wear initially decreased and then increased with increasing depth of groove. Research limitations/implications - Study on the new processing technology is still in its early stages. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the proposed propositions further. Practical implications - The machining process itself destroys materials, albeit a controllable manner: based on this principle, the authors proposed a new machining technology based on cracks driven by edge chipping. In this way, the surface of such ceramics is removed. Therefore, the research provides a new method for reducing processing costs and promoting the extensive application of engineering ceramic materials. The automobile industry is an important pillar of the national economy. In response to the increasingly serious problems of energy depletion and environmental pollution, saving energy consumption and reducing pollutant emissions have become urgent requirements for the automotive industry. The most important solution at present is to reduce the weight of the car body through the application of new and multiple materials. As far as the structural materials of automobiles are concerned, they have been developed from traditional steel and aluminum to high-strength steel, high-strength aluminum alloy, fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite (PMC), ceramic matrix composite (CMC), and other new materials. The advancement of materials and processing methods has greatly contributed to the overall safety and performance improvement of vehicles. However, the main challenges faced by the automobile industry during this transition include higher manufacturing costs for new materials, lower production efficiency, and greater difficulty in material recycling. Correspondingly, in this review, we try to explore the processing methods that have been improved in recent years and outlook the challenges that the automobile industry is facing.

Interior design pursues the combination of emotion and artistic conception. The creation of artistic situation is the highest aesthetic realm of interior design and the main factor that determines the quality of design. It satisfies people's beautiful imagination of interior space environment. Soft-fitting design is an essential link in interior space design and is also the key to optimize interior design. Based on the creation of artistic situations and the influence of coastal climate, a systematic study has been carried out on the processing technology and design optimization of soft materials in interior design. The general principles of material selection in interior design have been explored. The research results can guide the application of interior design in reality and have certain theoretical and practical significance, providing certain theoretical reference for the systematic research of interior design in China.
