The definition of the coastal edge that defines the outline of the coastline, is one of the main tasks in the drafting of digital maps. The solution to this problem is extremely important for maritime navigation. It is important to constantly monitor the outlines of coastlines in connection with natural disasters that can change the coastal edge, such as landslides, tsunami, ice melting, etc. This, in turn, can lead to dangerous consequences for vessels carrying out civil transportation and humanitarian assistance in waters affected by natural disasters. The solution to this problem is of particular importance for archipelago countries such as Indonesia, England, etc The most common methods for determining the coastline are radar-optical methods using optical-radar systems located on-board unmanned small aerial vehicles flying according to predetermined programs. This makes it possible to determine the outlines of the coastline in an automatic (automated) mode, in fact, not depending on weather conditions, and to receive operational information in real-time, practically without time delays The paper considers and analyzes the algorithm for determining the coastal edge using small-sized radar stations located on small unmanned aerial vehicles. This allows you to fully automate the monitoring process. Depending on the characteristics of the on-board equipment and its operating modes, the accuracy of determining the land-sea edge can reach one and a half meters.

In modern microwave measurements the six-port reflectometers and receivers are used in telecommunications, radiolocation, medicine, Internet of things. The signal processing is based on the algorithms and models that using the redundant information and is aimed at accuracy improving and uncertainty reducing. The Kalman filter is proven to be helpful in signals with errors processing. There was proposed a finite state machine (FSM) with such states as prediction and update for Kalman filter algorithm and its simulation with the help of field programmable gate array (FPGA).

The report presents the results of statistical processing of linear acceleration signals of healthy people and patients with diseases of the nervous system, in which there are deviations in the musculoskeletal system. Software and algorithmic support for processing the research results is described. According to the results of signal processing conclusions about the informative of the linear acceleration signals components for the study of the kinematics of the lower limbs.

Ballistocardiography (BCG) is a promising unobtrusive method for home e-healthcare systems, and has attracted increasing interest in recent years along with technological advances in related biomedical, electrical engineering and computer science fields. While existing systems have investigated the efficacy of BCG setups in bed, backrest, seat or scale positions, we propose to study BCG in headrest position that will allow new practical and portable applications. To this end, we designed and implemented a multi-modality sensing system including a high-sensitivity microbend fiber optic BCG sensor. In this preliminary study, we have collected multi-modality physiological data on 3 human subjects. We ran extensive analysis on BCG in correlation with ECG, and identified special characteristics of the signal in the new BCG setup. The result suggests that new appropriate computing techniques are necessary for accurately recovering the heart beat signal. Therefore, we developed a novel algorithm for heart beat detection. We evaluate the algorithm with the data and demonstrate that it can accurately compute heart rate intervals in the headrest BCG despite significant signal distortion.

A Radio Interferometric Correlator Based on Graphics-processing Units

A correlator capable of processing data streams at a maximum rate of 16 Gb/s from each station in quasi-real time mode has been developed to process observations on new RT-13 radio telescopes of the Quasar VLBI network. The total data stream at the correlator input is as large as 96 Gb/s. The correlator is software-controlled and implements the FX processing algorithm. Graphical processing units manufactured by NVIDIA are used to perform the most laborious operations: fast Fourier transform, spectrum multiplication and addition, and extraction of phase calibration signals. The correlator, which was produced in 2014, has been processing observations of the Badary and Zelenchukskaya Observatories of the Quasar VLBI network for more than 2 years and a number of UT1-UTC World Time estimates have been obtained.

This paper presents a smart embedded Functional Electrical Stimulator (FES), able to stimulate a muscle only when a specific movement pattern occurs. This pattern is detected using an inertial measurement unit (IMU) coupled with a feature detector and a neural classifier. Architecture of the FES is first presented, then embedded processing algorithms composed of feature extraction and neural network classification are detailed. Results show that the muscle vibration happening when stimulation is needed can be recognized in more than 90% of cases using less than 3% of average embedded processor resources on a ARM M4F.

In this paper, a problem of the evaluation of the far-field (Fraunhofer) zone (FZ) threshold of the frequency diversity arrays (FDA) for multipurpose using is presented. It is shown, that because of space-time dependency of the array field, such parameters of partial signals as a relative bandwidth, a spectrum overlap factor and an amplitude distribution should be taken into account for FZ threshold evaluation. Criteria for FZ threshold based on the relative errors of the evaluation of the time-dependent directivity factor is proposed. As an example of the linear equidistant FDA, estimates of the FZ threshold by proposed criteria are obtained. The results can be useful to the design of processing algorithms of cognitive control for FDA radars, as well as in experimental and simulation studies.

Interlaboratory comparative tests are an important means of testing the quality of metrological services, provided by calibration laboratories. In many cases, when conducting interlaboratory comparisons, it is necessary to develop or coordinate calibration methods, used by the participating laboratories. In the area of excess pressure measurements, when determining the effective area of measuring piston systems of pressure gauges when transferring a unit of magnitude, GOST 8.479-82 and OIML R 110 with different estimation algorithms are used. The aim of this article is to carry out a comparative analysis of processing algorithms for determining the effective area of the piston and justifying the choice of the preferred algorithm for transmitting the pressure unit. Results of carrying out the work show that both of the analyzed algorithms are special cases of using the weighted least squares method with a different choice of mass. Application of the algorithms is illustrated by the calculations for the measurement results obtained during calibration. The advantage of one of the algorithms is shown. Relevance of the paper lies in the fact that it is aimed at solving a currently important issue concerning harmonization of methods for evaluating measuring results adopted in national and international regulatory documents.

To standardize parameters used in seismometer testing and calibration and to make these algorithms accessible to the seismological community, we have developed a new seismometer testing software package called Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory (ASL) Sensor Test Suite. This software is written in Java and makes use of Seismological Exchange for Earthquake Data (SEED) format. Our goal is not to be all-inclusive but instead to focus on a few of the instrumentation tests we view as critical when verifying a sensor's performance. The tests include self-noise, relative azimuth, relative gain, and estimation of the poles and zeros. For the self-noise and the relative azimuth, we also include three-component versions of these tests to allow for the case of sensors with potentially different orientations (e.g., boreholes). The software has been made available on GitHub with the hope that it will be useful for other seismologists who need to quickly verify various sensor parameters without having to write their own versions of the algorithms. Furthermore, by using a common platform and processing algorithms, it becomes possible to compare results among different tests with similar processing methods being used for both.

Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR) is one of a number of technologies that have been used to improve landmine detection efficiency. The clutter environment within the first few cm of the soil where landmines are buried, exhibits strong reflections with highly non-stationary statistics. An antipersonnel mine(AP) can have a diameter as low as 2cm whereas many soils have very high attenuation frequencies above 3GHZ. The landmine detection problem can be solved by carrying out system level analysis of the issues involved to synthesise an image which people can readily understand. The SIMCA ('SIMulated Correlation algorithm') is a technique that carries out correlation between the actual GPR trace that is recorded at the field and the ideal trace which is obtained by carrying out GPR simulation. The SIMCA algorithm firstly calculates by forward modelling a synthetic point spread function of the GPR by using the design parameters of the radar and soil properties to carry out radar simulation. This allows the derivation of the correlation kernel. The SIMCA algorithm then filters these unwanted components or clutter from the signal to enhance landmine detection. The clutter removed GPR B scan is then correlated with the kernel using the Pearson correlation coefficient. This results in a image which emphasises the target features and allows the detection of the target by looking at the brightest spots. Raising of the image to an odd power > 2 enhances the target/background separation. To validate the algorithm, the length of the target in some cases and the diameter of the target in other cases, along with the burial depth obtained by the SIMCA system are compared with the actual values used during the experiments for the burial depth and those of the dimensions of the actual target.
