Assessment of Soy Genotype and processing method on Quality of Soybean Tofu

Protein quality in six soybean varieties, based on subunit composition of their protein, was correlated with quality of the produced tofu. Also, protein changes due to a pilot plant processing method involving high temperature/pressure and commercial rennet as coagulant were assessed. In each soybean variety, glycinin (11S) and beta-conglycinin (7S) as well as 11S/7S ratio significantly changed from beans to tofu. Between varieties, the 11S/7S protein ratio in seed indicated genotypic influence on tofu yield and gel hardness (r = 0.91 and r = 0.99, respectively;p < 0.05). Also, the 11S/7S ratio correlated with soymilk pH (r = 0.89, p < 0.05), leading to a relationship between soymilk pH with protein recovery and yield of tofu (r = 0.94 and r = 0.91, respectively;p < 0.05). The soybean beta'-subunit of 7S protein negatively influenced tofu hardness (r = -0.91, p < 0.05). Seed protein composition and proportion of 7S protein subunits under the applied production method had an important role in defining tofu quality.

Effect of processing method on the structure and properties of HDPE/EAA/LDHs nanocomposites

High-density polyethylene/ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer/layered double hydroxides (LDHs) nanocomposites were prepared by the methods of one-step extrusion and twice extrusion in this paper. The structure and properties of the nanocomposites were also studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG), and the cone calorimeter. The results of XRD, SEM, and TEM analyses demonstrated that the method of twice extrusion gave the LDHs a higher level of exfoliation within the matrix compared with the method of one-step extrusion. The DSC and TG analysis revealed that the crystalline property and the thermal stability of the nanocomposites could be improved by the method of secondary extrusion. The cone calorimeter test showed that the method of secondary extrusion could improve the flame retardant property of the nanocomposites to some degree.

Effects of Season, Variety, and processing method on Ellagic Acid Content in Pomegranate Leaves

Ellagic acid （EA） has aroused great interest worldwide owing to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticarcinogenetic properties. The EA content in pomegranate leaf was measured in this study using high performance liquid chromatography to investigate the effects of season, variety, and processing method on the EA level. The results show that the EA content in 11 varieties of pomegranate from the Zaozhuang region in China range from 1.30 mg · g^-1 to 6.46 mg · g^-1 of dry weight in five consecutive seasons from June to October. An analysis of variance （ANOVA） shows that the EA content is significantly dependent on the season （p〈0.05）. The EA content increases significantly during the growing season to the highest level in September and October. The effect of the leaf variety on the EA content is less significant than the season. The processing methods have different effects on the EA content. Soaking for 24 hours slightly increases the EA content （p〈0.05）. Heating at 80℃ or 100℃ for 1 h after soaking has little influence on the EA content, while slow-fired cooking at high temperature significantly elevates the EA content （p〈0.05）. To improve quality and stability, several parameters such as leaf collection time, slow-fired cooking, and cooking time should be strictly controlled during the processing of pomegranate leaf tea and its extract.

Platycodon grandiflorum root is a traditional medicine and food material rich in triterpenoid saponins. Its major constituent, platycodin D (PD), is known to have various pharmacological properties, but processing methods may influence the PD content. In this study, a fully validated HPLC-ELSD method was developed for the quantification of PD in various states of 73 P. grandiflorum root samples from East Asia, and it exhibited a marked variation of the content. Furthermore, the effects of processing procedures such as peeling and drying temperature on the PD content were investigated using UPLC-ELSD analysis, and as a result, a significant influence of processing methods such as peeling and heating of samples on the content was confirmed. Specifically, unpeeled samples that were dried at 40 A degrees C showed the greatest PD content. The obtained results could facilitate the reliable standardization of P. grandiflorum for precise authentication and efficacious applications.

Effect of processing method on Proximate Composition, Physicochemical Analysis and Mineral Content of Milk-Bush Seed (Thevetia peruviana)

This study examined proximate composition, physicochemical analysis and mineral content of thevetia peruviana seed. The seeds (sun dried, oven dried and air dried) were ground into very fine powder. AOAC 2005 (Standard method) was used to analyse all the parameters used in the study. However, for mineral analysis, AOAC 2005 and Shumaila and Mahpara (Pak J Nutr 8(9):1456-1460, 2009) were used. The result of the proximate composition revealed that the moisture content was (4.59 +/- 0.12, 2.78 +/- 0.12 and 4.21 +/- 0.12), ash content was (2.75 +/- 0.12, 1.73 +/- 0.07 and 1.22 +/- 0.00), crude fibre content was (1.17 +/- 0.00, 1.31 +/- 0.00 and 1.42 +/- 0.20), crude fat content was (66.84 +/- 0.00, 66.67 +/- 0.20 and 42.92 +/- 0.00), crude protein content was (20.53 +/- 0.12, 23.41 +/- 0.12 and 24.72 +/- 0.12), carbohydrate content was (28.04 +/- 0.00, 4.10 +/- 0.25 and 1.59 +/- 0.00) and energy (597.504 +/- 1.79 kcal/kg, 728.766 +/- 1.19 kcal/kg and 725.430 +/- 0.48 kcal/kg) for sun dried, oven dried and air dried seeds respectively. Meanwhile, the results for physicochemical analysis of the oven dried, air dried and sun dried samples were saponification value (mgKOH/g): 88.20 +/- 0.00, 85.40 +/- 0.00 and 77.00 +/- 0.00, peroxide value (meq/kg): 6.00 +/- 1.15, 1.53 +/- 0.12 and 10.60 +/- 0.12, acid value (mgKOH/g): 2.86 +/- 0.06, 1.85 +/- 0.12 and 2.85 +/- 0.06, free fatty acid (% as oleic acid): 1.43 +/- 0.12, 0.92 +/- 0.12 and 0.83 +/- 0.09, density (g/dm(3)): 0.91 +/- 0.04, 0.87 +/- 0.00 and 0.83 +/- 0.01, specific-gravity:0.90 +/- 0.12, 0.90 +/- 0.00 and 0.87 +/- 0.12, viscosity (pal/sec @25 degrees C): 24.99 +/- 0.00, 20.48 +/- 0.09 and 20.66 +/- 0.00, iodine value (meq/kg): 13.51 +/- 0.06, 11.59 +/- 0.12 and 9.79 +/- 0.06. A novel processing method was proposed to enlarge a partial diameter in the middle of a round bar with an experimental size of 10mm. in diameter. To confirm that the processing method is applicable also to shaft with a practical size of 25mm-60mm in diameter for general industrial machine, a large-scale processing machine was developed. Deformation behavior of diameter in a processed part during processing process was made to an expression. The several influences, such as bending angle theta, axial-compressive stress sigma(c), diameters D-0, rotation number N of shaft and curvature radius p, on the increase behavior of diameter were estimated quantitatively.

To carry out combined low and 'high cycle fatigue (CCF) test on turbine blades in a bench environment, it is imperative to simulate the vibration loads of turbine blades in the field. Due to the low vibration stress of turbine blades in the working state, the test time will be very long if the test vibration stress is equal to the real vibration stress in working state. Therefore, an accelerated test will be used when the test life reach the target value (typically 107). During the accelerated test, each blade is tested at two or more times than the real vibration stress. That means some specimens are tested under two vibration stress levels. In' this case, a reasonable data processing method becomes very important. For this reason, a data processing method for the CCF accelerated test is proposed in this paper. These test data are iterated on the basis of S-N curve. Finally, ten real *** are tested in a bench environment, one of them is tested under two vibration stress levels. The test data is processed using the method proposed above to obtain the unaccelerated life data.

The spatially modulated imaging polarimeter is a compact, static and simultaneous polarization imaging system which can collect the interferometric data in real time. By processing the interferometric data, the complete polarization information of the incident light can be demodulated to realize the polarization detection. Based on the device principle of the spatially modulated imaging polarimeter using Savart Plates, the interference pattern processing method in the frequency domain was analyzed. Then, the physical mechanism of the modulation was explained and its corresponding processing method in the spatial domain was analyzed. Finally, in order to evaluate and compare the two methods, the simulation was performed and a prototype of the polarimeter was developed to finish the field experiment. The experimental results show that the spatial processing method can effectively extract the polarization information from the interference pattern. It can identify the artificial targets more clearly from the natural background compared with the frequency-domain processing method.
