The paper deals with the engineering of logistics knowledge for product and process development in Global manufacturing (GM) environment. The logistics knowledge in the GM and peculiarities of new manufacturing environment and factories of the future (FOF) were considered. product and process integrated development using logistics knowledge were emphasized. The logistics knowledge taxonomy versus knowledge ontology for product and process development in SME at the GM environment was created. The frames and cases/scripts for representation logistics knowledge for separate product class or subclass were chosen. The structure of a developed frame for customer requirements was proposed. It describes a collection of attributes that customer requirements in various marketplaces normally possess. Analogically, the structure of the created case/script for integrated product and process design in a specialized type of frame that represents typical scenarios or common sequences of events is presented. The knowledge used for developed frames and cases/scripts consists of three types: 1) product knowledge, 2) process knowledge, 3) process planning knowledge. The available best practice, experience and traditions of an integrated product and process design in different countries and companies have been used. This knowledge was acquired and research was done on the integrated knowledge-based inter-discipline study program on the web site for geographically dispersed organizations. The Internet-based customer-developer-producer server architecture on the web site that uses the created frames and cases/scripts of logistics knowledge for integrated product and process design in GM environment was developed The practical implementation of the created research was confirmed by an appropriate example which is available for industrial and educational application in universities and colleges.

In this paper, the necessity of designing product in concurrent way is proposed by analyzing the product development process. Based on the object-oriented technique, the product and process model is established. According to this model, a frameworks system integrating the technique tool CAD system with PDM is developed and the implementation method is given. The capability of product data management is enhanced, the design efficiency is improved and the design time is shortened to great extent by means of this system.

An intelligent interfacing module of process capability (IIMPC) between product and process design systems in virtual prototyping environment has been developed on the basis of the knowledge acquired at different organizations involved in new product development. The paper considers contradictions both, in product design procedure when seeking its best performance and in the principles of design for assembling (DFA) and design for manufacturability (DFM), whereas, when facilitating the product assembling process, the fabrication process of product parts becomes more complicated This research can help to find the best decision of quality and lean manufacturing among available product and process alternatives. Mathematical formalization of a developed interfacing module is provided and appropriate software is created. The proposed interfacing module is being implemented for the integration of computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided process planning (CAPP) systems. This article seeks to provide more insights on the two-way link between internationalization and innovation by considering total, direct, and reciprocal effects using a nonrecursive structural model. Innovation is defined through product and process development, while internationalization is defined through inward and outward internationalization in both closer and farther markets. The results suggest that these two major sources of growth are linked by different sets of relations, from the investment in product and process innovation to outward internationalization in a closer market, or from inward and outward internationalization in farther markets to the investment in product innovation. As innovation cycles for new technology products accelerate, markets also demand more complex products with a highly individualized design. Particularly, electric cars represent this case and complexity is not only driven by product variants, but also by an increasing proportion and importance of software applications in value creation. However, the reference processes to develop these automotive products were established two decades ago. The reference process which is used by automotive OEMs is the integrated product and process development which bases on the concept of simultaneous engineering. In contrast to conventional cars with a combustion engine, product architectures for electric vehicles can be planned differently with the lithium-ion battery as the central and most expensive component and can be designed with more degrees of freedom. Such a product architecture can also be simplified that complexity is reduced for both, the product and the development process. Changes in terms of product architecture also imply that there are changes in the technological knowledge of the automotive OEM. It must focus on key technologies. Consequently, suppliers have got the chance to advance from suppliers, who produce products on demand, to technological experts, who provide technology platforms. The development process, moreover, has to evolve from typical stage-gate-concepts to a more agile process tailored to suit continuously changing requirements to fulfil the demand for a fast product qualification for series production. So, even shorter innovation cycles and time-to-market periods can be reached. Certainly, this has an effect on financial aspects with the objective to design the organisational process as lean as possible. Finally, the more agile process design serves an optimised ratio between engineering expenses and customer value called Return on Engineering. It is the central paradigm to which process design and methods for product development need to adhere.
