With the maturity of code hardening technology, more and more malicious applications have adopted the reinforcement technology to avoid the detection of anti-virus engines, which brings great challenges for the identification and analysis of malicious code. The paper through an in-depth analysis of common detection avoidance techniques, the technical principle of reinforcement is studied, and a code confusion countermeasure method based on feature comparison is constructed. The method takes the unobfuscated function in the target application as a reference, extracts the target application characteristics by constructing the dependency graph of the program code, and then performs code similarity query in the software gene library system constructed in this paper, and analyzes based on the query result. The code segment is similar or identical to the obfuscated code, and finally restores the confusing variable or string name based on the variable mapping relationship before and after the confusion, thereby achieving effective recovery of the obfuscated code.

This paper presents an experimental evaluation of a program visualisation tool. Computer science students in an introductory object oriented programming course in Java were asked to respond to a series of questions regarding concepts common to the writing and debugging of code at a novice level. Statistical analysis of data collected from this experiment revealed that a diagrammatic representation can significantly improve the novice understanding of program code.

We describe light-weight protocols for selective packet ordering in out-of-order networks that carry memory traffic. The protocols are designed for heterogeneous high-performance systems, in particular, accelerated systems with end-points that have few resources available for interfacing the network. The protocols preserve the semantics of a relaxed memory ordering model as adopted by highly-threaded many-core processors and accelerators. The protocols achieve link-rate performance through the following techniques: (1) Speculative connection setup avoids round-trip delays found in protocols with little knowledge about endpoint resources, (2) target-side ordering avoids round-trip delays found in source-side ordering mechanisms, (3) fine-grained ordering removes dependencies unwarranted by program code avoiding cumulative ordering dependencies caused by coarse-grained ordering, (4) ordering relaxations and optimizations for producer/consumer communication patterns. We describe two ordering protocols that provide (1) strict sequential ordering and (2) relaxed ordering for multi-packet transfers. The protocols impose no restrictions on routing, including multipath routing.

Traditional approaches to transmission system security assessment use deterministic criteria e.g. the application of `N-1' or `N-2' circuit depletion under prescribed heavy system loading conditions. However, such worst-case deterministic approach does not provide explicitly an assessment of the probability of overloading the system, and the likelihood of the outages is treated equally. Recent research has focused on assessment of the line overloading risk index. This paper aims to extend the evaluation of the line overloading risk index through an extensive systematic evaluation of the steady state performance of the Dubai transmission network under hour-by-hour loading levels over a one year period. Load flow analysis is carried out for the intact system and all N-1 and N-2 contingencies. Over the same annual period, the thermal rating of all transmission lines is calculated, based on a detailed set of local meteorological data. Power flow computations are performed using a commercial load flow program and the systematic multiple study execution and data handling was achieved using a developed C++ based programming code. Over the period studied, the line overloading risk index and the probability distributions of line loadings and ratings is determined.

The ability to update or exchange the program code running on sensor nodes is a core requirement in many wireless sensor network scenarios. Such code update mechanisms must take the specific resource limitations of wireless sensor nodes into account since both the transmission and the processing of updates consume considerable amounts of time and energy. We present TinyModules, a novel code update mechanism for TinyOS-based sensor networks whose idea is to divide the program code into a static part and an exchangeable TinyModule. TinyModules is highly configurable with the system developer being able to freely define which parts of the application should be exchangeable. We show that the use of TinyModules can achieve considerable savings in terms of code update size and update time with only negligible additional processing required on the nodes.

The physiological simulation at the tissue and organ level typically involves the handling of partial differential equations (PDEs). Boundary conditions and in cases like pharmacokinetics, distributed parameters add to the complexity of the PDE solution. These factors make most PDE solutions and their corresponding program codes tailored for specific problems. We propose a general approach for handling PDEs in computational models using a replacement scheme for discretization. This method allows for the handling of the different PDE types. The replacement scheme involves substituting all the partial differential terms with the numerical solution equations. Once the model equations are discretized with the numerical solution scheme, instances of the equations are generated to undergo dependency analysis. The result of the dependency analysis is then used to determine the simulation loop structure and generate the program code.

Current software development tools let developers model a software system and generate program code from the models to run the system. However, generating code and installing a non-trivial system induces a time delay between changing the model and executing it that makes rapid model prototyping awkard if not impossible. This paper presents the architecture of a virtual machine for UML that interprets UML models without any intermediate code-generation step. The paper shows how to embed UML in a metalevel architecture so that a key property of model-based systems, the casual connection between models and model instances, is guaranteed. With this architecture, changes to a model have immediate effects on its execution, providing users with rapid feedback about the model's structure and behavior. This approach supports model innovation better than today's code-generation approaches.

There is still a gap between businesses and their supporting software. Even when an enterprise architecture is defined for a given business, its software is often not aligned to it. If it is reflected in the software at all, then its representation there is mostly in program code rather than models, which makes it difficult to adapt the software. While BPMN provides the possibility to specify business processes in models, executing them with currently available engines does not satisfy the level of usability of traditionally developed software, due to missing context information on business arte facts and context switches for each isolated task execution. We propose a software architecture including a BPMN 2.0 engine and a model of business artefacts for aligning the architectures of the business and its supporting software. It shows how business processes (defined in BPMN) can be enriched at their enactment with additional artefact information. It is consistently presented to the user (in a graphical user interface) based on configuration information attached to business processes or tasks in the software application. It relates the process model with business arte-facts in the software much as in an enterprise architecture.
