This retrospective descriptive study of 73 patients who died in St. Peter's Hospital examines and contrasts the patient profile and referral sources of a palliative care unit in a chronic care hospital over two six-month periods during 1994 and 1995. Shortened length of stay (83.8 and 43.2 days respectively), documentation issues, CPR practices (CPR was desired by seven patients up to the time of death), and lack of referrals from long-term care facilities have led St. Peter's Hospital to ask further questions of its palliative care program, e.g. given the lack of referrals from longterm care facilities, how is palliative care being managed in this sector? In Ontario, palliative care has been placed under the domain of chronic care and program development depends in part on the knowledge of the population it serves. This study is a first step.

Because foreign language teacher candidates in Mississippi are required to pass the Praxis II: World Language Test for licensure in French, German, and Spanish, faculty at the institution under consideration sought to better understand their candidates' readiness for this assessment experience. This article describes how faculty modified students' learning experiences, ultimately leading students to success on the Praxis II: World Language Test by emphasizing the test requirements, clarifying proficiency expectations with students, altering instructional practices, strengthening the curriculum, developing new courses, and creating new K-12 partnerships. Challenges related to program development are also discussed.

School IEP team members need to understand the importance of the procedural and substantive requirements of the IEP, have an awareness of the five serious substantive errors that IEP teams make, and know how to avoid errors. This paper deals with the methodology for online study program development which was constructed to meet the needs of students, teachers and the institution. The proposed methodology consists of four phases: 1.) Problem definition, 2.) Strategic decision making, 3.) Implementation, 4.) Evaluation. In the first phase, situation analysis is performed and central problem is defined. Strategic decision making phase includes making a decision on several issues: choice of learning strategies, decision on delivery formats, choice of appropriate design, etc. In this phase, needs, target and task analysis must be performed. Also, instructional, delivery and evaluation strategy must be created. It is also recommended to perform TOWS and cost benefit analysis. In the implementation phase an online study program is prepared, based on the strategies created in the previous phase, and delivered to students. The fourth phase involves evaluation of student reactions, achievement of objectives and impact of the project on the institution. In addition, we present the case study of developing ePITUP online study at Faculty of Organization and Informatics. The purpose of the paper is to provide a good insight into methodology for online study program development. It will provide an effective guide for developing online courses and establishing an online study program.

After several years of planning, The SART at Immanuel St, Joseph's - Mayo Health Systems became a reality in August 1997. The nurses who were trained for this program were already providing 24-hour coverage in the emergency department for psychiatric emergencies and patients with chemical dependency. The SANE responsibilities were added to their on-call duties. Five nurses participated in a 40-hour training program by SANE specialists and experts in the local community. As expected, nurses were apprehensive as they conducted their first examinations;however, all has gone well. Over time, the providers' and clients' satisfaction with the program has improved. The examination is completed in less time, and the person assaulted does not have to wait as long for the SANE to arrive. Members of law enforcement and the prosecutor's office are especially pleased with the quality of evidence collected and the procedures followed to maintain chain of evidence so the evidence obtained can be used in prosecution. The program has resulted in kind and compassionate care for persons who have been sexually assaulted. The providers are continuing to meet monthly as an interdisciplinary, interagency team and are addressing concerns as they arise. Members of the SART are developing a good working relationship. Everyone involved agrees that developing this program has been a worthwhile effort and that the hospital is providing a valued service for the community.
