Invented by Adobe Systems, adobe portable document format (PDF) is a publicly available specification used by standards bodies around the world for more secure, reliable electronic document distribution and exchange. Documents in the PDF format can be viewed, navigated, and printed from any computer, regardless of the fonts or software programs used to create the original file. Furthermore, Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG), an international assembly of industry associations and suppliers from across Europe and the United States, is working to maximize the PDF opportunity for package designers and printers even further.
