The intensive development of information technologies and the need to process big information and data lead to elaboration of new technologies in the hardware design. One of the important aspects here is to increase the information capacity of gates and interconnections that is possible by application of non-binary elements. Employing non-binary (Many-Valued) cells as computing and memory units enables to pack unprecedented high-density information. In turn, use of non-binary units calls for development of new methods in logic design. These methods should be based on a non-binary logic and application of Multiple-Valued logic in design of non-binary logical circuits and networks. In this paper, a new technique of the programmable logic Array design based on Many-Valued units is considered. This technique is based on the use of generalised Reed-Muller expansion of Multi-Valued logic function representation.

With the development of smart vehicles and computation-intensive vehicular applications, it is a challenge to maintain high performance for vehicles with scarce local computational resources. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is a computing paradigm with high potential to improve vehicular services by offloading computation-intensive tasks to the MEC servers. However, as the computational resources of MEC servers are limited, parking lots (PLs) having abundant idle computational resources should be utilized. We introduce a new computing paradigm, named by Vehicular Parked-Edge Computing (VPEC). We formulate a three-stage contract-stackelberg offloading incentive mechanism to describe this problem. The PLs are classified into different types according to their idle computational resources, and parking lot agent (PLA) offers different contracts to different types of PLs. The optimal problem is designed to maximize the utilities of vehicles, operator and PLA. We use backward induction method to solve this three-stage problem, and give the closed-form expressions of the optimal strategies for each stage. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed incentive mechanism and reveal the changing trend of optimal strategies in each stage when traffic density changes.

The first flight of NASA's new exploration-class launch vehicle, the Space Launch System (SLS), will test a myriad of systems designed to enable the next generation of deep space human spaceflight, and launch from Kennedy Space Center no earlier than December 2019. The initial Block 1 configuration for Exploration Mission 1 (EM-1) will be capable of lofting at least 70 metric tons (t) of payload and send the Orion crew vehicle into a distant retrograde lunar orbit, paving the way for future crew missions to cislunar space and eventually Mars. A Block 1B version of SLS will lift at least 34 t to trans-lunar injection (TLI) in its crew configuration and at least 37 t to TLI in its cargo configuration no earlier than 2024. For Mars-class payloads, larger fairings and payload adapters for the Block 2 cargo vehicle are under consideration. For missions beyond the Earth-Moon system, SLS offers greater characteristic energy (C3) than any other launch vehicle, enabling shorter transit times or heavier payloads with more robust science packages for missions to the outer solar system. Indeed, the unmatched combination of thrust, payload volume and departure energy that SLS provides opens new opportunities for human and robotic exploration of deep space. To support the delivery of infrastructure on all of these flights, a family of SLS Payload Adapters (PLA) is being developed to provide ELV class (1575-mm, 2624-mm, 4394-mm) and larger spacecraft/payload interfaces for both crewed (Orion) and cargo (fairing) missions. These PLAs also provide the potential of accommodating various configurations of 6U, 12U and 27U Secondary Payloads (SPL). Work on demonstrating the manufacturing of these 8.4-m diameter composite structures is already in progress at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, which manages the SLS Program. The need for alternatives for petrochemical circuit board materials is increasing annually. This paper deals with the study of ternary PLA composites, containing cellulose acetate (CA) and zinc pyrophosphate (ZnPP), the comparison to previous binary PLA composites and their usability as wiring substrates. For this purpose, principles of assembly and connection technologies are applied to the PLA composite and evaluated. The polymer thick-film technology and the printed circuit technology are used as principles of the assembly and connection technology for the realization of conductive structures. Furthermore, the assembly of components on copper conductive bonding and the mechanical strength of the joints was tested. Thus, an overview of the applicability of PLA composites as alternative circuit board materials as well as the advantages and disadvantages can be shown.

Conventional X-ray imaging is based on the attenuation of X-rays and the technique provides sufficient contrast when the difference between attenuation coefficients of neighboring structures is sufficient. A promising imaging possibility on a mu CT is the use of phase information of an Xray beam to generate an image of the sample. This is known as phase-contrast imaging. Propagation-based phase imaging sets the least amount of requirements on the imaging setup lateral coherence for the X-ray source and a movable detector and source. The Zeiss Xradia MicroXCT-400 at our laboratory provides this possibility. Therefore, the phase-contrast imaging protocol, which provides an edge-enhancement effect, on the mu CT device was optimized using thin polylactic acid fibers in order to enhance the visibility of low density samples. The optimization consisted of source and detector distance variation measurements. To demonstrate the contrast enhancement results, the optimization was applied to two types of collagen samples embedded in air, ethanol, and water. The results showed enhanced contrast for the edge-enhanced phase-contrast images compared to absorption images. Most importantly, the results indicated that the source does not need to placed at the negative limit to obtain useful phase information. Additionally, the visibility increases with increasing sample-to-detector distance. Finally, significantly enhanced contrast was obtained for the collagen sample embedded in water using phase-imaging techniques. The technique is limited due to the focal spot size and voltage of the X-ray source. The phase-imaging technique has the possibility to enhance contrast of low density samples and to reveal structures that cannot be seen using other imaging techniques.

Tissue engineering is the use of a combination of cells, biomaterials and appropriate signals to repair or improve the functions of damaged tissues. Our group is exploiting various approaches to effectively encapsulate multiple growth factors in polymeric scaffolds for tissue engineering and wound healing applications. In this report, some of the exciting results from our most recent and ongoing projects are outlined with a focus on the use of connective tissue growth factor (CTGF). CTGF is a secreted protein with major roles in angiogenesis, chondrogenesis, osteogenesis and tissue repair. CTGF can play a major role in tissue regeneration by enhancing cell proliferation and promoting cell migration. CTGF was incorporated to electrospun polymeric fibers to provide sustained release. Experimental results demonstrated the ability of scaffolds incorporated with CTGF to promote cell proliferation and cell migration. This study shows the application potential of the developed scaffolds in various tissue engineering applications.

A switchable multi-antenna architecture for lens-assisted beamsteering in the Ka-band region allocated for 5G communications (24-30 GHz) is proposed. The radiating elements are bow-tie antennas mounted with a 3D printed high-permittivity dielectric lens (epsilon(r) = 10). A 5-element array is simulated showing switchable 30 degrees beam steering over a 120 degrees sector with 19 dB maximum gain. Single antenna measurements of a scaled prototype with a Polylactic Acid (PLA) lens (epsilon(r) = 2.7) show gains around 11 dB, in agreement with projected performances.

Pulsed Laser Ablation (PLA) has been demonstrated to be suitable for the generation of thin layers consisting of micrometer- and submicrometer-sized particles from a wide range of materials [1]. In case of drug particles with defined molecular and crystal structure, it is critical to preserve their characteristic structure during micronization in order to keep their pharmacological effects. Therefore PLA could be a non-conventional approach in drug formulation, as a simple and rapid grinding method. The medical applicability of the drugs produced by PLA strongly depends on their size. For example the best uptake of the poorly water-soluble oral and parenteral drugs can be achieved in the form of micro — or nanoparticles. With increased specific surface area the dissolution rate and/or the permeability could be improved, which could be useful by the traditional per os dosage forms. In the case of alternative administration such as intranasal and pulmonary application, decreased size is a determined factor also [2].

Different mechanisms are triggered when tissue is exposed to a biomaterial. The success of the biomaterial targeted process, like the release of chemicals, promoted angiogenesis, tissue regeneration, etc. depends on its integration in the tissue [1]. Studying this interaction in vivo requires the ability to image simultaneously deep immersed proteins and biomaterials with high resolution and low damage. Several methods offer solutions but only multiphoton microscopy (MM) has the ability to image with high resolution deep inside the sample. Why is not MM more extensively applied as a platform for investigating biomaterial integration in vivo? The high cost of the typical source for multiphoton microscopy is a clear limitation. Furthermore, imaging several channels simultaneously becomes out of reach for most of the labs.

we report on the experimental realization of digital holography at 140 GHz using terahertz detectors based on field-effect transistors. We demonstrate that the hologram signal can be efficiently recorded by the FET detector at room temperature. The digital reconstructions of amplitude and phase objects are presented. Owing to the possibility for FET array integration and massive production, potential towards fast scan nondestructive testing application is discussed.
