The active components of a primary pyrogenic liver abscess (PLA) Klebsiella pneumoniae in stimulating cytokine expression in macrophages are still unclear. The capsular polysaccharide (CPS) of PLA K. pneumoniae is important in determining clinical manifestations, and we have shown that it consists of repeating units of the trisaccharide (-> 3)-beta-D-Glc-(1 -> 4)-[2,3-(S)-pyruvate]-beta-D-GlcA-(1 -> 4)-alpha-L-Fuc-(1 ->) and has the unusual feature of extensive pyruvation of glucuronic acid and acetylation of C-2-OH or C-3-OH of fucose. We demonstrated that PLAK. pneumoniae CPS induces secretion of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) by macrophages through Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and that this effect was lost when pyruvation and O-acetylation were chemically destroyed. Furthermore, expression of TNF-alpha and IL-6 in PLA K. pneumoniae CPS-stimulated macrophages was shown to be regulated by the TLR4/ROS/PKC-delta/NF-kappa B, TLR4/PI3-kinase/AKT/NF-kappa B, and TLR4/MAPK signaling pathways.

The yield of IC's has always been crucial to the commercial success of their manufacture. One practical solution to the problem of low IC yield is fault-tolerant design. A recently proposed fault-diagnosable and repairable programmable logic array (PLA) design that allows detecting, locating, and repairing faults has led to a significant yield improvement. In this paper, a novel defect-tolerant design of PLA's with folding techniques is presented to reduce the die size, so as to further improve chip yield. Results show that the proposed design achieves full diagnosability of stuck-at, bridging, and crosspoint faults.

Technology mapping for TLU FPGA's based on decomposition of binary decision diagrams

This paper proposes an efficient algorithm for technology mapping targeting table look-up (TLU) blocks, It is capable of minimizing either the number of TLU's used or the depth of the produced circuit. Our approach consists of two steps, First a network of super nodes, is created, Next a Boolean function of each super node with an appropriate don't care set is decomposed into a network of TLU's, To minimize the circuit's depth, several rules are applied on the critical portion of the mapped circuit.

Currently, symbolic cover minimization is computed using multiple-valued-logic minimization. This problem, however, is computationally intractable, so less accurate heuristics are used. An alternative approach to computationally intractable problems is to reduce their generality so that the simpler problem has a tractable solution. Accordingly, a deterministic approach for the symbolic cover minimization problem for fully input/output (I/O) specified finite state machines (FSMs) is presented. A uniqueness theorem for a hierarchical extension of FSMs is proved, and the theorem is used to derive the proposed technique.< >

Many methods of shedding load during peak hours of operation have been utilized for efficient use of generation during peak periods. These methods, however, are usually non-dynamic, meaning that power for commercial, industrial, or residential appliances are simply turned on or off as needed. As load management customers increase, a variety of load shedding criteria emerges. Some commercial customers in the load management program demand dynamic or routine based power control to ensure the safety of their large equipment such as refrigeration units. The following is a proposal of one such method to accommodate this need.

Substrate crosstalk suppression capability of silicon-on-insulator substrates with buried ground planes (GPSOI)

Experimental s(21) transmission crosstalk studies have been conducted on silicon-on-insulator substrates with buried ground planes (GPSOI's) where a 2 Omega per square metal-silicide buried ground plane existed between a 15 Omega-cm p-type silicon substrate and a 1 mu m thick buried CVD oxide layer. Locally grounded transmission test structures fabricated on GPSOI were found to exhibit 20 dB increased crosstalk suppression compared to published data for high resistivity (200 Omega-cm) SOI substrates incorporating capacitive guard rings over a frequency range from 500 MHz to 50 GHz, This represents an order of magnitude improvement in crosstalk power suppression capability compared to existing state-of-the-art suppression techniques in silicon substrates.

A Generalizable Model-and-Data Driven Approach for Open-Set RFF Authentication

Radio-frequency fingerprints (RFFs) are promising solutions for realizing low-cost physical layer authentication. Machine learning-based methods have been proposed for RFF extraction and discrimination. However, most existing methods are designed for the closed-set scenario where the set of devices is remains unchanged. These methods cannot be generalized to the RFF discrimination of unknown devices. To enable the discrimination of RFF from both known and unknown devices, we propose a new end-to-end deep learning framework for extracting RFFs from raw received signals. The proposed framework comprises a novel preprocessing module, called neural synchronization (NS), which incorporates the data-driven learning with signal processing priors as an inductive bias from communication-model based processing. Compared to traditional carrier synchronization techniques, which are static, this module estimates offsets by two learnable deep neural networks jointly trained by the RFF extractor. Additionally, a hypersphere representation is proposed to further improve the discrimination of RFF. Theoretical analysis shows that such a data-and-model framework can better optimize the mutual information between device identity and the RFF, which naturally leads to better performance. Experimental results verify that the proposed RFF significantly outperforms purely data-driven DNN-design and existing handcrafted RFF methods in terms of both discrimination and network generalizability.

3-D Printed Swastika-Shaped Ultrabroadband Water-Based Microwave Absorber

In this letter, a swastika-shaped ultrabroadband metamaterials absorber is proposed. The designed absorber can be fabricated with the polylactic acid by 3-D printing, and packaged after filling with water. The absorber can achieve greater than 90% absorption in the frequency band of 9.3-49.0 GHz, with a relative bandwidth of 136%, which has been well demonstrated in the microwave experiment. Moreover, it also performs well at wide angles of incidence and the absorption efficiency has almost no obvious changes over the water temperature range of 0 degrees C-100 degrees C. The absorber proposed in this letter benefits from ultrawideband absorption, low cost and environment-friendly materials, it can be applied in the fields of electromagnetic (EM) stealth and EM energy harvesting.

Positron lifetime analysis from generalized constrained least-squares technique

The generalized least-squares method with non-negativity constraint is developed to analyze positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) spectra to obtain lifetimes and intensities. The method for obtaining the instrumental function from a single-component PAL spectrum is demonstrated. The present code is tested using computer simulated lifetime data.

Toward a Metal-Free Contact Based on Multilayer Epitaxial Graphene on 4H-SiC

We report on a promising approach to realize bifacial silicon carbide (SiC) based ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors with no metallic electrodes. The ohmic contact regions, consisting of a few conductive carbon-rich layers, while maintaining the necessary UV sensitivity for the photodetector's operation, are directly realized using a nanosecond-pulsed excimer laser. By combining structural, optical, and electrical characterization, we demonstrate how this treatment allows the formation of ohmic contacts, on both front and rear side, using fluence higher than 1.6 J/cm(2) and 3.2 J/cm(2), respectively.
