To solve the "big data" problems that are hindered by the Von Neumann bottleneck and semiconductor device scaling limitation, a new efficient in-memory computing architecture based on crossbar array is developed. The corresponding basic operation principles and design rules are proposed and verified using emerging nonvolatile devices such as very low-power resistive random access memory (RRAM). To prove the computing architecture, we demonstrate a parallel 1-bit full adder (FA) both by experiment and simulation. A 4-bit multiplier (Mult.) is further obtained by a programed 2-bit Mult. and 2-bit FA.

The technology roadmapping field has evolved over time from the first and second generation technology roadmaps to the current third generation roadmaps. As a strategy and policy formulation tool, technology roadmaps proved to be useful in facilitating learning and consensus across the firm or across the industry. Similarly, technology roadmaps have been used as a process to operationalise the strategies by mapping the details of future research and development programs, technological capability development programs and manufacturing capability development initiatives. Practitioners and scholars alike are seeking new ways on integration of this technology market planning tool with other business processes while on the other hand, there are efforts for their customisation according to the needs of managers or policy makers. This paper maps trends in technology roadmapping and technology roadmap literature through an analysis of life cycle pattern on scientific contributions from this field. A gap exists for quantitative tracking of evolutionary patterns in terms of the three technology roadmapping generations.

Software Product Lines (SPLs) are families of related software systems developed for specific market segments or domains. Commonly, SPLs emerge from sets of existing variants when their individual maintenance becomes infeasible. However, current approaches for SPL migration do not support design models, are partially automated, or do not reflect constraints from SPL domains. To tackle these limitations, the goal of this doctoral research plan is to propose an automated approach to the SPL migration process at the design level. This approach consists of three phases: detection, analysis and transformation. It uses as input the class diagrams and lists of features for each system variant, and relies on search-based algorithms to create a product line architecture that best captures the variability present in the variants. Our expected contribution is to support the adoption of SPL practices in companies that face the scenario of migrating variants to SPLs.

We demonstrate a novel vertical channel 3D NAND Flash architecture - SGVC. SGVC device is a single-gate, flat-channel TFT charge-trapping device with ultra-thin body. Our novel array decoding method enables a tight-pitch (25nm HP) metal BL design to fulfill the large page size (16KB for one plane) for high-performance NAND product. The SGVC flat cell possesses excellent P/E window of ~10V, small X/Y/Z adjacent-cell interferences, good self-boosting inhibit, and >10K P/E cycling endurance. Due to the advantage of flat cell that is insensitive to etching CD, SGVC device is tolerant to the non-ideal vertical etching and has shown excellent device uniformity from layer to layer. In sharp contract to GAA VC, SGVC suffers no penalty from field-enhancement effect, thus has shown very robust read-disturb immunity against long-term gate stressing. Due to (1) two physical bits per X-Y cell footprint, and (2) efficient array design with minimal overhead, SGVC architecture has 2 to 4 times memory density than GAA VC 3D NAND at the same stacking layer number.

Based on a comparison of manufacturing and biological organism systems, we have proposed the concept of an organic manufacturing system. To eliminate promptly uncertain disturbances during the organic manufacturing system's operation, an immune monitoring model of an organic manufacturing system, analogous to a biological immune system mechanism is proposed. The implementation of immune recognition, assessment, learning, memory and regulation in response to abnormal disturbance factors is investigated. The system's grey assessment model based on an analytic hierarchy is carefully analyzed, and the effectiveness of the system state assessment method is verified experimentally through simulation.

In this paper, the Polyjet technology was applied to build high-Q X-band resonators and low loss filters for the first time. As one of state-of-the-art 3-D printing technologies, the Polyjet technique produces RF models with finest resolution and outstanding surface finish in a clean, fast and affordable way. The measured resonator with 0.3% frequency shift yielded a quality factor of 214 at 10.26 GHz. A Vertically stacked two-cavity bandpass filter with an insertion loss of 2.1 dB and 5.1% bandwidth (BW) was realized successfully. The dimensional tolerance of this process was found to be less than 0.5%. The well matched performance of the resonator and the filter, as well as the fine feature size indicate that the Polyjet process is suitable for the implementation of low loss and low cost RF devices.

Much effort has been invested in recent years in the problem of detecting similarity in time series. Most work focuses on the identification of exact matches through point-by-point comparisons, although in many real-world problems recurring patterns match each other only approximately. We introduce a new approach for identifying patterns in time series, which evaluates the similarity by comparing the overall structure of candidate sequences instead of focusing on the local shapes of the sequence and propose a new distance measure ABC (Area Between Curves) that is used to achieve this goal. The approach is based on a data-driven linear approximation method that is intuitive, offers a high compression ratio and adapts to the overall shape of the sequence. The similarity of candidate sequences is quantified by means of the novel distance measure, applied directly to the linear approximation of the time series. Our evaluations performed on multiple data sets show that our proposed technique outperforms similarity search approaches based on the commonly referenced Euclidean Distance in the majority of cases. The most significant improvements are obtained when applying our method to domains and data sets where matching sequences are indeed primarily determined based on the similarity of their higher-level structures.
