Heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) drives commonly utilize variable speed control to maximize efficiency and increasingly power factor correction (PFC) stage in the rectifier design to comply with regulations, such as IEC 61000-3-2, which limit the input current harmonics. Cycle by cycle control is desired for both the PFC stage and motor inverter. Closed loop control of these stages consumes the entire bandwidth available on a typical microcontroller leaving no bandwidth to implement fault diagnostics, housekeeping and host functions. This paper presents design of motor control and PFC using a single low cost microcontroller (MCU-TI TMS320F2805x) with embedded analog subsystem consisting of programmable gate arrays (PGA) to sense the shunt inverter currents, windowed comparators and DACs for programmable protection levels;and small footprint control law accelerator (CLA) to double the bandwidth. The integrated design reduces the number of components, reducing board size and build cost and enables on the fly changes which brings enhanced control possibilities for a cost sensitive market without compromising on cost.

Neuroengineering related interventions to small animals always carry the high risk of missled procedures, frequently causing premature death of the animal. In this paper the manufacturing process to build a physical rat skull and brain model for educational use is presented. Out of MRI images a rat brain was segmented to build a negative mould. This form was used to cast an agarose rat brain. For an accompanying rat neurocranium model, CT images were rendered to a surface mesh and printed in 3D out of PLA. The presented workflow results in a high detailed rat skull and rat brain.

This paper presents a programmable logic array (PLA) layered structure composed of single-electron tunneling transistor (SET) devices. In this array bits of information are represented by the presence or absence of single electrons at conducting islands. A layer in the array is composed of a SET summing-inverter cell replicated for performing a programmable Boolean operation of its inputs. A number of layers are added on to implement the logic function. We confirm the correct and stable operation of the PLA matrix using a well-known single-electron circuit simulator based on Monte Carlo technique. We then discuss challenges facing SETs and end with conclusions.

Biobased polymers have been introduced for some applications of electrical, electric, and office appliances to reduce both petroleum resource exhaustion and C[***.2] emissions. (1) Although polylactic acid (PLA), as one typical biobased polymer, is commercially available at present, it is necessary to improve its thermal resistance and impact strength, as its fracture mode is brittle, and the crystallization speed of PLA is very low. (2) A PLA and PC alloy is now commercialized with a PLA content of 30 wt% or less for parts in electrical, electric, and office appliances, as a substitute of existing PC and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) alloy petroleum-based polymers in Japan.

This paper presents a multi-agent simulation that demonstrates personal knowledge management (PKM) processes among knowledge workers based on a PKM model. Two scenarios are simulated: the mediation of Knowledge Seeker-Knowledge Expert and Knowledge Seeker-Knowledge Collaborator tasks that are animated in an agent-oriented development platform. The results of the simulation validate the PKM model at agent-mediation level.

Human Gait recognition is one of the most promising research areas at the moment. Gait is the style or manner of walking on foot. Gait recognition aims to identify individuals by the manner in which they walk. Existing Gait representations which capture both motion and appearance information are sensitive to changes in various covariate conditions such as carrying and clothing. In this paper, we propose a novel temporal representation of Gait using Pal and Pal Entropy (GPPE) for each cycle of the silhouettes. The Principal component analysis is applied to each of the features extracted to create a feature matrix. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used for training and testing of individuals by the proposed method. Extensive experiments on the Treadmill dataset and the CASIA datasets A, B, C have been carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed representation of Gait.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of the MOSCA-CFAR (Mean of OS and CA-CFAR), the SOSCA-CFAR (Smallest of OS and CA-CFAR) and the OSCAGO-CFAR (OS and CA-CFAR Greatest Of) detectors in homogeneous and non-homogeneous environments. The non-homogeneity is modelled by the presence of interfering targets in the reference window. In the presence of interfering targets in both windows the performances of these detectors degrade seriously. To overcome this problem we propose the GSOSCA-CFAR (Generalized Smallest of OS and CA-CFAR). Compared to the OS-CFAR, this detector performs better especially when the number of interfering is high.

Modularization army troop is the complex system composed of its integrated combat forces based on system theory. This paper discussed the integrated combat forces constitutions of the modularization army troop and based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) method, proposed the integrated combat forces coordinating degree models. Using the models, the one-way state coordinating degree and dynamic coordinating degree of the two sub modules were researched, and on the basis of this, the whole coordinating degree was calculated to evaluate the whole coordinating development results of the modularization army troop among the operation processes. From this, the evaluation to the integrated combat forces of army tactics modules has been solved comparatively and also supplied the scientific method for quickly coordinating group of the modularization army troop under the condition of operation.

The data mining techniques can be successfully used for the classification of patients suffering from diabetes. The classification can be done to find out categories such as not detected, initial stage, middle stage and advanced stage of diabetes. This study has undertaken only two class based classification of positive (diabetes detected) and negative (diabetes not detected) class. To perform the classification using data mining techniques, the input data are used from Pima Indian Diabetes (PID) sample data sets which is available as an open source. Three classification techniques of Radial Basis Function (RBF), Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Multi Level Counter Propagation Network (MLCPN) are used to classify diabetes cased. The MLCPN functions in two phases, the first phase is Kohonen Self Organizing Map (KSOM) and second phase is Grossberg learning. Both the methods together make hybrid approach. Among the models analysed, the MLCPN produced better accuracy and efficiency. It was faster and an accuracy rate was approximately 97%. The simulation tests were performed using Weka software tool. A total of 519 datasets were used for training the models and as many remaining dataset were used for testing. Simulation results were on the lines of expectation with good accuracy.

Transformation of PSTN to NGN is a challenging goal for many legacy telecom operators. A smooth migration for PSTN will be an evolutionary process. It is expected that a new generation PSTN can extend the range of new services. Chunghwa Telecom is currently initiating an NGN_CN development which is part of NGN project for PSTN migration. In this paper, the key network technologies for PSTN migration are studied and NGN_CN network architecture is depicted. A three-stage PSTN migration process is proposed for legacy PSTN switch equipment replacement. The key routing issues for network migration are identified and a centralized routing architecture across service domains is proposed. An innovative service convergence architecture which integrates NGN_CN, Internet, and smart mobile devices is implemented for enhancing future PSTN services.
