The paper deals with macroscopic modeling of the traffic flow in the programmable logic controllerbased Tunnel Simulator. All relevant devices of the tunnel technological equipment are simulated by the software inside the programmable logic controller. Simulator offers many HMI/SCADA graphical screens to visualize the state of each subsystem of the technological equipment. Additional graphical screen has been created to add the traffic flow modeling functionality. Traffic flow model outputs (intensity, speed and density) are planned to be used as inputs for other models in the Tunnel Simulator e.g. Evacuation time estimation, Air flow speed modeling inside the tunnel tube.

The paper presents the synthesis and implementation algorithms of reconfigurable logiccontroller (RLC) implemented in a FPGA. In opposite to software centric PLCs, the RLC utilize massively parallel hardware execution of control algorithms. The specific hardware implementation significantly reduces the throughput time. The input program is described by the SFC given according to IEC61131-3 standard. An original intermediate representation with use of data flow graph has been developed for program representation and synthesis purposes. The algorithm of creating graph representation maintains sequential dependencies of processing and reveals parallel tasks. Developed method of scheduling and mapping is dedicated for implementation in LUT based FPGA devices. There are considered direct mapping based on greedy approach and optimized methods that are FPGA architecture aware. The paper is concluded with exemplary implementation comparison.

A synchrotron light facility, Taiwan Photon Source (TPS), is being constructed at the campus of the NSRRC (National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center). In order to prevent damage to accelerator components induced by various events, design of the global machine protection system (MPS) is on-going. The MPS collects interlock signals and beam dump request from various subsystem, perform decision, transmit dump beam request to RF system. The MPS equipments are distributed on 24 CIAs (Control Instrumentation Areas) include a main PLC (programmable logic controller) with remote I/Os, event receiver, transient capture module responsible for slow-interlock and fast-interlock, sequence events capture. Special input/output patch boards are designed for signal type conversion which is easily connectivity and trouble shooting. To protect the TPS accelerator equipments, the MPS should collect urgent beam dump requests to beam abort devices (most probably is RF system) within short and deterministic latency time (e.g. less than 10 msec). The PLC based system will be used as a slow MPS which can delivery less than 8 msec reaction time. The fast MPS will dependent on event based timing system to deliver response time less than 5 mu sec. Trigger signal for postmortem will also be distributed by the fast MPS. To ensure alive of the system, several self-diagnostics mechanisms include heartbeat and transient capture will be implemented. The MPS architecture, plans and implementation were presented in this report.

This paper describes design and experience in using remote workplace for education in the field of energy efficient drive technologies. Presented workplace is a three level load elevator with 5 kW of power, controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC) and realized within Integrated Service Real-time Remote Network CEyeClon. Together with suitable e-learning material this workplace presents an integral solution for distance education in the addressed field. By enrolling into the training the learners: (1) learn theoretical concepts of energy efficient drive technologies;(2) gain practical experience with energy recuperation concept;and (3) gain practice in programming and operating of newest industrial equipment. The integral solution was tested with two target groups: (1) students and (2) over 200 professionals from electro-mechanical industry from whole Europe which were involved in extensive international distance training from mechatronics and alternative technology. The developed solution is now used for regular education and for in-house training in a large European company.

The present ventilating system has many shortcomings, such as less automation and numerous data cannot be measured and recorded timely. In this paper, the automatic monitor and control ventilating system of supercavitation water-tunnel was developed using configuration software and PLC. All parameters can be measured, recorded and displayed automatically via using of the system. It has many advantages such as higher automation, convenience, and easy maintenance.
