A computer-PLC (programmable logic controller) control solution was proposed for the artificial trough rainfall simulator. The rainfall process with continuous changing intensities was simulated automatically with the control strategy. Frequency-tunable pulse signal of specified duty ratio was generated precisely using pulse module of PLC to drive nozzles oscillating at required frequency. Thus, arbitrary rainfall intensities within the output range of the simulator were achieved. Control configuration for trough rainfall simulator was built using Forcecontrol man-machine software. Parameters settings and rainfall intensities tracking during the rainfall simulation were realized. Simultaneously, a rainfall simulator performance evaluation procedure was performed based on a single nozzle rainfall test with six selected working states. A criterion of dynamic rainfall uniformity was proposed to estimate the performance of a rainfall simulator during the entire rainfall simulation. A Locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (LOESS) and weighted averaging approach was adopted in the evaluation procedure.

This study aimed at planning, building and running an automatic solar distiller, whose function is to direct the mirror still in the position that there is a maximum brightness of the capture of the sunlight. The distiller was designed in the style of a cylindrical parabolic solar concentrator developed sheet steel, coated mirrors, modeled on a parabolic structure, with a focus along the copper tube functioning as absorber. In the parameters for the automation of the project were considered the elements of machinery, power electronics and industrial instrumentation. The results for the automation of the solar distiller, satisfied the proposed project, as it was possible to obtain the data necessary to perform the mapping and displacement of the distiller in the direction of sunlight.

Hence, the reliability and correctness of PLC programs are so important that formal methods are required to guarantee them. An algorithm is proposed to translate a Ladder Diagram (LD) to an ordinary Petri net (PN) system. Consequently, the PN theory can be used to simulate and analyze LD programs to verify whether PLC systems are live, reversible, and free of race and deadlocks.

The paper presents some program examples written and tested to show possibilities of construction of CPUs for PLCs build based on FPGA development platform. Presented unit is optimised for minimum response and throughput time. The constructions are based on bit-word structures of CPU and two types of data (condition) exchange methods: with acknowledge and without acknowledge - in both cases control data are passed through the set of flip-flops. Third unit is built to compare with these two. This unit is simple one processor unit which can execute both - binary and numerical operations. The experiments shown high performances of elaborated CPUs.

This paper presents some aspects regarding the possibility of combining microcontroller and programmable logic controller (PLC) for robot control. The RPP robot is designed and manufactured within the Faculty of Engineering from "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, as a patent: BRAT TELESCOPIC, Nr. 112418 B1, ***.6 B 25 J 18/02, from 17.02.1997. Classical systems for programming and control of industrial robot are based on numerical control equipment, developed around a PC. programmable logic controllers (PLC) haves proven to be viable alternatives to driving machine tools, industrial systems and Robots. Microcontrollers as computers offer advantage due to programmable inputs and outputs ports. The application of a microcontroller and PLC in control of a robot is presented in this paper.
