Therefore, we propose a methodology where temporal logic is used to find the misconfigurations in the subsequent rules. Our framework is capable of finding the codes in PLC that are responsible for abnormal behavior in PLC. Having accomplished that, an automated approach to instrument the code. We run our methodology on some real world PLC program applications and found that our approach can eradicate a good number of abnormal behaviors successfully.

By the increasing production piston motor vehicle manufacturing industry, often experienced problems especially on old machines. Among them is the Out Diameter Finish (ODF) machine contained in the machining process. The Out Diameter Finish machine is used to determine the grade of the piston. Grade is the outer diameter of the piston grouping based on predetermined tolerance standards of the Out Diameter Finish machine at each production line. The authors conducted research related to the design of control systems the out diameter finish machine to reduce the occurrence of machine downtime, and facilitate engineer to fix the problem if it occurs on the machine. The design of the control system covering the entire Out Diameter Finish machine, ranging from hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and control systems Sysmac CJ1M CPU21 Omron programmable logic controller (PLC). This paper proposes PC based data acquisition and load control system (DAALCS) to fulfill load. management functions for high voltage load customer. programmable logic controller (PLC) associated with digital power meter have been applied to fulfill major application functions of DAALCS. In the data acquisition subsystem,;two PLCs with redundant configuration are responsible for directly collecting power measurements via star connection telephone network with real time mode. 15 digital power meters with Standard RS485 protocol are installed on each building substation to record more than 20 parameters for data acquisition subsystem. In the load control subsystem, six sets of PLCs with the mixture of PLC network and RS 485 channel are constructed to execute load control schemes;The load control schemes compose of load shedding for demand monitoring, cycling on/off load control, timer control, and direct load control. The proposed system has been successfully installed and continuously operated on academic power system. The statistic data retrieved from data base shows that the DAALCS can effectively reduce the daytime peak load during summer season and significantly save electric energy consumption.

In this study, PID control algorithm for a level control system is designed and applied to a programmable logic controller in order to meet the requirements of engineering students' hands on training on PID control of processes. The auto-tuning mode of operation based on PID analog measurements in a closed-loop control system is preferred to present how stable, less time consuming solution it is. The rising appearance of system security threats against real-world Critical Infrastructure (CI) sites over the past years brought significant research attention into the security of Industrial Control Systems (ICS). Academic institutions and major industrial appliance vendors have since increased efforts on effective vulnerability discovery in these systems. However, from the investigation of the major recent ICS incidents, it is evident that a targeted post-exploitation chain plays a crucial role for an attack to succeed. After the initial access to the system is gained, typically through a previously unknown (zero-day) or unpatched vulnerability, weak credentials or insider assistance, a specific knowledge on the system architecture is applied to achieve stealthy and persistent presence in the system before the physical process is disrupted. In this work, we propose a set of post-exploitation and persistence techniques against WAGO PFC200 Series programmable logic controller (PLC). It will help to raise the awareness of stealthy and persistent threats to PLCs built on top of the variations of CODESYS runtime.

Micro-hydroelectric systems convert the energy of moving water into electric energy. In rural settings, micro hydroelectric systems are run at full power at all times to avoid the cost of expensive electromechanical controls. That in turn causes the generator to produce its maximum rated power. If the electric energy supply and demand are not matching, the generator eventually fails. Electronic load controllers have been proposed in the literature to better match the demand and supply. In this paper, an electrical load controller is implemented using a programmable logic controller (PLC). PLCs are used in industrial applications and can withstand high levels of dust, dirt and moisture making them very suitable for micro-hydroelectric applications. The proposed controller monitors the frequency of the generator. It will dynamically balance the system power by incrementing or decrementing the power rating of a resistive heating load. The controller was experimentally tested in a lab using a micro-hydroelectric emulator. The emulator includes a 13.8 kW generator, a 10 Hp motor, a motor drive and the PLC controller. The results showed that the PLC controller is a viable load control system for such an application.

In this paper, digitally controlled hybrid liquid level detection (HLLD) system using programmable logic controller (PLC) and microcontroller is articulated. In most of the industries, liquid (chemicals, paint, water, etc.,) is stored at ground levels or in underground tanks and then pumped into overhead tanks as per requirement. This method is advantageous because it is very easy to unload tanks of liquid into underground tanks, and liquid can be pumped as per its necessity. PLC is excellent industrial controller which is used for pump control along with its analog module interfaced to sensor for level detection. This system is efficient but very costly because of analog module. Proposed system eliminates the analog module and replaces it with an embedded microcontroller. In proposed system, PLC analog module is replaced by Arduino microcontroller. This reduces cost of system very much, even the sensors used with microcontroller are comparatively very cheap than those used with PLC directly. In the proposed mechanism, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system is also interfaced with PLC which monitors the level of liquid and logs the data of liquid usage for analysis. We propose using out-of-band emanations from embedded devices in order to detect malicious code execution. We passively monitor involuntary electromagnetic (EM) emissions from embedded devices to find and detect new signals. We demonstrate the efficacy and feasibility of an EM emanation based anomaly detection system using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software defined radio (SDR) hardware to detect code execution on an industrial control system (the Allen-Bradley 1756-EWEB module). We have developed a fully automated training and testing framework for this anomaly detection system. In this paper, we describe the system architecture, the cliff-detection algorithm used to process the received emanations, the testing setup and procedures, and our results. When trained on one set of EWEB modules and tested on a separate set, we present an experimental prototype capable of detecting unknown (attack) code execution with 98% accuracy at 100% detection rate. We present data supporting the robustness of these results across 16 physical device instances and with training recordings taken months apart from testing recordings.

Use of electricity in industry opened a new age which is dominated by industrial automation. In the beginning, automation systems were based on electro-mechanical systems consisting of relays and contactors. Developments in semiconductor technology inevitably transformed the existing structure and cause electronic-controlled programmable logic controller (PLC) to prevail in the automation systems. PLCs consist of a microcontroller/microprocessor, relay or transistor for switching, isolating equipment such as opto-couplers and voltage converter/inverters. Industrial PLCs are quite expensive devices. In this study, design and implementation of a low-cost PLC using PIC18F4580 microcontroller are realized. Special software including a graphical user-interface is developed for programming the PLC and transferring code data to the device. Both ladder diagram and word instructions can be used for programming the PLC.
