Abstract Robotics FPGA toolbox provides an orthogonal set of functions necessary to design the controls for any robotics system. The functions include motion control, safety I/O and vision. Typically designing the controls for a robotic system involves selecting a non-standard motion controller, a non-standard safety controller and a non-standard vision controller. Moreover, additional circuitry has to be designed to integrate the 3 systems. This results in significant overall cost and complexity. By implementing the required functionality in an integrated FPGA system, the overall costs are significantly reduced and the integration is greatly simplified.

In the paper a recurrent auto-associative artificial neural network structure is used to obtain a dynamic model of Biomass steam boiler system. Upon offline real process data a model was derived and results were compared to model derived by classic identification method. A good dynamic model was needed for design, testing and tuning of the Fuzzy controller, which resulted in optimization of steam production. By using recurrent auto-associative neural network instead of locally adequate state space model, more general model with a better fit to the wide range of process data was achieved. Implementation of such complex neural network was tested on typical industrial PLC and compared to Matlab simulation results.

While there are several approaches applying model checking to PLC programs, it is still not used in industry. This is due to the limited applicability of the existing approaches, which all translate PLC programs into the input languages of existing model checkers and thus suffer from certain problems. This paper presents a new approach that applies model checking directly to PLC programs written in IL without using translations. This has some advantages: domain-specific information is available during verification, users can make propositions about all features of the PLC, and counterexamples are given in the same language as the program, thus, simplifying the process of locating errors. In the described approach, a tailored simulator builds the state space for verification. Within this simulator, different abstraction techniques are used to tackle the state-explosion problem. A case study shows the applicability of this approach.

Smart switching system is designed for smart home control applications. The system uses real time programmablelogic controller (PLC) for switching the electrical appliances. Electrical appliance is a part of our daily needs for mankind. When such needs are in a very high demand, the user's requirement is also increasing to access their electrical appliances in a more flexible way and also safer to use. The system is capable of switching any electrical appliances manually, preprogrammed and remotely. The most common practice in our daily life's is manual switching. Manual switching is done with human access according to instant needs. The second method in this system is preprogramming method which allows the users to program the usage of certain electrical appliances in advance or repetitively. Such function can be used on daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly basis based on the requirements of the user. The third method in this system is remote switching where the users are capable of sending Short Messaging System (SMS) to switch ON and OFF their electrical appliances using mobile phones. Global System for Mobile Communication Modulator and Demodulator (GSM Modem) enables SMS commands to be received to the PLC. The applications of technology have seen many new intelligent systems overwriting the conventional method to ease human life in many ways. Many systems are designed to be flexible for the users and enable them to communicate for the latest status of their electrical appliances at any time. Such applications will be practical and benefits for both the domestic and industrial users from various level of electrical applications without boundaries.

In the recent past, employing visible light generated by white LEDs for indoor optical wireless have been proposed and implemented. Since white-LED is usually distributed over the ceiling for illumination, it is possible to use the ubiquitous powerline cables as a communication medium between other fixed network and LED lights. Some works have been done in this area but because powerline is an unpleasantly medium in case of noise and multipath distortion the existing systems do not have good quality factor. So considerations of these parameters are very important issue to model the actual system. In this paper a review of the integrated system is given while the multipath distortion and noises in the powerline channel are simulated.

As process geometries shrink, the Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) cost is increasing;the ability to make post-fabrication changes to System-on-Chip (SoC) is becoming more and more attractive. This ability can be realized by embedding a PLC (programmablelogic Core) into a SoC. However, the design of PLC is a complex and daunting process;there are many issues to be addressed such as architecture, performance and flexibility. Most of these issues are related to design methodology. In this paper, a novel design method based on standard cells is proposed. With this method, not only bi-directional routing resources in the PLC fabric can be maintained which largely saves the area, but the semi-custom design approach can be adopted which greatly enhances design efficiency. In order to verify this method, a proof-of-concept PLC prototype has been designed and fabricated. Meanwhile, relevant CAD Tools have also been presented. The experimental results prove this design methodology. This paper also discusses the performance and the area of PLC designed with this method.

In this study, a methodology for PLC implementation of Supervisory Control Theory is introduced and realized on a pneumatic manufacturing system. The implementation methodology resolves the problem of avalanche effect and enhances program readability. We use local modular approach, which exploits modular structure of the plant and of the specifications. Local modular approach, together with the implementation methodology presented in this study provides an effective way for synthesizing and realizing supervisors for Discrete Event Systems (DES) control problems. The resulting PLC program is also modular in structure, making it handable for modification and error detection.

This paper addresses the issues of modelling, simulation, design, and controller implementation in an Industrial Control course. The motivation for it comes from the fact that, differently from the plants used in first courses on control systems, which usually have fast step response, plants suitable for Industrial Control courses have slow step response. The consequence of this fact is that the experiments necessary to carry out the model parameter identification take a long time to be performed. This problem can be circumvented by using a benchmark plant to resemble the behaviour of the physical system. In this paper a benchmark is constructed from a real system, having as model, a first order system with time delay, where the time delay and the time constant are both varying. Controller implementation is carried out using the PID function of a programmablelogic controller (PLC).
