In the first part, the method of connection of the computer with the target system has been presented. The second part has been dedicated to the working algorithm of the controller and the structures of data. The summary presents the possible directions of further development of this project.

Over the years, PLCs have become computational efficient and powerful, and a robust platform with applications beyond the standard control and factory automation. Due to the new advanced PLC's features and computational power, they are ideal platforms for exploring advanced modeling and control methods, including computational intelligence based techniques such as neural networks, particle swarm optimization (PSO) and many others. Some of these techniques require fast floating-point calculations that are now possible in real-time on the PLC. This paper focuses on the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix brand of PLCs, due to their high performance and extensive use in industry. The design and implementation of a neurocontroller consisting of two neural networks, one for modeling and the other for control, and the training of these neural networks with particle swarm optimization is presented in this paper on a single PLC. The neurocontroller in this study is a power system stabilizer (PSS) that is used for power system oscillation damping. The PLC is interfaced to a power system simulated on the real time digital simulator. Real time results are presented showing that the PLC is a suitable hardware platform for implementing advanced modeling and control techniques for industrial applications.

The flexibility and benefits of Field programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) technology to carry out Reconfigurable logiccontrollers (RLC) in order to implement parallel control strategies in a natural way has been recently proved. Moreover, programmable logic controllers (PLC) are widely introduced in the industrial market. Therefore the necessity of obtaining a global and complete solution to combine traditional design process and the hardware implementation with both technologies appears. This paper describes a hardware-software platform which enables the implementation of logiccontrollers with both PLC and RLC. The software aids the development of logiccontrollers using design methods based on Petri Nets (PN) and translates them into instruction lists or into Hardware Description Language (HDL) codes. The hardware utilized is formed by a commercial Simatic S7 and a specific reconfigurable hardware which consists of a main card, combining a Cyclone FPGA and a USB controller, and on a set of digital and analog I/O cards. This hardware, as well as doing typical automation tasks, contributes to achieving additional characteristics such as simulation and monitoring.

Wormhole switching with fixed priority preemption has been proposed as a possible solution for real-time on-chip communication. However, none of current priority assignment policies works well in on-chip networks due to some inherent properties of the protocol. In this paper, a novel heuristic branch and bound search algorithm is introduced to explore the possible priority ordering. Differing from the traditional exhaust algorithm which costs exponential complexity, our algorithm can effectively reduce the search space. In addition, this algorithm can ensure that if a priority ordering exists that makes the traffic-flows schedulable, this priority ordering will be found by the search algorithm. By combining with schedulability analysis, a broad class of real-time communication with different QoS requirements can be explored and developed in a SoC/NoC communication platform.

UniSim is a graphic tool that can he used to develop and validate portable automation software, which fully complies with the IEC 61131-3 standard. UniSim is based on a graphical editor and on a simulation engine which allows to perforin off-line validation of the automation software. Its simulation engine can also be interfaced with off-the-shelf I/O boards, in order to fast prototype automation systems by using a Personal Computer. Hardware-in-the-loop validation can be performed interfacing the prototype with the real plant or with an emulator. Furthermore, UniSim adopts the new XML Formats for IEC 61131-3, which provides an open interface for data exchange among different systems. Thanks to this choice the code developed with UniSim can be easily ported among different commercial platforms, increasing software reusability. Although the current release of UniSim is a work in progress version, it is already available at [1] and it can be effectively used to develop small and medium automation size projects.

In this paper we define and investigate basic logical closure properties of propositional proof systems such as closure of arbitrary proof systems under modus ponens or substitutions. As our main result we obtain a purely logical characterization of the degrees of schematic extensions of EF in terms of a simple combination of these properties. This result underlines the empirical evidence that EF and its extensions admit a robust definition which rests on only a few central concepts from propositional logic.
