It has been widely verified that a fuzzy logic controller can achieve a better performance for industrial systems than conventional controllers. In addition, fuzzy logiccontrollers have a major interest of researchers in the area of industrial process control. For these reasons in this paper, a PID type fuzzy logic controller (FPID) is presented for programmable logic controllers (PLC), and the design steps are explained in detail (such as tuning FPID's parameters, using symmetric or non-symmetric membership functions) to express the presented FPID functional for industrial systems. The aim of this study is to put forward efficiency of PID type fuzzy logiccontrollers for PLCs on industrial long dead-time systems. Moreover in this paper, a PLC algorithm is constructed and the complete algorithm is tested in a first order long deadt-ime system, second order long dead-time systems, and results of this tests are offered and explained.

An asymmetric PI (aPI) controller based on a control algorithm, which is the modification of the PI control method, has been suggested. The principal characteristic feature of the aPI controller is that different values of proportional and integral constants are used at positive and at negative errors. Contrary to the classical PI controller, the proposed controller allows us to improve the positive disturbance rejection of control systems without sacrificing the unit step response dynamics. Results of the investigation of the concrete control systems based on the aPI controller are also presented. Using the dynamic system simulation program Simulink performed the investigation.

Source transfer for important electricity consuming customers has often been accomplished using discrete relays, such as overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, differential and sync check, plus logic created out of auxiliary relays and timers, or programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The advent of advanced digital protection systems with programmablelogic capabilities and the proper I/O structure can now allow the entire transfer protection and control to be accomplished by a single intelligent electronic device (IED), thereby simplifying and enhancing the process. Simplification is the result of the protection and logic being linkable in software so all interlocking, timing and sequencing functions are made in a single or minimal amount of IEDs by programming. Enhancements include the elimination of discrete device interwiring, the ability to have concise event logging for all protection and logic functions to aid in documenting successful sequences, diagnosis of incomplete sequences and asset management of the switchgear involved in the transfer process. The transfer types discussed and illustrated include hot parallel (non-sequential), residual voltage and time delayed (sequential).

The design of programmablelogic arrays using NAND-NOR gates for the AND and OR logic planes, respectively, instead of the conventional NOR-NOR planes is described. The circuit architecture uses a hierarchical tree of four input domino NAND gates to implement the AND plane. The OR plane is split in two for increased speed and robustness. The circuits as well as timing and power advantages are described. Simulations on a foundry 130 nm process show nearly 50% power savings at less than 10% delay cost, primarily due to lower AND plane activity factor and reduced clock loading. Copyright 2006 ACM.
