Today's PLC systems are mostly limited in transmission speeds to several kilobits per seconds. Such speeds are certainly not sufficient for running popular services like a broadband Internet, a teleworking or the Video on Demand. This fact is reducing a chance of the PLC technology's deployment in a wide range. One way how to overcome this problem could be in introduction of optimal errors correcting techniques into the PLC technology. In this contribution, different types of coding techniques are discussed, including RS, Turbo or Convolutional codes. Theoretical analyses are focused on their positive and negative features visible in case of their deployment in the PLC transmission environment. Special attention is pointed to their robustness against noises, which is analyzed also practically in form of the simulations. Analyses and simulations are done for individual codes as well as combination of codes.

This Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) standardization in process industry makes a lot of sense. P&ID is a kind of control document. Many projects of similar kind are executed over time with some project specific changes. For such a project, designing fresh P&ID or editing old P&ID does take huge time. The mistakes in old versions are carried forward in next project as well. Instead of preparing new P&ID from scratch or editing previous projects P&ID, we standardize it. Standardizing is not only referring standard philosophy but also minimizing development hours to reduce time to market. Our method proves to be time efficient as well as fewer howlers. Onetime efforts can save many man hours. In this paper Instrumentation and other equipment option for an application are prepared in AutoCAD. Document thus prepared can be very much helpful while bidding also. As P&ID is the document of high importance in initial phase of project, if it could be completed in very short time then will be much beneficial to organization. Time and quality are measure constraints of project management, time invisibly refers to cost, and thus time for development of P&ID must be reduced.

The increasing share of decentral renewable energy in Germany requires the flexibilization of prosumers in the electricity grid. Prosumers that can shift power demand from high price intervals to low price intervals can make use of time-variable electricity prices. In this research an optimization-based method called economic model predictive control (MPC) is implemented on field-typical hardware to show practical considerations of this application. The implementation is evaluated in a hardware-in-the-loop test bench using simulation data obtained from measurements in an existing production facility. In this manner, we demonstrate that the field application of economic MPC is feasible and can generate economic benefits for the energy system operator.

In machine and plant automation model-driven programming of programmablelogic Controller (PLC) software is becoming an alternative to the state-of-the-art programming. As part of the related work the authors first present the results of a previously finished project on model-driven approaches for Multi Agent System (MAS) PLC programming, in particular using the Systems Modeling Language (SysML). A tool supported procedure model was developed that assists automation engineers implementing MAS in order to enhance reliability of the plants as well as reusability of implemented modules. Subsequently, related work on the evaluation of PLC programming approaches is discussed and the qualitative evaluation study for our newly developed procedure model is presented. In the last section, we present the study results and discuss our findings and their meaning for future developments and experiments.

In spite of the rising complexity and functionality of programmablelogic Controller (PLC) software, a high degree in quality and reliability has to be guaranteed for automated production systems. Applying structured testing, faults can be recognized and eliminated early during the engineering process. Therefore, in this paper an approach for automatic test suite generation implemented with Fault Injection (FI) for modular production systems is presented. The automatically generated test suite consists of test cases selected out of a test case library. The approach is developed based on the simulation environment MATLAB/Simulink and evaluated with a PLC of a packaging machine as hardware-in-the-loop test. The goal of this paper is the development of an automatic test suite generation approach with fault injection conducted with modular packaging machines.
