One of the most widespread techniques to evaluate various aspects of an existing manufacturing system is discrete-event simulation (DES). However, building a simulation model of a manufacturing system needs great resource expenditures. Automated data col-lection and model buildup can drastically reduce the time of the design phase as well as support model reusability. Since most of the manufacturing systems are controlled by low level controllers they store structure and control logic of the system to be modeled by a DES system. This paper deals with experimental verification of the new modified Filtered Smith Predictor with primary 2DOF P-controller that simplifies treatment of the control constraints carried out on a physical model of a stable optical plant using a PLC. Testing the traditional and the new solutions with different disturbance filters by real time experiments fully confirms superiority of the new controllers in constrained control. However, building a simulation model of a manufacturing system is a difficult task and needs great resource expenditures. Automated data collection and model buildup can drastically reduce the time of the design phase as well as support model reusability. Since most of the manufacturing systems are controlled by low level controllers (e.g., PLCs, CNCs) they store structure and control logic of the system to be modeled by a DES system. The paper introduces an ongoing research of PLC program processing method for automatic simulation model generation of a conveyor system of a leading automotive factory. Results of the validation process and simulation experiments are also described through a case study.

Traffic lights are commonly known as the stop light or stop-and-go lights used as a source of signaling device in junctions around the world. It is common to position traffic lights on a certain road intersections, pedestrian crossings and other locations to control competing flows of traffic in order to enhance the smoothness of traffic flow. Traffic lights have been installed in most cities around the world regardless of different standards set by the local authorities. Traffic light controllers is programmed to assign timely directions for road users by demand in the form of colors which is Red, Amber and Green. Even though traffic lights are known as the best device in controlling traffic flow for road users, yet accidents reported at the traffic junction is very common. There are 2 methods in controlling the traffic light system placed on a certain junction. The most common one is the sequencing method, whereby the traffic light system is designed to operate according to the preprogrammed sequence without any consideration of real time behavior. The second method is the demand based controller which response to the preprogrammed timer based on real time sensor detection on a certain road junction. With both method widely used around the world, surety on traffic flow smoothness is not established. When authorities talk about efficiency and accuracy on real time traffic flow control, there are always room for further enhancement especially on the controlling and sensing method. In the afford to provide a solution for such miseries, a novel implementation of sensing method which will be incorporated with self conditioning program will be a practical solution. The new sensing method is capable of counting the total number of vehicles entering a certain junction and exiting from a certain junction on real time basis. In machine and plant automation model-driven programming of programmablelogic Controller (PLC) software is becoming an alternative to the state-of-the-art programming. As part of the related work the authors first present the results of a previously finished project on model-driven approaches for Multi Agent System (MAS) PLC programming, in particular using the Systems Modeling Language (SysML). A tool supported procedure model was developed that assists automation engineers implementing MAS in order to enhance reliability of the plants as well as reusability of implemented modules. Subsequently, related work on the evaluation of PLC programming approaches is discussed and the qualitative evaluation study for our newly developed procedure model is presented. In the last section, we present the study results and discuss our findings and their meaning for future developments and experiments.

Power line communication (PLC) technology is at a tipping point and may become ubiquitous as a home networking technology. However, there are concerns regarding RF interference between PLC networks and other radio operators. It is imperative that the interference dynamics of PLC systems be fully understood in advance of any large-scale roll-out. In this work, we experiment with two interference scenarios: notch-infilling due to non-linear mixing and mitigation of radiated emissions using RF chokes. In our controlled test bed environment, we measure RF emissions from the power line devices in the 1 MHz to 30 MHz range. Through the results and simulation, we demonstrate that the effect of non-linear devices may be less of a concern than initially thought, and that simple methods can be employed to control local RF interference.

We describe the design and implementation of a narrowband power line communications (PLC) modem. The modem uses frequency shift keying (FSK) and is implemented on a C6000 DSP. The use of FSK and the selected receiver architecture allows for a simple and efficient implementation. The project is used in an international DSP course to introduce students to basic signal processing algorithms.
