An energy consumption monitoring and management system was established in the wind tunnel center of Tongji University. The hardware of the system included electronic measuring instrument, programmable logic controller (PLC) and an energy-saving data collection server, EcoWebServer IL The electronic measuring instrument collected electric parameters of each circuit node and EcoWebServer II monitored and stored the energy consumption data. The software of the system included project management module, system configuration module, system maintenance module and data monitoring and analysis module. In the data analysis module, an energy consumption model was developed with the decision tree algorithm. The model can predict the hourly electricity consumption of the office building in wind tunnel center. The equipment energy consumption also can be analyzed and the warm-up time can be predicted using collected data. The users can reduce the warm-up time to save energy consumption.

This paper presents the development and real-time implementation of on-line, automatic gain-tuning proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller using the programmable logic controller (PLC) on a heater-furnace system The mamdani-type fuzzy logiccontroller (FLC) tunes only the PID gains and the structure of the PID is not altered. Thereby the robustness of the pm to linear parameter variations is maintained. With the help of the fuzzy controller PID is made to overcome the non-linear disturbances that can occur in a real-time environment. The developed controller is implemented on a heater-furnace system and the algorithms are developed using the ladder functions of the PLC. The real-time implementation of the conventional velocity-form pm and the Fuzzy-pm gain tuner are carried out and the results are presented. This approach provides more flexibility to use the control program with those PLCs which do not support ready pm and fuzzy-pm blocks. It is shown that the developed fuzzy tuned PID is able to track the parameter variations quickly than the conventional one with minimum overshoot and faster settling time.

In this study, a digital fault location and monitoring technique using programmable logic controller (PLC) for primary overhead power distribution networks is presented. This technique employs pre- and post-fault current and voltage information along with data from the laterals. By using lateral current data transferred through shielded coaxial cables to the substation, the possibility of multiple fault point locations are eliminated. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to describe the tool and procedure developed in order to design the control laws of several UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) sub-systems. The authors designed and developed the logics governing: landing gear, nose wheel steering, wheel braking, and fuel system. Design/methodology/approach - This procedure is based on a general purpose, object-oriented, simulation tool. The development method used is based on three-steps. The main structure of the control laws is defined through flow charts;then the logics are ported to ANSI-C programming language;finally the code is implemented inside the status model. The status model is a Matlab-Simulink model, which uses an embedded Matlab-function to model the FCC (Flight Control Computer). The core block is linked with the components, but cannot access their internal model. Interfaces between FCCs and system components in the model reflect real system ones. Findings - The user verifies systems' reactions in real time, through the status model. Using block-oriented approach, development of the control laws and integration of several systems is faster. Practical implications - The tool aims to test and validate the control laws dynamically, helping specialists to find out odd logics or undesired responses, during the pre-design. Originality/value - The development team can test and verify the control laws in various failure scenarios. This tool allows more reliable and effective logics to be produced, which can be directly used on the system.

The paper presents some program examples written and tested to show possibilities of construction of CPUs for PLCs build based on FPGA development platform. Presented unit is optimised for minimum response and throughput time. The constructions are based on bit-word structures of CPU and two types of data (condition) exchange methods: with acknowledge and without acknowledge – in both cases control data are passed through the set of flip-flops. Third unit is built to compare with these two. This unit is simple one processor unit which can execute both - binary and numerical operations. The experiments shown high performances of elaborated CPUs.

This paper presents a temporal characterization for automation systems. The final goal is to achieve a whole model in which a schedulability analysis could be applied in order to assure that this kind of systems meet timing non-functional requirements of the application. This work is performed in the context of a Model Driven Development approach. The definition of three Domain Specific Models: control specification, and hardware and software architectures, is the base for the whole model. In particular, the software domain model uses the XML interface defined by PLCopen for expressing IEC 61131-3 automation projects. The information contained in the model of the application is processed to generate the temporal model of the automation system. A specific transformation of this model makes possible to carry out a schedulability analysis of the system. In particular, this is achieved by generating the specific input model of the well-known Modelling and Analysis Suite for Real-Time Applications, MAST.
