Automatic synchronization is one of the important functions of marine power station management system. Grasping of ACB (air circuit breaker of generator) closing opportunity is the difficult and key point of automatic synchronization control. This paper offers a rapid and simple method of automatic synchronization control based on PLC and emphasizes on discussing a new method of grasping ACB closing opportunity in synchronization control. The system researched makes the best use of the computing function of PLC program and reduces the hardware as possible to improve the reliability and economical efficiency. Similar triangle principle and a new timing mode based on PLC scan cycle are adopted in grasping ACB closing opportunity. Several years of operation in training lab proved that the automatic synchronization system is reliable and steady.

The wide spread utilization of industrial communication networks in industrial applications for Low-Voltage Motor Control Centers (LV MCC's) started in 1995 when Open DeviceNet Vendors Association (ODVA) was formed and an open standard for DeviceNet was developed. The main value proposition behind networks was wire savings and reduction of downtime, both quantifiable and tangible benefits, as well as many non-tangible metrics such as data richness and diagnostics. Today there are many types of industrial networks available. These networks provide connectivity from working equipment to upstream supervisory programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS) in process environments, or Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems which usually also employ an operator interface (OI) for control and monitoring. When an advanced communicating system is employed, facilities typically need personnel proficient in network installation and diagnostics, supervisory control programming, device programming and OI design, thus requiring a more technical resource than a traditional hard wired system. It is the intent of this paper to timeline industrial networks past and future, inform the reader of current standards for equipment control and automation, and to share how the industry is adapting to support these emerging challenges.

Photovoltaic pumping systems (PVPS) based on standard frequency converters (SFCs) are Currently experiencing a growing interest in pumping programmes implemented in remote areas because of their high performance in terms of component reliability, low cost, high power range and good availability of components virtually anywhere in the world. However, in practical applications there have appeared a number of problems related to the adaptation of the SFCs to the requirements of the photovoltaic pumping systems (PVPS). Another disadvantage of dedicated PVPS is the difficulty in implementing maximum power point tracking (MPPT). This paper shows that these problems can be solved through the addition of a basic industrial programmable logic controller (PLC) to the system. This PLC does not increase the cost and complexity of the system, but improves the adaptation of the SFC to the photovoltaic pumping system, and increases the overall performance of the system. Abstract The paper deal with a deep analysis and application of object-oriented methodologies for the design process of industrial machine controllers. The process pass thought the phases of (1) conceptual model development of the software artifacts, and (2) model code deployment for the automation system target, which is in general a programmable logic controller (PLC) compliant with the international standard IEC 61131-3 for programming languages. The paper describes a design pattern for the software conceptual model deployment, with a particular emphasis on practical requirements enforced by PLC of different brands. In fact, IEC 61131-3 compliance provides a common “look-and-feel” for programming languages, but does not guarantee straightforward code portability between different PLC vendors. The paper has a great focus on applications and provides an example, based on a generic flow-pack machine, to better explain the proposed methodology.

Chemical processes, employed for manufacturing basic chemicals are highly energy intensive. Due to escalating costs of fossil fuels and capacity addition, the electricity cost has been increasing for the last few decades. Electricity intensive industries find it very difficult to cope up with higher electricity charges particularly with time-of-use (TOU) tariffs implemented by the utilities with the objective of flattening the load curve. Load management programs focusing on reduced electricity use at the time of utility's peak demand, by strategic load shifting, is a viable option for industries to reduce their electricity cost. This paper presents an optimization model and formulation for load management of continuous process industries. The case study of a chemical industry is taken for conducting load management study. The formulation utilizes nonlinear programming technique for minimizing the electricity cost and reducing the peak demand, by rescheduling the loads, satisfying the industry constraints. Development of a generalized graphical user interface (GUI) in Visual Basic for implementing load management actions in industries and testing the GUI with the case study are done. Real time implementation of load management actions using programmable logic controller (PLC) is also investigated.

The adoption of service-oriented architectures based on web services in industrial application domains enables the seamless integration of business software with manufacturing tasks and promises increased interoperability. To be able to invoke a manufacturing task running on a programmable logic controller (PLC) as a web service from a business application, the SOAP4PLC engine has been proposed. In this paper, an extension of the SOAP4PLC engine is presented to invoke a web service based business application from a PLC application. A use case is shown in which the extended SOAP4PLC engine is used to interface a PLC application concerned with realizing the functionality of a charging station for electrical vehicles with a web service based accounting system.

Workpiece turnover is completed automatically by the automatic turnover device in automatic production line,Workpiece turnover device is an important part of automatic production line. Its hydraulic system was designed, its working principle was analysed, and the PLC control system was designed according to the control requirements to the hydraulic system of workpiece turnover. The Siemens PLC of SIMATIC S7-200 CPU266 was selected and a STEP7-Micro/WIN programming software was used to program the system control process. Using PLC control hydraulic system, can be very easy to meet process requirements, improve greatly the system stability, reliability, security and automation level.
