This paper presents a command and control system implemented in Motru Hydro Power Plant. The system is an open system that allows further development of hardware and software, both the process and operating stations and in the communication system. System management is provided with the opportunity to connect to a higher level of supervision of the plant and monitoring SCADA systems in the central dispatcher (OPC 2.0, Modbus TCP / IP).

The conception of the hardware-software platform is presented in the paper. Presented platform is designed in order to test different constructions of the central processing units dedicated to programmable logic controllers. Selected hardware solutions for the PLC dual processor bit-byte (word) CPUs, which are oriented for optimised maximum utilization of capabilities of the two-processor architecture of the CPU are presented in the paper. The key point is preserving high speed of instruction processing by the bit-processor, and high speed and functionality of the byte (word)-processor. The structure should enable the processors to work in concurrent mode as far as it is possible, and minimize the situations, when one processor has to wait for the other. Designed platform is based on the development board equipped with Xilinx Virtex-4 FPGA. Software tool for testing possibilities of the selected units and testing utilization of the programmable structure was also developed.

Model checking is often applied to verify safety-critical software implemented in programmable logic controller (PLC) language such as a function block diagram (FBD). Counter-examples generated by a model checker are often too lengthy and complex to analyze. This paper describes the FBDVerifier which allows domain experts to perform automated model checking and intuitive visual analysis of counter-examples without having to know technical details on temporal logic or the model checker. Once the FBD program is automatically translated into a semantically equivalent Verilog model and model checking is performed using SMV, users can enter various expressions to investigate why verification of certain properties failed. When applied to FBD programs implementing a shutdown system for a nuclear power plant, domain engineers were able to perform effective FBD verification and detect logical errors in the FBD design.

This paper presents the development of a supervision and control system architecture to assist the residential user saving resources and detecting failures. Similar to what happened in the automobile industry, the increasing number of sensors and actuator existing on a building requires a robust, flexible and reliable system. The proposed system uses a microcontroller network to acquire data from sensors and control actuators using different protocols (CAN, I 2 C and Modbus). The system information and control is provided through a local and remote user interface application, using a computer connected to the network, a database and dedicated software applications.

This paper describes the implementation of serial communication between the PLC and the host- computer in the control system of waste water pump, gives a detailed introduction to the communication protocols and parameters setting and also gives part of the serial-communication program based on visual basic 6.0. Pratice shows that this control system meets the requirements as expected, attains management without human, which reduces the operating cost of the water pump.

This paper presents a novel implementation of a constrained predictive control (MPC) algorithm. The MPC algorithm is based on Laguerre predictions and multi-parametric solutions guaranteeing larger feasibility sets, low computational burden and memory storage. Specifically the paper discusses programming of MPC in an industrial Programable logiccontroller (PLC) software. A laboratory experiment test was carried out to demonstrate the code on real hardware. The result of this work serve as an encouragement to further investigate the potential for developing efficient algorithms within off the shelf industrial standard hardware.
