This paper consists of the development and design of a low cost programmable logic controller device. For this purpose, we designed an electronic circuit to make the inputs and outputs of the Arduino platform compatible to industrial standards of electrical signals. In addition, the programming of the electronic device uses a graphical diagram interface to facilitate the interaction with the user. In order to design this embedded system, the choice of accessible, low-cost and open-source components was of great relevance, as is the case with ladder programming software. The fact of being open-source enhances collaboration and adaptation for specific applications. This project applied as a tool for teaching in engineering has generated promising results.

Design of intelligent control system for networkable stereo garage based on microprocessor

The demand for stereo garages has been an urgent issue as the number of vehicles in China has been soaring these years. An intelligent control system for networked stereo garages is introduced here. Based on authors' design, the movement of the parking plate is controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC). PLC sends the parking space status, the limit switch state, and the motor running parameters to the acorn RSIC machine (ARM) control system. The ARM control system then uploads the license plate recognition result and the garage operation data to the cloud platform instantly through internal network. The cloud platform would develop corresponding control strategies based on data received from the cloud portal (website and application (APP)) and the ARM controller. The test result of the system indicates that it meets the requirements of relevant technical indicators and the actual needs of users.

In Drinking water treatment plant (DWTP), mainly those that are in the rural area, your pumping operations are done manually. However, the consequences of a human error in these tasks can be: waste of water (vital resource) and energy consumed by the pumping system, and shortages from the DWTP to users. This demonstrates the need to design a low-cost technological architecture for the automation of the water pumping and storage system applied to DWTP. As a result of the project, a prototype was developed with electronic components compatible with the IoT paradigm, and it was applied in the purification stage of the DWTP of the city of Catamayo. To evaluate the operation of the prototype of the automation system, data was obtained from the input / output variables, for 24 hours every 6 seconds. The variables simultaneously acquired in field tests were: minimum level status, maximum level status, pump activation status, and manual / automatic mode of operation. With the signals, it was possible to confirm the correct logic of the pump drive and the high efficiency of the communication system.

The pumping system of the Administration Board of Drinking Water and Sanitation of the Algarrobera (JAAPS-LA) is made up of a cylindrical aquifer with dimensions of 70 meters deep and 0.305 meters in diameter, the central element of this system is the submersible pump electrical, which is controlled by time. This current system has some deficiencies, among them the shortage of drinking water when the demand of the users is higher than the nominal one;and the large waste of potable water when the demand is lower than the nominal one. The present work proposes the design, implementation and integration of a monitoring and automation system applied to the JAAPS-LA pumping system, based on a wireless sensor network, open hardware and a PLC. As a result, all the modules of the system were implemented: the liquid level acquisition module in the distribution tank by means of liquid level sensors;the wireless data transmission and reception module;the drive module of the pump by means of the programmable logic controller (PLC);and, finally, the solar-photovoltaic energy capture module. To evaluate the performance of the monitoring and automation system implemented, the behavior was monitored for 4 days, with the data obtained it was possible to verify the correct pump drive logic and the high efficiency (100%) of the communication system.

During a risk assessment of industrial sites, a team discovered that key facility control systems were obsolete and had a high risk of unplanned shutdown. A multi-year program was undertaken to upgrade the industrial sites. This involved taking aging systems, with obsolete programming, and upgrading to newer systems with different programming language. The main stakeholder concern was that a shutdown of any operation for the upgrade would result in lost revenue. The team utilized simulation with defined interfaces to the new logic controllers to aid in the quality checking of programming and startup of new systems. A unique metric was developed for the simulations as well to benchmark results based on the complexity of each facility. A variation to a traditional Delphi method was utilized to evaluate the most efficient way to perform simulation and testing via an objective analysis and results show a 40% improvement in simulation cost efficiency over the span of the multi-year upgrade to ten industrial sites.

This paper proposes a method to build an identified model from an observed sequence of input/output vectors and a model of knowledge on the system to identify. This method comprises two steps. The first one starts by checking whether the knowledge model is compatible with the observed sequence;when this is the case, the identified model is built automatically. From this result, the observed and unobserved behaviors of the knowledge model are then explicitly determined, in a second step. Industrial control systems （ICSs） are widely used in critical infrastructures, making them popular targets for attacks to cause catastrophic physical damage. As one of the most critical components in ICSs, the programmable logic controller （PLC） controls the actuators directly. A PLC executing a malicious program can cause significant property loss or even casualties. The number of attacks targeted at PLCs has increased noticeably over the last few years, exposing the vulnerability of the PLC and the importance of PLC protection. Unfortunately, PLCs cannot be protected by traditional intrusion detection systems or antivirus software. Thus, an effective method for PLC protection is yet to be designed. Motivated by these concerns, we propose a non-invasive power- based anomaly detection scheme for PLCs. The basic idea is to detect malicious software execution in a PLC through analyzing its power consumption, which is measured by inserting a shunt resistor in series with the CPU in a PLC while it is executing instructions. To analyze the power measurements, we extract a discriminative feature set from the power trace, and then train a long short-term memory （LSTM） neural network with the features of normal samples to predict the next time step of a normal sample. Finally, an abnormal sample is identified through comparing the predicted sample and the actual sample. The advantages of our method are that it requires no software modification on the original system and is able to detect unknown attacks effectively. The method is evaluated on a lab testbed, and for a trojan attack whose difference from the normal program is around 0.63%, the detection accuracy reaches 99.83%.

Hybrid renewable energy system consists of two or more renewable energy sources combined together allowing improved system efficiency and reliability. Integrating this source creates a stand-alone energy source, i.e., both dependent and consistent. In this paper, an attempt has been made to integrate the power generated by renewable energy sources using programmable logic controller (PLC). Here PLC decides which source is to be connected for the given load according to the designed ladder logic program that was developed in PLC using Rx logic software. Finally, a prototype model of integrated renewable sources has been successfully implemented using PLC kit which can feed AC as well as DC load.

In the paper we consider modeling of a manipulator that is based on hybrid method of solving inverse kinematics (IK) problem with using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and an algorithm for iterative refinement by Newton-Raphson method. the process of control system synthesis for the multi-link redundant manipulator with the use of a programmable logic controller (PLC) is also demonstrated. The presented control system provides controlled accuracy of calculations in real-time systems. This method of solving IK problem could be applied for various constructions of manipulator with different parameters, this advantage makes the control system cross-platform. Simulation of the developed control system was performed in the Matlab environment. A mathematical equations of the constructing the manipulator workspace and an example of training neural networks of the control system are given. The results of the solution of IK problem are presented.

This paper focuses on developing a universal Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation workplace which is used in education and research in the field of mechatronic systems modelling and control. The workplace concept is based on generally available and employed hardware (programmable logic controller) and software means (MATLAB), configured to enable work on practically any type of both continuous and discrete system. The technological equipment of the workplace can be further expanded for work on larger MIMO systems found in real technological practice. The workplace is mainly being used for solving tasks related to electric drives, mechatronics, robotics and technological plant control. A case study involving a DC motor drive control is included in the paper.
