Ball screw actuator has an important application in the field of ultra-precision machines as it delivers high precision motion in work machines where both high rigidity and positioning accuracy is required. Friction in the actuator is identified using two models namely, Tustin model and LuGre model. The ball screw driven system is designed and developed. The developed system is used to control the position of ball screw actuator. programmable logic controller is used to control the ball screw driven system.

In this paper, the results of a research and development project sponsored by Nucor Steel Corporation, Marion, Ohio, is presented. This project is conducted at Michigan Technological University with the objective to design and develop an automated robotic system for precise stacking of highway signposts, while complying with the required stacking pattern as well as time constraints. The design and development is fulfilled for the three main subsystems including structural support, end-effector, and control subsystems. The completed stacker system is tested at Michigan Technological University and delivered to Nucor Steel plant to be installed at Press #2 of the production line in highway products division.

The aim of this paper is to presents a approach for build a model based on Hierarchical Colored Petri Net（HCPN） for Networked Control System（NCS） with programmable logic controller（PLC） which using formal discrete simulation and modeling First,a structure-conserving timed hierarchal model is built to generate sampled time delay data so that research about time delays woule be very convenient,Moreover,compared with the traditional modeling method,the presented model take Data Packet dropout,Date Packet retransmission and Data Packet disorders into account ***,it extracts data from the HCPN model of NCS which include two important time delay for the design of controller in PLC,one is the controller-to-actuator delay τ,and another is the sensor-to-controller delay τ.Finally,the periodic of time delay will be analyzed using the period grams from the result of simulation The results show that the periodic will be destroyed by the uncertainty transmission time of Ethernet.

The paper reveals a two-processor Central Processing Unit (CPU) designed for programmable logic controllers (PLC). The CPU is made up of a 1-bit (bit-type) processor and a 32-bit (word-type) processor. The both processors are operated totally independently from one another and information between them is exchanged via a exchange memory module. The 1-bit processor collaborates with edge detectors whilst the 32-bit processor is dedicated for implementation of timers and counters as well as enables execution of arithmetic operations on 32-bit integers and floating point variables. The both processors have been developed as specialized structures capable of executing control routines developed in the Instruction List (IL) programming language in line with requirements of the EN 61131-3 standard. The study presents a new approach to development of the exchange memory module and edge detectors as well as implementation of timers and counters. It is the approach that combines both software and hardware solutions, which makes them more efficient in terms of time performance as compared to already known solutions. Finally the CPU was designed with use of the hardware description language and then implemented in FPGA resources. This paper discloses results of the synthesis and execution times achieved for both individual instructions and benchmarks routines running on the newly designed CPU. The accomplished results make it possible to conclude that the CPU can be considered as an alternative solution to other units available from the market whilst the capability to execute algorithms developed in strict conformity to EN 61131-3 standard is its advantage.

A programmable logic controller (pLC) based power factor correction method for a 3-phase Induction Motor (IM) through switching of shunt capacitors is proposed in this paper. A 3 phase IM has a low power factor (pt) at no load as it draws large magnetizing current and the active power delivered to the motor is low, which is utilized to overcome the no-load losses. The PLC based power factor improvement algorithm is developed and implemented on a 3 Phase laboratory prototype IM coupled to a DC generator and the effectiveness of the algorithm is tested under no-load and loaded condition. Based on the instantaneously measured value of power factor, the PLC switches the appropriate bank of capacitors into the circuit depending on the load condition to improve the pf. Large scale use of PLC in industrial automation, adaptability, simple implementation and economics justified its selection as the switching controller. A significant improvement in power factor under different loading conditions is observed.

Pasteurization is a process of heating food products at a specified temperature to eliminate micro bacteria contaminants that may endanger consumer health. In dairy food industries, the pasteurization process often set to achieve products' temperature between 70 degrees C to 75 degrees C during 15 seconds. This paper reports the development of control system for a lab scale pasteurization process plant Armfield PCT23MKII which is equipped with programmable logic controller (PLC) Allen Bradley SLC 5/02 and OPC KepServer5 real time interface. A MATLAB based model predictive control (MPC) algorithm is developed for the mini plant and its performance is compared to standard PID and PID cascade controllers. Based on the experimental results, it was found that the developed MPC was capable of eliminating over shoot, achieve a fast settling time with an integral absolute error (IAE) of 3884 and energy consumption 613.2 kJ. In comparison with both the PID and PID cascade controllers, it is also shown that the proposed MPC algorithm has better performance in terms of adapting to load change and mitigating disturbances.

Based on manufacturing technology analysis of bearing rings and on methods and instruments for their dimensional measurement, this paper recommends a post-process measurement system in which a programmable logic controller (PLC) is used to supervise and locally command the measurement process and communicate with a personal computer. Decisions to modify the manufacturing process could be taken based on data processing and evaluation of results.

The AVL E-STORAGE BTE is a high-voltage power supply which is designed for characterization and verification of electric driveline components in the automotive, off-highway, marine and aviation industries. It is able to provide a voltage-range from 8V to 800V with a power output up to 250kW. Due to its dynamic performance an ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) real-time emulator for Power Electronics is needed. In our HIL setup, HIL602, a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) based system is used to emulate power electronics and interact with the Power controller Unit (PCU) as well as the programmable logic controller (PLC). The PLC handles information from user commands, controls digital inputs/outputs and executes a state machine, whereas the PCU contains controller boards for interaction with the mains rectifier (MR) and step-down converter (STDC). The AVL E-Storage power electronics model is built, compiled and simulated using its mathematical representation in HIL software, where the analog/digital I/Os are controlled. Automating the HIL testing is crucial because it helps to reduce costs, to detect possible errors in the early development stage and it provides a real-time fault tolerant operation. This paper presents an approach to test the functionality of E-Storage Battery Tester & Emulator (BTE) System's PCU- and PLC-Software in automated tests.

In this paper, we focus on problem of energy loss in the split type air-conditioning. Whereas temperature, number and position of people in the room are vary, an average return air is used to control compressor period. However, this method leads to wasting energy with other loads such as tables, chairs, books, and so on. We propose adaptive actual load for energy saving in the split type air-conditioning. Firstly, we use image sequence for predicting the positions and number of people, and demanded temperature of actual load. Then, we adapt actual load by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models. We calculate time period of condensing unit which consists of compressor, condensing fan and speed of evaporator fan. Finally, we use programmable logic controller (PLC) for operating compressor and condensing fan and speed of evaporator fan. The experiments are performed and the results are compared to the conventional method. The results show some improvement in energy saving.

In this paper the approach of automation of control processes of floating docks parameters on the basis of SCADA systems with wireless data transmission is presented. The hierarchical structure of SCADA system for floating docks docking operations, which has the decentralized information processing as well as individual software and hardware components, is given. The specialized human-machine interface for visual display of functioning of the floating docks docking operations SCADA system is designed. The efficiency of the proposed SCADA system is tested on the developed experimental stand.
