This paper discusses the feasibility of using neural networks as a tool in the fault detection process. A neural network is integrated with a state language programmable logic controller, an important device in an automatic control system. Time series data related to time spent in a state is gathered and used as input into a neural network, for the purpose of identifying when a fault has occurred. A feedforward neural network is used to identify which (if any) of three types of faults may have occurred. Experimental results related to sensitivity and accuracy measures are presented. A brief review of related applications and research is also presented.

Material handling in manufacturing systems is becoming easier as the automated machine technology is improved. Nowadays, most of the research aims at increasing the flexibility and improving the performance of the automatic guided vehicle (AGV). In this paper, designed and made AGV in the Industrial Control Laboratory in Royce Lab at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology will be presented. For controlling the navigation of the AGV, a newly developed controller integrated fuzzy logic with programmable logic controller will be used. By using integrated fuzzy logiccontroller with programmable logic controller (IFLPLC), the flexibility of AGV will be increased and we achieved great advantages, which can be used in future. Since this AGV uses programmable logic controller and fuzzy logiccontrollers together, then it will be useful for factories which implement flexible manufacturing system (FMS). Online maintenance and sending the commands to other machines from AGV and so on are the advantages that can be used in FMS. The aim of this paper is to propose the practical example of IFLPLC. The designed AGV is able to reach the target. Further researches are required for collision avoidance and selecting the best way in FMS.

The trend of smart home applications is growing, and the final operation and calculation are still needed to go back to the automatic control technologies of the system. Automatic control focuses on the flexibility and finesse of control. The programmable logic controller (PLC) has the advantages of simple function, high speed, high reliability, high noise resistance, and high stability, which is very beneficial for automatic control applications. Therefore, this study applies PLC combined with the home environment to complete the multi-faceted home automation control functions. In order to facilitate the operation and use of the various home environment, this study uses the human-computer interaction interface to humanize the integration of home control related functions. In addition, we through the ladder diagrams to show the various plans and cooperation of home control and to achieve a variety of home automation control functions, including anti-theft control, lighting control, temperature control, fire control, and sleep mode. Finally, a small house that simulates a home situation is used to demonstrate the home automation function achieved. This study will help to derive PLCs into future smart homes to provide more stable and efficient home automation control functions.

Many technological developments contribute to the progress of the education system. Especially, engineering education is affected by the latest developments in internet technology. Therefore, the engineering education system has to keep up with developing technology by using web-based systems. This work provides a convenient method to improve students' learning outcomes, their skills and their real-time experiences in multidisciplinary engineering education such as electrical, electronics, mechatronics and control engineering. In this study, a web-based real-time laboratory system was developed by using a programmable logic controller-connected MATLAB server via object linking and embedding for process control. The developed educational tool can be accessed on internet by the currently registered students. This remote accessible real-time mechatronic system consists of a programmable logic controller-connected MATLAB server, a water level tank, a servo pneumatic actuator, a pressure transmitter and two real-time cameras. The established system provides a real-time experience for students by using real instruments accessible on internet. This developed educational tool can be used as a complementary practice for some engineering courses such as sensors and actuators, control systems and industrial automation systems.

In this study, the auto-tuning proportional-integral controller is used to control the speed of a switched reluctance motor. The control algorithm is executed by the programmable logic controller. The proportional integral gains are determined via fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic is executed on a separate computer via MATLAB/Simulink software. The data exchange between the programmable logic controller and MATLAB/Simulink is done with object linking embedding/component for the process. The fuzzy proportional integral control algorithm is compared with the conventional proportional integral controller. We reduced the load on the programmable logic controller via executing fuzzy logic in a separate computer and at the same time eliminated the disadvantages of the conventional proportional-integral controller. With the proposed method, the engine reached the reference speed value in a short time and the overshoots were eliminated in variable conditions such as different load and different speed conditions.

This research proposes a programmable logic controller (PLC) based system that make black salt. In this system, there exists funnels where the salt is supposed to heat up for few hours and gets converted into black salt afterwards. With every funnel, two burners are connected in parallel with different level of intensity. Then there are also temperature sensors in the funnel to sense the temperature and help PLC to maintain a given range of temperature in the funnel. Both burner and sensor are considered to have multi-state with various performance level, from complete failure to perfectly working and both are connected to each other in series. Set of burners and sensors in a funnel together form one subsystem where the system as a whole is considered a k-out-of-n:G type. So, out of n funnels, k are supposed to work at a time, and if there will be any failure in any subsystem the PLC will automatically starts another subsystem to function. The elements are considered to be repairable, and reliability of the proposed system is computed from universal generating function technique. Also, numerical examples are presented to illustrate the model by taking different functioning conditions and the proposed algorithm.

Environmental concerns have been raised in various research and technology developments. Advanced technology plays a crucial role in diverse aspects of environmental discipline such as monitoring, tracking, observing, controlling, and so on. The article aims to propose a system to manage and dispose of solid waste to prevent pollution from the main and sub streets. The controller device named LOGO 230RC is utilised to control the system operations by depending on the control actions which were written in the functional block diagram. The simulation experiments were run using the LOGO Soft Comfort software, in which, based on the three flowcharts, the system work logically. The system objectives have been achieved successfully via testing five baskets' distributions as a suggestion over the street and have been analysed based on the reduced time to transferring the waste from the source to the target. Based on the results, there is a reduction of waste collection time from 4.06% to 17.87% for all five test cases.

In the 21 st century engineering teaching-learning process of interdisciplinary courses like programmable logic controller, there is need to avail the state-of-the-art learning techniques to enhance the student understanding, along with advanced electronic instrumentation which has become affordable to be used for routine academic demonstration. This paper discusses Graphical User Interface platform and related technology to improve the learning with a case study of design projects in engineering under graduate course of programmable logic controller. Some of the representative demonstrations have been reviewed that allow students to program and operate a programmable logic controller through simple interactive tasks. A collaborative demonstration is presented in which students creates a laboratory oriented tasks. After the implementation of these techniques it is found that the learning experience has been improved to a considerable extent.

Research on a basic programming logiccontroller (PLC) kit designing and creation for teaching in the programmable logic controller course here resulted from the recognition on problems related to the lacking of testing kit as a teaching material in the programmable logic controller course of the Electrical Department, Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology. Researchers conducted this research to design and create a basic programming logiccontroller (PLC) kit for teaching in the programmable logic controller course. The sample group in this study was 20 of students from the second year of the Electrical Department. Data analysis was done to retrieve the percentage, average, and standard deviation values, as well as to compare the learning achievement by t-test. It was found from the results that the experts agreed with the quality of a designed and created basic programming logiccontroller (PLC) kit at very high level. Teaching by this basic programming logiccontroller (PLC) kit allowed the group of student samples to have higher learning achievement at the statistically significant level of .05. The group of samples also satisfied with a designed and created basic programming logiccontroller (PLC) kit at highest level.
