A FINITE ELEMENT MODEL FOR NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF THERMO-MECHANICAL FRICTIONAL CONTACT PROBLEMS

Two kinds of variational principles for numerical simulation of heat transfer and contact analyses are respectively presented. A finite element model for numerical simulation of the thermal contact problems is developed with a pressure dependent heat transfer constitutive model across the contact surface. The numerical algorithm for the finite element analysis of the thermomechanical contact problems is thus developed. Numerical examples are computed and the results demonstrate the validity of the model and algorithm developed.

Comparing with two-dimensional contact problems, three-dimensional frictional contact problems are more difficult to deal with, because of the unknown slip direction of the tangential force and enormous computing time. In order to overcome these difficulties, a combined PQP (Parametric Quadratic programming) and iteration method is derived in this paper. The iteration algorithm, which alleviates the difficulty of unknown slip direction, is used along with the PQP method to cut down computing costs. Numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity of the present algorithm.

On the convergence of traffic measurement and queueing analysis: A statistical-matching and queueing (SMAQ) tool

The analytical tool developed in this paper provides a general solution technique for integration of traffic measurement and queueing analysis, The frequency-domain approach is used to combine the advanced techniques in two areas: signal processing and queueing analysis, Essentially, signal processing techniques are used to obtain the steady-state and second-order statistics of a traffic stream. We propose a new programming method far construction of a special class of Markov chains to statistically match with each given traffic stream (or superposition of heterogeneous traffic streams). The analytical queueing solutions can therefore be obtained by the Folding-algorithm based on Markov chain input modeling. Comprehensive numerical examples show the great potential of the statistical-matching and queueing (SMAQ) tool to solve measurement-based traffic management issues.

This paper proposes a programming method for developing autonomous agents that behave intelligently in unpredictable environments, by extending their descriptions to realize larger behavioral repertoires. In our programming method, an agent is described as a concurrent program which updates a finite set of data objects in real time at regular intervals in an object-oriented programming language so that its description can be modular and reusable. The description of an agent specifies its property independent of hardware platforms. The proposed method is suitable for developing an agent difficult to develop based on a top-down approach alone. A Unified Approach for Developing EfficientAlgorithmic Programs

A unified approach called partition-and-recur for developing efficient and correct algorithmic programs is presented. An algorithm (represented by recurrence and initiation) is separated from program, and special attention is paid to algorithm manipulation rather than program calculus. An algorithm is exactly a set of mathematical formulae. It is easier for formal derivation and proof. After getting efficient and correct algorithm, a trivial transformation is used to get a final program. The approach covers several known algorithm design techniques, e.g. dynamic programming, greedy, divide-and-conquer and enumeration, etc. The techniques of partition and recurrence are not new. Partition is a general approach for dealing with complicated objects and is typically used in divide-and-conquer approach. Recurrence is used in algorithm analysis, in developing loop invariants and dynamic programming approach. The main contribution is combining two techniques used in typical algorithm development into a unified and systematic approach to develop general efficient algorithmic programs and presenting a new representation of algorithm that is easier for understanding and demonstrating the correctness and ingenuity of algorithmic programs.

The solution of 3 D elastic-plastic frictional contact problems belongs to the un specified boundary problems where the interaction between two kinds of nonlinearities should occur. Considering the difficulties for the solution of 3 D frictional contact problems, the key part is the determination of the tangential slip states at the contact points, and a great amount of computing work is needed for a high accuracy result. A new method based on a combination of programming and iteration methods, which are respectively known as two main kinds of methods for contact analysis, was put forward to deal with 3 D elastic-plastic contact problems. Numerical results demonstrate the efficiency of the algorithm illustrated here.

With the increased complexity of software and requirement to non-stop feature of services, it's important to establish an effective method for on-line or runtime program updating. For commercial servers, even a short break of service would cause a lot of loss for a company. And, modern complex softwares are so frequently updated for patching security holes or adding new features. To cope with such situation, a new paradigm for easy and effective software maintenance is needed. Many approaches in software engineering for autonomous evolution or growth scheme are proposed. While in the domain of computer hardware or traditional machines, the in-operation replacement of parts - known as "hot swap" - is common. Where a defective module in a complex system can be replaced during its operation. In this research, we will discuss on such "hot swap" method for the software system, as well as the way to divide whole system into basic modules, and to re-organize them. We focused on methods using facilities available on traditional UNIX type operating system, such as dynamic linking or process management. With experiences on prototype routines, we will demonstrate feasibility of such technique which employs a version manager routine included in a simple example application.

User-centric service is wildly adopted in the Cloud environment, but its comprehensible composition is still challenge. On the one hand, intuitive programming perspective is required to hide low-level details with the reasonable abstract;on the other hand, effective guarantee is necessary to verify the application's legality. In this paper, we present a service composition method through multiple user-centric views in which different abstract is provided by orthogonal and orderly views. Domain applications can be synthesized and their consistency is guaranteed coordinately.

Optimization is an integral part of any grinding or finishing operation related to development and design process steps as it is crucial for quality, competence thus to improve design of optimal design of grinding systems with use of mathematical models of external cylindrical grinding with axial feed. The article describes the methodology for designing optimal cycles of control of feeds, resistant to non-stable conditions of workpiece during different grinding stages. Models of formation of radiuses surface on basis of mathematical modelling and experiments with a simultaneous at radial and axial feeds for multi-stages to ensure quality control of designing grinding.
