"C language programming" is a practical course, which aims to cultivate students' ability to solve practical problems with programming thinking. However, there are some problems in the real teaching process, such as less class hours, single evaluation method, students' lack of interest in learning and lack of cultivation of practical ability, so the teaching effect is not so good. This paper analyzes the causes of these problems and gives some reform measures, hoping to provide some references for the improvement of students' practical ability, the development and preferment of C language teaching in colleges and universities.

Learning programming contains several activities, e.g., syntax and semantics of language, program design, comprehension and debugging. Conventional classroom teaching begins with declarative knowledge concepts followed by program writing skills. As a result students attempt to memorize typical program codes instead of writing a fresh code applying the programming concepts. We have applied Program Slicing Technique as a instructional methodology to improve the basic programming skills of the novices. Slicing technique has been widely used in software testing, debugging and software assessment. Results of our study show that slicing technique has helped in improving program understanding and clarification of misconceptions encountered while coding a program. This approach also helps self-learners to gain better programming skills.

C language course is a professional basic course of computer science. Explaining the grammatical structure of knowledge points and cultivating students' ability to solve practical application problems should be paid attention to in the teaching of language courses. It is pervasive in C language teaching that it is difficult for students to judge the correctness of the program in real time and students' logical thinking ability and programming ability is not strong. It is a hard work for the teacher to check every student's code. It leads to that it is difficult to correctly judge the situation of student learning. Thus, C language teaching scheme based on online judge (OJ) system is proposed. In this paper, we design the practice teaching and assessment methods around the OJ system and puts forward resolving methods according to the existing problems in hybrid learning. The OJ system is applied to our C language teaching. The feedback data shows that students' algorithm analysis ability to slove practical application problems and the enthusiasm of learning C language have been significantly improved. And it is more accurate and objective for teachers in the evaluation of students programming ability.

How to train embedded software development talents that can meet the demands of embedded system companies is a very important task to the computer majors of colleges and universities. Some efficacious measures are given in this paper. These measures include infiltrating embedded software developing ideas and knowledge to existed-related computer major courses such as computer operation system, data structure and the principles of computer composition, offering specialized embedded software developing course, studying and researching open source embedded operating system software, and introducing students to participate in embedded software developing course design and application project. Our practical teaching results proved they are very helpful to improve students' embedded software design ability.

Computer scientists and educators have argued that teaching programming skills helps enhance thinking skills and good problem solving aptitude. Learning to program is difficult for many students. Although several factors that affect learning have been identified over the years, we are still far from a full understanding of why some students learn to program easily and quickly while others flounder. This paper addresses this challenge using spoken-tutorials as a collaborative scaffolding tool to develop programming efficacy and evaluation of the students programming abilities. The results of the study show that programming self-efficacy is influenced by prior experience, and the students' mental models of programming influences their self-efficacy, and both the mental model and self-efficacy have a direct effect on overall perfomance of the students. Mastery of programming skills in one these languages also contributed in improved performances in other languages.

Acquisition of programming skills is a key aspect of computer science curricula. Students who have studied in their local language have significant difficulty in acquiring programming skills through English medium instruction. Given the known benefits of local language instruction, one approach to tackle this problem is to record the lectures and provide translated videos to such students. As yet, there is no experimental data on the effect of teaching programming using translated videos, on student achievement. In this paper, we report our findings from a study of three groups of students learning programming by watching 3-hours of video lectures on introductory programming. One group of Hindi medium students watched the videos in English while a similar group watched the corresponding Hindi videos. As a baseline, one group of English medium students watched the English videos. we found that the difference between the three groups on post-test achievement was not significant.

In order to improve the core competence of students majoring in computer, a reform mind of the experiment teaching of programming courses is presented. The breakthrough point of this thought is to create a comprehensive experiment teaching platform based on network. It includes experiment teaching, autonomous learning after class and programming contests. The result shows that the reform mind is effective in teaching and learning because both the teaching method and learning habit are changed. Therefore, the analysis and summary of the effectiveness of the reform are made.

Abstract A survey was conducted in Hertfordshire to provide information about microcomputer use both in school and at home. All schools were found to possess microcomputers but only a limited number of pupils reported using the machines. The extent and type of use was found to be affected by gender, access to a home computer, experience, and competence. The survey included a measure of programming competence and factors that influenced this were investigated. Able programmers were frequently found to be male and to have access to home computers. The results support the hypothesis that analytic decision makers tend to perform better on programming exams than heuristic decision makers. Measuring programming language proficiency

A problem inherent in the teaching of programming languages is determining the most cost-effective way of measuring student knowledge of programming concepts. The primary difficulty is that programming proficiency, like proficiency in a natural language, can be measured in many ways. This paper discusses the measurement of programming language learning by testing students' knowledge of syntax rules, ability to read programs, and ability to write logically correct programs. Different strategies for testing proficiency in these areas are presented and discussed. These strategies vary in terms of their relationship to each other, the ease of designing them, and the difficulty in their *** findings of two empirical studies on programming language learning indicate a direct relationship between ability to read programs and ability to write programs. This finding is important since the measurement of reading ability is shown to require a significantly smaller time investment in evaluating student performance. © Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
