Due to the great variability of asthma symptomatology;the medical teams find practical difficulties in determining the severity of asthma. Asthma is very commonly encounter in daily medical practice. This work objective is to design a system that helps medical teams in determining the severity of asthma. Its use could reduce time, effort and cost of categorizing asthma patient. Asthma severity diagnosis is currently done by an expert person, a doctor. The motivation is to release some burden from medical team by providing them a tool that determines the severity of asthma. One of the partial goals of the work is to model the asthma problem as a fuzzy problem, because many of the symptoms can be interpreted in a fuzzy way for the diagnosis. We model the problem using the RFuzzy framework, a Prolog-based tool for representing and reasoning with fuzzy information. The fact that several researches are being done to determine the level of asthma severity developed motivates us to use a fuzzy tool to try to automatize it. Our approach is not interesting because of our medical knowledge that we have taken from some medical collaborators. The value of our work is that we have found the way of representing in a simple way the knowledge of any asthma expert for classifying automatically the severity of an asthma patient just by collecting some simple numerical data relative to the patient symptoms. Any medical professional with a different criteria for asthma classification can easily modify our system according to his/her knowledge and obtain the corresponding results. This system was developed by the participation of experienced asthma physicians and followed the global initiative for asthma (GINA) guideline.

Mobile app ecosystems have experienced tremendous growth in the last six years. This has triggered research on dynamic analysis of performance, security, and correctness properties of the mobile apps in the ecosystem. Exploration of app execution using automated UI actions has emerged as an important tool for this research. However, existing research has largely developed analysis-specific UI automation techniques, wherein the logic for exploring app execution is intertwined with the logic for analyzing app properties. PUMA is a programmable framework that separates these two concerns. It contains a generic UI automation capability (often called a Monkey) that exposes high-level events for which users can define handlers. These handlers can flexibly direct the Monkey's exploration, and also specify app instrumentation for collecting dynamic state information or for triggering changes in the environment during app execution. Targeted towards operators of app marketplaces, PUMA incorporates mechanisms for scaling dynamic analysis to thousands of apps. We demonstrate the capabilities of PUMA by analyzing seven distinct performance, security, and correctness properties for 3,600 apps downloaded from the Google Play store.

In recent years we have seen rapid development in both frontiers of emerging memory technologies and accelerator architectures. Future memory systems are becoming deeper and more heterogeneous. Adopting NVM and die-stacked DRAM on each HPC node is a new trend of development. On the other hand, GPUs and many-core processors have been widely deployed in today's supercomputers. However, software for programming and managing a system that consists of heterogeneous memories and processors is still in its very early stage of development. How to exploit such deep memory hierarchy and heterogeneous processors with minimal programming effort is an important issue to address. In this paper, we propose Northup, a programming and runtime framework, using a divide-and-conquer approach to map an application efficiently to heterogeneous systems. The proposed solution presents a portable layer that abstracts the system architecture, providing flexibility to support easy integration of new memories and processor nodes. We show that Northup out-of-core execution with SSD is only an average of 17% slower than in-memory processing for the evaluated applications.

The article describes the development of a new open source cross-platform morphological analysis library for the Russian language. The aim of the library is to obtain the original wordforms for the given word or generate the desired wordform according to provided morphological characteristics. The library is designed for using in multi-threaded applications without significant loss of performance and additional data integrity controls which allows integrating it into industrial high-load systems of any kind. The article describes optimization of data structures and processing algorithms when creating a library of morphological analysis written in Java language. Cross-platform morphological analysis library of texts in Russian (JMorfSDK) could be useful for linguists and software developers, for morphological analysis or words generation.

The proliferation of a diverse set of heterogeneous computing platforms in conjunction with the plethora of programming languages and optimization techniques on each language for each un- derlying architecture exacerbate widespread adoption of such platforms. This is especially true for novice programmers and the non-technical-savvy masses that are largely precluded from the advantages of high-performance computing. Moreover, different groups within the heterogeneous computing community (e. g., computer architects, tool developers, and programmers) are presented with new challenges with respect to performance, programmability, and portability (or the three P's) of heterogeneous computing. In this work we discuss such challenges and identify benchmarking techniques based on compu- tation and communication patterns as an appropriate means for the systematic evaluation of het- erogeneous computing with respect to the three P's. Our proposed approach is based on OpenCL implementations of the Berkeley dwarfs. We use our benchmark suite (OpenDwarfs) in char- acterizing performance of state-of-the-art parallel architectures, and as the main component of a methodology (Telescoping Architectures) for identifying trends in future heterogeneous architec- tures. Furthermore, we employ OpenDwarfs in a multi-faceted study on the gaps between the three P's in the context of the modern heterogeneous computing landscape. Our case study spans a variety of compilers, languages, optimizations, and target architectures, including the CPU, GPU, MIC, and FPGA. Based on our insights and extending aspects of prior research (e. g., in com- pilers, programming languages, and auto-tuning), we propose the introduction of grid-based data structures as the basis of programming frameworks and present a prototype unified framework (GLAF) that encompasses a novel visual programming environment with code generation, auto- parallelization, and auto-tuning capabilities. This paper presents the Service Oriented SystemJ (SOSJ) framework, which combines correct-by-construction language features of GALS (Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous) system-level language SystemJ with dynamic reconfiguration features of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), creating a new programming paradigm suitable for designing dynamic distributed manufacturing systems. The paper demonstrates new concepts introduced by SOSJ which enable dynamic online reconfiguration of typical distributed manufacturing systems. Some performance benchmarks are used to showcase the capability of the SOSJ framework.

Graph pattern mining (GPM) is a key building block in diverse applications, including bioinformatics, chemical engineering, social network analysis, recommender systems and security. Existing GPM frameworks either provide high-level interfaces for productivity at the cost of expressiveness or provide expressive low-level interfaces at the cost of increased programming complexity. They also lack the flexibility to explore combinations of optimizations to achieve performance competitive with hand-optimized applications. We present Sandslash, an in-memory graph pattern mining framework that uses a novel programming interface to support productive, expressive, and efficient GPM on large graphs. Sandslash provides a high-level API that only needs a specification of the GPM problem from the user, and the system implements fast subgraph enumeration, provides efficient data structures, and applies high-level optimizations automatically. To achieve performance competitive with expert-optimized implementations, Sandslash also provides a low-level API that allows users to express algorithm-specific optimizations. This enables Sandslash to support both high-productivity and high-efficiency without losing expressiveness. We evaluate Sandslash using five GPM applications and a wide range of real-world graphs. Experimental results demonstrate that applications written using Sandslash's high-level or low-level API outperform those in state-of-the-art GPM systems AutoMine, Pangolin, and Peregrine on average by 13.8x, 7.9x, and 5.4x, respectively. We also show that these Sandslash applications outperform expert-optimized GPM implementations by 2.3x on average with less programming effort.

In software development, the growth of a system or application is proportional to the number of files that make it up. Developers need to invest time to configure their work environments and tools. This means that it is necessary to create scripts or tools that automate the generation of project templates to start with software development. Automating this process allows software developers to save configuration time and focus on creating business logic. In this work we propose the creation of a software tool that allows the creation of project generators, in even shorter times, improving the development experience and with a framework of rules that allow scalability while respecting the integration of all the functionalities that software developer requires. © 2024 IEEE.

An Open-Source, extensible spacecraft simulation and modeling (Open-SESSAME) framework was developed with the aim of providing to researchers the ability to quickly test satellite algorithms while allowing them the ability to view and extend the underlying code. The software is distributed under the GPL (General Public License) and the package’s extensibility allows users to implement their own components into the libraries, investigate new algorithms, or tie in existing software or hardware components for algorithm and flight component testing. This thesis presents the purpose behind the development of the framework, the software design architecture and implementation, and a roadmap of the future for the software package.

As our dependence on intelligent machines continues to grow, so does the demand for more transparent and interpretable models. In addition, the ability to explain the model generally is now the gold standard for building trust and deployment of artificial intelligence systems in critical domains. Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) aims to provide a suite of machine learning techniques that enable human users to understand, appropriately trust, and produce more explainable models. Selecting an appropriate approach for building an XAI-enabled application requires a clear understanding of the core ideas within XAI and the associated programming frameworks. We survey state-of-the-art programming techniques for XAI and present the different phases of XAI in a typical machine learning development process. We classify the various XAI approaches and, using this taxonomy, discuss the key differences among the existing XAI techniques. Furthermore, concrete examples are used to describe these techniques that are mapped to programming frameworks and software toolkits. It is the intention that this survey will help stakeholders in selecting the appropriate approaches, programming frameworks, and software toolkits by comparing them through the lens of the presented taxonomy.
