"Versorgungsforschung Deutschland" (Health Services Research Germany) is a database for health services research projects in Germany which is free, publicly accessible and still growing. The aim is to contribute to the transparency in this research field, to identify best practice models and to facilitate the exchange of research results. All researchers and all institutions which carry out health services research projects are requested to make projects directly known via this internet platform in order to promote the faster implementation of research results into practice.

Design and implementation of oil and gas pool-forming simulation project database based on oilfield database

Most previous oil and gas pool-forming simulation systems running on stand-alone computers cannot maintain the consistency of fundamental data and the sharing abilities of research results. Nowadays, most of key research results have been achieved cooperatively. In combination with the features of oil field database, this paper analyses the oil and gas pool-forming simulation methods and explores multi-layer data modelling technology and multi-type, multi-format data storage management technology. Based on oil database, enterprise data models and data criteria which are applicable to the quantitative analysis of reservoir process are built and used in the quantitative analysis of the process of reservoir. Integrated methods and specifications for project database construction are formed. The oil and gas pool-forming simulation project database (OGPSPD) has characteristics with sharing of intermediate achievements and concurrent simulation process, which accords with the needs of research of oil and gas pool-forming simulation. This paper aims at integrating the pool-forming simulation project database with the oil field database closely and provides a new set of ideas and methods for improving the oil and gas pool-forming simulation level so as to benefit the traditional oil and gas pool-forming simulations to be more effective. Health services research is gaining increasing importance in the field of public health. To present its activities and findings more clearly, the "Clearingstelle Versorgungsforschung NRW" (clearinghouse health services research North Rhine-Westphalia) has set up a database of projects in the field of health services research in North Rhine-Westphalia. This article is evaluating these projects assigning them to specific medical fields, funding resources, methods of data acquisition and key words. In a first step, all institutions and funders in North Rhine-Westphalia acting in the field of health services research have been identified. Those who responded to a standardized questionnaire with a description of their project were included into the database. By the end of May 2008, the project database contained 184 projects. The results demonstrate that health services research activities can be found in all medical fields. Many projects use quantitative as well as qualitative methods. A documentary and secondary data analysis is performed in half of the projects. Concerning the thematic focal point, the present projects show a wide multiplicity. The projects are mainly funded by the ministries of the German Federal Republic, the federal states and the social insurance agencies. In many cases, several institutions are engaged in the funding of one project. The evaluation of health services research projects in North Rhine-Westphalia allows a first insight into health services research activities in Germany. The extension of the database and regular analysis of the research activities are considered desirable.

Construction baseline productivity: Theory and practice

In this paper, the theoretical basis for construction labor productivity measurement is presented. In particular, the theoretical basis for baseline productivity measurements is developed by examining a productivity database consisting of 23 projects involving masonry construction. An important hypothesis is presented showing that as the design becomes more complex, the baseline productivity worsens. It is also hypothesized that higher values of the coefficient of variation indicates a higher variability in management and craft skills and in the use of technology. Two measures are proposed to measure the performance of individual projects: The disruption index and the project management index. These two measures identify the best and worst performing projects. Cumulative probability distributions of the disruption index and the project management index were also developed to evaluate the 23-project database and compare it with other databases. The hypotheses developed from the 23-masonry project database were tested against an 8-project database of concrete formwork and a 12-project database of structural steel erection. Strong support for each hypothesis was found using the two additional databases.

The activities of configuration management and version control are common to a number of engineering tasks. These activities are particularly important for software engineers, since during most of the system lifecycle they have to deal with a growing number of versions of a single component, and to rebuild the complete system in different ways using different components. These tasks are repetitive and trivial, and they require a lot of manual work and accuracy. In this paper, we show how the problem of automating these activities has been solved in a number of software development environments. We describe the evolution of systems for configuration management and version control from simple stand-alone tools, such as make and SCCS (based on an underlying file system), towards more integrated systems based on a project database.

Estimating investments in knowledge and planning activities for adaptation in developing countries: an empirical approach

Costs of adaptation in the developing world have been mostly equated to those of climate proofing infrastructure under the assumption of unconstrained knowledge and planning capacities. To correct this, we introduce a cost-scaling methodology estimating sectoral investments to enhance the knowledge and planning capacities of countries based on an empirical collection of 385 climate-related projects. We estimate that circa 9.2 billion USD are required for financing knowledge and planning activities in developing countries in 2015. The agricultural and water sectors demand the higher investments ? 3.8 and 3.5 billion USD, respectively. Average investments between 2015 and 2050 are projected at 7 billion USD per year ? the largest fraction of which (4 billion) in Africa. Investments in this study were found to constitute approximately 40%, 20?60% and 5?15% of previous cost estimates to climate-proof infrastructure in the agricultural, water, and coastal sectors, respectively. The effort to finance the knowledge and planning capacities in developing countries is therefore not marginal relative to the costs of adapting infrastructure. The findings underline the potential of using empirical collections of climate-related projects for adaptation cost assessments as complementary to process and economic models.

On the basis of investigating the business requirement of municipal infrastructure projects management in Jinan City, we designed the Municipal Infrastructure projects Management and Decision-making Support System. It includes the scheme of the overall system architecture model, data organization and functional design. By the use of ESRI's ComGIS platform and a variety of thematic model components, we realize visualization expediently in the management of municipal infrastructure projects, it also provides spatial analysis and projects evaluation model, which makes management and decision-making of municipal infrastructure projects more scientific, efficient and accurate.

PrefixSpan algorithm will construct huge amount of projected databases in the process of mining sequence patterns, especially mining dense dataset and long sequence pattern, which will cause decline of the performance of the algorithm. The resource problem can be solved by projection position-based Sequential Pattern Mining Algorithm so as to reduce time and storage space. In order to avoid producing huge amount of projected databases and reduce unnecessary storage space and scanning time, compared with the others improved algorithm, the PSPM utilizes projected position to locate projected sequence position for mining local frequency items and deletes the non-frequent items. Experiment results demonstrate that PSPM outperforms the PrefixSpan(with pseudo-pro) algorithm in the aspect of Runtime performance.

Flexible approaches, such as agile, hybrid, and extreme project management methods in the software project environment, are increasingly being used in nonsoftware environments. Nevertheless, only a few methods and no topological, time-related or resource-related indicators or project databases can address projects of a flexible nature. This study proposes a unified matrix-based model (UMP) to consider single-mode, multimode, individual and multiple projects. Based on the UMP, a CMPD is specified to collect 11 existing project databases. In addition, a flexible structure generator (FSG) is proposed to generate flexible tasks and dependencies for analyzing the effects of flexibility on topology and project demand-related indicators. By correlation graphs, the relations between structure-related and demand-related indicators are analyzed. The comparison of the simulated and real-life databases shows that the interpretation range of the indicators is different;however, considering the flexibility, this problem can be resolved.
