The main purpose of the living technology curriculum is to cultivate students' interest in learning science and technology, and further to utilize their experience of learning instructions and develop their ability to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge and skills. In recent years, as countries have begun to emphasize the concept of interdisciplinary integration in the school education, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, STEM) focuses on cultivating interdisciplinary talents. With this, STEAM highlights the role of ART because other dimensions of STEM are expected to be effectively integrated through the cultivation of aesthetics;the purpose of this study is to design a STEAM curriculum for elementary school children and to explore the impact of STEAM education on the creativity. The content of this course is based on the PBL (project-based learning) with the teaching activities combining with "Chinese Paper-cutting" and "BBC micro: bit". The teaching process is used the strategy of creative thinking instruction. The research method adopts a one-group pretest-posttest design based on a purposive sampling of 21 students from one class in an elementary school. The research tools included the records of learning feedback and the creativity assessment. The empirical findings show that the project-based learning incorporating STEAM activity has a positive significant influence on students' development of creative recognition. Since the empirical results are constricted by the short-term STEAM course, the STEAM course with the art-oriented still benefits the STEAM education and learning effectiveness of elementary school students. The implication of interdisciplinary interactive Lamp of Paper Carving with Micro:Bit is expected to contribute to further development of STEAM course. Since the curriculum is only last for few weeks, it is too short to affect the emotional facet of creativity. Future researches are suggested to extend the teaching period

The purpose of this research was to study the impact of project-based learning and information and communication technologies on students' motivation. Two second-year classes in electrical engineering at the University Tahri Mohamed in Bechar, Algeria, were involved in the study. The experiment compared the level to which one class of students mastered goals without the use of information and communication technologies, to the mastery achieved by a second class which participated in a tutorial that has a technological tool built into the project-based approach. The subject of power electronics was chosen for this study because of its different knowledge, which is strongly represented in difficult learning contents for students. A questionnaire about motivation was used to collect data within an experimental research plan. After three months of conducting the study, the results demonstrated that the integration of the tutorial with the project-based approach is likely to increase students' motivation to learn and to master the subject of power electronics.

The aim of this work is to present a proposal for project-based learning applied to an embedded systems course. The proposal involves projects associated with the area of control and automation, in which the student develops solutions in embedded systems with microcontrollers. The projects envisage the development of closed-loop control techniques for various types of dynamic system. The proposed method was applied during four semesters (2012.1, 2012.2, 2013.1, and 2013.2) in the Digital Systems course of the Computer Engineering programme at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The results of opinion surveys conducted with the students during the four semesters are presented in order to validate the proposed project-based learning method. Full details of implementation of the method are also provided in order to assist others involved in teaching similar academic programmes.

In most professions, the value of soft skills has been recognized and many companies make decisions on employment and performance assessment based in part on the soft skills of workers. project-based learning (PjBL), in its nature as a pedagogical method, has the capability of harnessing the potential of students in soft skills. The purpose of this study was to develop a PjBL conceptual framework for integrating soft skills among students of technical colleges. The population goal for the study was made up of 372 technical teachers from 22 government technical colleges across the sample area. Considering the heterogeneous complexity of the population from which the survey is extracted, the stratified technique of random sampling was used to choose the 295 participants for the study. Through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) models the chi-square values, modification indices, and standardized estimates were developed using Analysis Moment of Structures (AMOS). Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to check the model & x2019;s causal relationship by the application of AMOS version 20. The study findings revealed PjBL preparation (planning), application, commitment, and assessment techniques each to have a positive significant impact on soft skill improvement among students of technical colleges. On the other hand, the study found that facilitation in project-based learning has a significant yet negative relation to integrating soft skills among students at the technical colleges. Interestingly, the outcome of this research suggests that PjBL in technical colleges will have a substantial positive impact on the integration of soft skills among the students. based on the finding of the study, the government should provide adequate facilities for appropriate PjBL activities to enhance the integration of soft skills. Technical teachers should employ the PjBL identified elements in the teaching and learning of at technical colleges for effective incorporation of soft

With embedded systems becoming ubiquitous, there is a growing need to teach and train engineers to be well-versed in their design and development. The multidisciplinary nature of such systems makes it challenging to give students exposure to and experience in all their facets. This paper proposes a generic architecture, containing multiple processors, that allows easy integration of custom and/or predefined peripherals. The architecture allows students to explore both the hardware and software issues associated with real-time and embedded systems. Furthermore, the architecture can be extended to train students in advanced concepts in embedded multiprocessor systems. This generic architecture has been used for two courses at the National University of Singapore-one on real-time embedded systems and the other emphasizing the hardware aspects of embedded systems. The project in the real-time embedded systems course has students develop a five-a-side soccer system on multiple field-programmable gate array (FPGA) boards using embedded processors. In the embedded hardware design course project, students use an embedded processor-based system to perform decryption of a block encrypted image, accelerated through a custom co-processor. The use of displays gives students a visual/interactive experience and a sense of accomplishment, while reinforcing the theoretical concepts. Both qualitative and quantitative assessment results are presented, showing how students perceived these projects and met the learning objectives.

Before the pandemic, distance learning was not a widely adopted option for science and engineering programs where in some courses, such as chemistry, electromagnetism, or fluid mechanics, etc., attending to laboratories and workshops was in most cases mandatory. The lockdown forced us to innovate, searching alternative ways to teach experimental phenomena, suddenly replaced with simulation science and technology, subjects that although rely on computers, also suffered changes from the transition. In this contribution, we propose an undergraduate course on simulation for chemical engineering, departing from the fact that modeling, and simulation are multipurpose and multidisciplinary tools. The course aims to reinforce the concepts of dynamical systems by using analogies between process engineering examples and other disciplines, particularly, epidemiology. For this purpose, a final project on modeling the dynamics of the COVID 19 pandemic in Mexico was designed and validated with a public database from the Mexican Secretariat of Health. By doing this, the students got in touch with the evolution of the dynamics outside of school hours, since it was common to see weekly updates and extrapolation trends of the pandemic, thus applying their skills to the final project. It was found that success factors were the use of official data, the use of Graphical User Interfaces to explore diverse simulation scenarios and the final project. The transition to the Distance learning faced several challenges that were partially coped with the redesign of the course.

This study presents a project-based learning methodology whose particularity is the inclusion of training at different levels of undergraduate engineering programs, which allows for the interaction among students from different semesters who work together on a common project. To show the applicability of the proposed methodology, a project for the industrial production of ethanol from sugar cane was considered. Students enrolled in Process Design (9th semester) and Computer-Assisted Technical Design (5th semester), courses included in the engineering programs offered by the Department of Chemical Engineering at Yachay Tech University (Ecuador), jointly developed it. The details of the project were presented to the students of the Introduction to Engineering course (3rd semester) to boost their interest in the engineering as applied science. The activities carried out in each of the courses are described in detail together with a description of how the learning outcomes were achieved thanks to the implementation of a multi-level training strategy. Teamwork and collaborative-integrated learning are the elements highlighted by the students who participated in the project. Some of the innovative aspects of the proposed methodology include professional training and multi-level learning, the development of logical thinking typical of engineers, the knowledge handover associated with the professional activities of process engineers engaged with real-world projects. Additionally, this methodology prizes the industrial experience that professors at the undergraduate level may have by allowing them to contribute with an engineering vision to the training of young people in engineering projects. This study was inspired by the principle of Constructive Alignment and by goal # 4 (quality education) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. (C) 2020 Institution of Chemical Engineers. This research presents the application of project-based learning at the School of Engineering of the Catholic University of the North. Three projects were presented to students of different levels of Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering degree in four undergraduate courses. The innovation in the application of the method is to create transversal work groups to develop multidisciplinary and challenging projects. The planning between courses allowed integrate knowledge, experiences and interests of the various team members. These projects were organized into the following 4 stages;conception, design, implementation and operation. Finally, educational assessment of the impact of project-based learning methodology was confronted with the method of cooperative learning. The principal advantage of PBL is obtaining better skills and competences developed by students.

The paper describes an ongoing study based on the mandatory "Sanitary Engineering Basic Course" that was taught for third year environmental engineering students at the University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway (NTNU) in the spring semesters of 1997, 1998 and 1999. The focus is on teaching and learning methodology (i.e, traditional individual frontal lecture-based versus project-based in groups). Experience shows that project-based learning (PBL) is a suitable teaching method. PBL challenges the students to stay active throughout the semester and thus results in higher learning efficiency. Simultaneously, both students and teachers need to use more time. Technical skills ("design calculations") were not improved, but students clearly developed project management skills (communication, organisation, group work. etc.).

The use of integrated Computer Aided Design/Engineering (CAD/CAE) software capable of analyzing mechanical devices in a single parametric environment is becoming an industrial standard. Potential advantages over traditional enduring multi-software design routines can be outlined into time/cost reduction and easier modeling procedures. To meet industrial requirements, the engineering education is constantly revising the courses programs to include the training of modern advanced virtual prototyping technologies. Within this scenario, the present work describes the CAD/CAE project-based learning (PjBL) activity developed at the University of Genova as a part of course named Design of Automatic Machines, taught at the second level degree in mechanical engineering. The PjBL activity provides a detailed overview of an integrated design environment (i.e. PTC Creo). The students, divided into small work groups, interactively gain experience with the tool via the solution of an industrial design problem, provided by an engineer from industry. The considered case study consists of an automatic pushing device implemented in a commercial machine. Starting from a sub-optimal solution, the students, supervised by the lecturers, solve a series of sequential design steps involving both motion and structural analysis. The paper describes each design phase and summarizes the numerical outputs. At last, the results of the PjBL activity are presented and commented by considering the opinions of all the parties involved.
