The authors propose a parametrized gradient projection algorithm for solving large-scale problems, and in particular discrete optimal control problems with linear constraints. They present numerical results concerning the sequential implementation of the algorithm both with nonadaptive and adaptive rules for the choice of the parametrizing sequence, and the parallel implementations of the various primitives used by the parametrized algorithm are discussed. It is shown that an adaptive choice of parameters results in a considerable decrease in the number of iterations required to reach a predetermined solution neighborhood, and that the algorithm can be implemented in parallel resulting in a further decrease in computational time.< >

Fast affine projection (FAP) algorithm is widely used recently for its NLMS like computational complexity and RLS like convergence rate. The regularization parameter in the FAP algorithm is used to guarantee a well behaved inverse of the covariance matrix, and it plays an important role in the performance of the FAP algorithm. However, the fixed value of the regularization parameter in the conventional FAP algorithm degrades the performance of the system when the signal and the acoustic environment have noticeable variations. In this paper, an efficient method is proposed to adjust the regularization parameter. Compared to the direct adjusting methods, it costs less computational burden and can be activated more frequently according to different signal and environment status

This paper proposes a rapid method to accomplish text images correction from slant ones. In the method, the well-known projection algorithm is presented as basic principle. In traditional projection algorithm, the huge calculation for rotation leads to a slow processing speed. This improved method mainly targets at solving computational speed problem arising from projection algorithm, and this could be achieved by avoiding rotation calculation. The advantage of this algorithm lies in its manifest improvement on processing speed and a decrease in the requirement of text image integrality. When processing a large quantity of slant text image, the advantage is more obvious. The method could be applied for the real-time slant correction effectively and efficiently, although its fundamental principle is simple.

Recent developments in PET scanners such as the HRRT (High Resolution Research Tomograph) developed by Siemens greatly enhanced their resolution as well as sensitivity, but they increased coincidence lines of response more than 4.5 times 10 generated by as many nuclear detectors as 120,000. This formidable amount of data poses a real problem in the image reconstruction and its applications. It also has been the major bottleneck in further developments of the higher resolution PET scanners. To remedy this problem in the image reconstruction, we developed a new algorithm based on the SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) technique incorporated with the symmetry properties of the projection and backprojection processes, especially in the 3D OSEM algorithm. We refer to this technique as the SSP (Symmetry and SIMD based projection-backprojection) algorithm. As a demonstration, the algorithm was applied to the OSEM (Ordered Subset Expectation Maximization) 3D algorithm with HRRT data and it effectively reduced the total image reconstruction time to 80 folds.

In the Fast Factorized Back projection Algorithm [1], the 2D interpolation in the image domain is an essential procedure to obtain a fine resolution image which is achieved point by point. The computational burden is intensive [2]. This paper presents a modified FFBPA for the spotlight SAR imaging. In this algorithm, the coarse sub-images obtained by back projecting the sub-aperture signals to the imaging grids in local polar coordinates are corrected by the shift in the range dimension and the rotation in the angle dimension. And then the sub-images are fused to synthesize the high resolution image. The method is convenient and efficient in practical operation.

In many applications with highly correlated input signals, the affine projection (AP) adaptive filter has good performance. However it is often too complex to implement in real time. In this paper, we describe an efficient implementation technique for the AP adaptive filter. For this technique, we derive the subband affine projection algorithm from the orthogonal analysis filter bank. And we apply the pipelining technique to the the derived subband adaptive filter for high processing speed.

Recent researches have indicated the viability of path-based algorithms for traffic assignment problem and much attention has been received by gradient projection (GP) algorithm. However, the GP algorithm experiences problems near optimal point when trying to obtain high accurate results. To improve its performance near optimal point, this study employs bisection method to find the Curry's steplength of each iteration as so to achieve that goal. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the advantage of the GP algorithm using Curry's steplength.

In this paper, we address the multilinear system identification problem in the framework of multiple-input single-output (MISO) systems. The large parameter space of such systems can be reshaped into a tensorial form. In this context, the affine projection algorithm (APA) is an appealing solution, especially with correlated input signals. The recently developed tensor-based APA (APA-T) combines the solutions provided by the individual (shorter) filters, thus reformulating a high-dimension system identification problem based on low-dimension problems. Following the development of the APA-T, we propose in this paper an improved version of this algorithm, where different projection orders are used for the individual filters. This approach leads to a better compromise between performance and complexity.

This paper proposes a new subband echo canceller that almost fully whitens the received input by using the low-order projection algorithm, or the affine projection algorithm. Since the projection algorithm can fully whiten the received input of a small-tap adaptive filter with a relatively small projection order, the proposed subband projection echo canceller achieves nearly maximum convergence with a small projection order. By reflecting the frequency characteristics of the speech and of the echo path, it allows a different projection order to be chosen in different subbands. This gives the proposed method optimum cost performance, which is promising for implementation.

A simplified energy projection algorithm for isometric volume rendering is proposed in this paper. Compared with other methods, the proposed algorithm can be largely table-driven, which makes it faster and easier to implement. A method for generating an optimal transfer function, which could be used to specify some particular rendering parameters, is provided. Also, an efficient method for building the energy footprint lookup table is provided, and three important parameters (projection kernel, kernel width and footprint table size) are examined.
