The reuse of past coefficient vectors of the NLMS for reducing the steady-state MSD in a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was proposed recently. Its convergence analysis has not been studied yet, so we first derive a steady-state analysis for the NLMS with reusing coefficient vectors for a special case. In addition, this approach slows down the convergence speed while decreasing the steady-state MSD in proportion to the number of reusing coefficient vectors. To address this trade-off, we propose a novel NLMS algorithm which can change the reusing order to achieve both fast convergence speed and low steady-state MSD. The reusing order is decreased or increased by comparing the squared output error with a threshold. The experimental results show that the theoretical results match well with simulation results and the proposed algorithm has fast convergence speed and small steady-state MSD compared to the conventional NLMS.

This paper presents a multiphase image segmentation model based on Fuzzy Region Competition. The proposed model approximates image regions by probability density functions and uses a supervised approach in the segmentation process. The strategy of the proposed model is to perform two-phase Fuzzy Region Competition model several times, where a hard partition is obtained in each round from the determined fuzzy membership function. Consequently, the segmentation process is soft, while the final result is hard, given the simplicity of avoiding non-overlapping and vacuum regions. The proposed model was validated using multiphase images, which showed to be robust under the presence of noise and presented good accuracy when dealing with texturized and natural images.

In this paper, we propose an acceleration technique of the adaptive filtering scheme called adaptive proximal forward-backward splitting method. For accelerating the convergence rate, the proposed method includes a step to shift the current estimate in the direction of the difference between the current and previous estimates based on the Fast Iterative Shrinkage/Thresholding Algorithm (FISTA). The computational complexity for this additional step is fairly low compared to the overall complexity of the algorithm. As an example of the proposed method, we derive an acceleration of the composition of the Adaptively Weighted Soft-Thresholding (AWST) operator and the exponentially weighted adaptive parallel projection. AWST shrinks the estimated filter coefficients to zero for exploiting the sparsity of the system to be estimated and the exponentially weighted adaptive parallel projection algorithm realizes high accuracy by utilizing all available information at each iteration. This accelerated method improves the steady-state mismatch drastically with its convergence speed as fast as the proportionate affine projection algorithm.

In this paper, an adaptive TSK-fuzzy rotor resistance observer (ATFRO) is proposed and embedded into the induction motor vector control system. The proposed observer consists of adaptive rotor resistance observer, TSK-fuzzy control (TSKFC), and projection algorithm (PA). The estimated rotor resistance value enters into the adaptive pseudo-reduced-order flux observer (APRO) to decrease sensitivity to the rotor resistance. The simulation results show that the TSK-fuzzy control outperforms PI control in adaptation capability for rotor resistance estimation structure. The experimental results proved that the ATFRO estimates rotor resistance accurately in practical IM system.

A electronic image stabilizing method for omni-directional camera system is put forward in this paper. The omni-directional camera system has an advantage of nearly 360 degree camera angle. Due to the fact that omnidirectional image sequence can not be observed easily, we first translate the omni-directional image sequence into the objective original image sequence and then study image stabilization. The omni-directional image unrolling algorithm and image stabilizing method are analyzed in depth in this paper. Based on gray projection algorithm, image stabilizing method in omni-directional camera system is proposed. The hardware of the system is composed of omni-directional devices, CCD, image acquisition card and computer and the software program (DirectShow platform via VC++). Experiment results indicate that it is a practical method to realize electronic image stabilization in omnidirectional camera system. Meanwhile it is a method characterized by high speed and accuracy as well.

Data Distribution Management (DDM) is one of the High Level Architecture (HLA) services that reduce message traffic over the network. The major purpose of the DDM is to filter the exchange of data between federates during a federation. However, this traffic reduction usually suffers from higher computational overhead when calculating the intersection between update regions and subscription regions in a matching process. In order to reduce the computational overhead for the matching process, this paper proposes a binary partition-based matching algorithm for DDM in the HLA-based distributed simulation. The new matching algorithm is fundamentally based on a divide-and-conquer approach. The proposed algorithm recursively performs binary partitioning which divides the regions into two partitions that entirely cover those regions. This approach promises low computational overhead, since it does not require unnecessary comparisons within regions in different partitions. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs better than the existing DDM matching algorithms and improves the scalability of the DDM.

This paper studies the adaptive tracking control for systems with quantized output observations and one unknown parameter. A projection algorithm is proposed for parameter identification, based on which an adaptive control law is designed via the certainty equivalence principle. By use of the conditional expectation of the quantized observation with respect to the estimates, it is shown that the identification algorithm is both almost surely and mean square convergent, the closed-loop system is stable, and the adaptive tracking control is asymptotically optimal.

A long standing problem in adaptive control is the derivation of robustness properties in the presence of unmodeled dynamics, a necessary and highly desirable property for designing adaptive flight control for systems with trustable autonomy. We provide a solution to this problem in this paper for linear time-invariant plants whose states are accessible for measurement. This is accomplished by using a Lipschitz continuous projection algorithm that allows the utilization of properties of a linear system when the adaptive parameter lies on the projection boundary. This in turn helps remove the restriction on plant initial conditions, as opposed to the currently existing proofs of semi-global stability. A direct implication of this result is the robustness of adaptive control systems to time-delays, and the guarantee that the underlying adaptive system will have a delay margin.

In this paper, we propose novel low-complexity adaptive channel estimation techniques for mobile wireless channels in presence of Rayleigh fading, carrier frequency offsets (CFO) and random channel variations. We show that the selective partial update of the estimated channel tap-weight vector offers a better tradeoff between the performance and computational complexity, compared to the full update of the estimated channel tap-weight vector. We demonstrate the usefulness of proposed methods via simulation studies.

Solving a Constrained Optimization Problem (COP) is much more challenging than its unconstrained counterpart. In solving COPs, the feasibility of a solution is a prime condition that requires the conversion of one or more infeasible individuals to feasible individuals. In this paper, to encourage the effective movement of infeasible individuals towards a feasible region, we introduce a Constraint Consensus (CC) method within the Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm for solving COPs. The algorithm has been tested by solving 13 well-known benchmark problems. The experimental results show that the solutions are competitive, if not better, as compared to the state of the art algorithms.
