This paper presents repetitive control laws in real time using matched basis functions. These laws adjust the command given a feedback control system in order to eliminate tracking errors, resulting from in general a periodic disturbance and a non-periodic disturbance. The periodic error can be reduced by linear basis functions while the non-periodic error by the projection algorithm along with the wavelet filtering. The control laws do not use a system model, but instead the control action is chosen to be a linear combination of chosen input basis functions, and the corresponding output basis functions are obtained, nominally by experiment. The repetitive control laws use the projection algorithm to compute the output components on the output basis functions, and then the corresponding input components are adjusted accordingly. The output signals are reconstructed via the wavelet filtering before they are feedback to the controller. Numerical experiments show that the repetitive controllers are quite effective. In particular, the output tracking errors are further reduced because of the introduction of the wavelet filtering when compared to the previous work. In general, the repetitive control laws developed here can be used for the purpose of precision machinery control.

Identification of planted (Z, d)-motifs is an important and hard challenging problem in computational biology. In this paper, we present an original algorithm that combines genetic algorithm (GA) and random projection strategy (RPS) GARPS to identify (I, d)-motifs. We start with RPS to find good starting positions by introducing position-weight function and constructing a new hash function based on the function and return a set of candidate motifs. Then, we use the results(good candidate motifs) from RPS as the initial population of genetic algorithm to make series of iterations to refine motif candidates. We use the global search capability of GA and RPS are explored in GARPS. Experimental results on simulated data show that GARPS performs better than the projection algorithm and solves the most of challenging planted motif finding problems and improves finding faint motifs.

In this paper the concepts of selective partial updates (SPU) and selective regressors (SR) in the affine projection (AP) adaptive filtering algorithm are combined and the family of affine projection algorithms with SPU and SR features are established. These algorithms are computationally efficient. We demonstrate the performance of the presented algorithms through simulations.

We consider constrained minimization of a sum of convex functions over a convex and compact set, when each component function is known only to a specific agent in a time-varying peer to peer network. We study an iterative optimization algorithm in which each agent obtains a weighted average of its own iterate with the iterates of its neighbors, updates the average using the subgradient of its local function and then projects onto the constraint set to generate the new iterate. We obtain error bounds on the limit of the function value when a constant stepsize is used.

In this paper, we propose a new multichannel filtered-x affine projection algorithm based on dichotomous coordinate descent (DCD) iterations for active noise control (ANC) systems. It includes a fast recursive filtering procedure with the filter update incorporated in the DCD iterations. It is shown that the proposed algorithm has a lower complexity, and superior convergence properties than the multichannel filtered-x LMS algorithm. Also, it compares favorably to a previously published DCD based algorithm for ANC systems.

DM642 is a DSP chip launched by TI Company specifically for image processing. Based on the C64X series chips, it appends a number of peripheral equipments and interface ports, which make DM642 more suitable to process video code-streams. The paper introduces the SEED's DM642 development platform and the structure and performance related to video encoding and decoding, and achieves the gray-scale projection algorithm with electronic image stabilization function on this development platform.

A new affine projection (AP) algorithm based on dichotomous coordinate descent (DCD) iterations has been recently proposed for acoustic echo cancellation (AEC). It uses a constant step size parameter and, therefore, has to compromise between fast convergence and tracking on the one hand, and low misadjustment and robustness to the presence and variations of a near-end signal on the other hand. In this paper we propose a variable step-size (VSS) version of the DCD-AP algorithm (VSS-DCD-AP) that does not require any a priori information about the acoustic environment. It is shown that the new algorithm is robust against near-end signal variations, including double-talk (DT).

The recently proposed normalized least mean squares algorithm reuses estimated past coefficient vectors for the finite impulse response model and effectively reduces the misadjustment. The affine projection algorithm, which is an extension of the normalized least mean squares algorithm, generally suffers from relatively high misadjustment in the steady state. To decrease the misadjustment, we adopt the method of reusing the past coefficient vectors for the normalized least mean squares algorithm to the affine projection algorithm. Through computer simulations, we show the effect and performance of the affine projection algorithm which uses the coefficient vector reusing.

This paper proposes an affine projection algorithm (APA) using the inner product between input vectors. The existing APAs have fast convergence rate but large steady-state estimation errors. In order to reduce the estimation errors, the proposed algorithm adjusts the number of the input vectors by grouping of the input vectors. The grouping process uses the angle between a current input vector and past input vectors. The proposed algorithm puts the input vectors with a similar angle size into the same group and replaces input vectors in the group with the representative input vector. The angle interval for the grouping adjusts the number of groups and is gradually increasing to reduce the number of input vector at the steady state. This leads to reduce the steady-state estimation errors. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has small steady-state estimation errors comparing to the existing algorithms.

In order to take advantage of adaptive transmission techniques or multiple antennas, it is necessary to have actual channel state information (CSI) at transmitter and/or receiver. Due to system constraints and the time varying nature of the mobile radio channel, the CSI might be outdated, leading to performance degradation of the system. Channel prediction can provide up-to-date channel state information and reduce capacity loss. This paper presents a channel predictor based on the set-membership affine projection filtering involving an OFDM system. Realistic physical channel model used for standardization is considered to evaluate the performance of the predictor and compare it to well-known adaptive algorithms NLMS and RLS. Simulation results also show the bit-error rate performance and the robustness of the proposed predictor under the specifications of 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE).
