We have performed a clinical study on the characterization of body fluids with the spectral ρZ projection algorithm. It converts dual-energy CT scans into density ρ and atomic number Z information. We provide data on a total of 56 samples of 6 different classes. Blood, gall, pus and urine, as well as mixtures of blood + pus and blood + ethylendiamintetra acetate (EDTA, a blood anti-coagulant) have been investigated. For standard measurements with 80 kV and 140 kV tube voltages we encounter larger overlaps of the HU attenuation values. Gall fluid and pus are the only distinguishable substances. For the ρZ projected image data, we find blood, pus and the blood + pus mixtures to be clearly distinguishable in the two-dimensional ρZ plane. Gall fluid shows a small overlap to pus. The density and the atomic number values have standard deviations in the order of Δρ = 10 mg/cm 3 and ΔZ = 0.1. The theoretical density and atomic number values for blood and water are reproduced with very small deviations in the range of Δρ = -20 mg/cm 3 and ΔZ = 0.02.

This paper introduces a space-time decision feedback equalizer whose coefficients are recursively renewed on the basis of the modified affine projection algorithm (APA). Despite its effectiveness against the rank deficiency problem, the complexity of the conventional APA utilizing the sample matrix inversion (SMI) is considerable. Furthermore, the shift invariance property could not be exploited in the case of the space-time decision directed equalizer (STDE) application. To overcome such challenges, this paper introduces an APA employing hyperplane projection scheme reducing the computational complexity without any degradation of convergence characteristic and tracking capability. The performance of the proposed equalization methodology is verified by showing its superior bit error rate (BER) behaviors via performing adaptive STDE under single-input-multiple-output (SIMO) wireless multipath fading channel

In this paper, a reduced complexity adaptive decision feedback equalization approach based on affine projection algorithm (APA) is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) time-varying frequency selective channels. Computational complexities of APA-based adaptive decision feedback equalization (AP-DFE), least mean-squares (LMS-DFE) and recursive least squares (RLS-DFE) algorithms are compared. The proposed technique provides fast convergence speed and low computational complexity. Simulation results show that AP-DFE adaptive equalization algorithm outperforms LMS-DFE algorithm and can obtain significant computation saving over RLS-DFE algorithm with approximately the same BER performance.

The paper provides an analysis of the transient and the steady-state behavior of a filtered-x partial error affine projection algorithm suitable for multichannel active noise control. The analysis relies on energy conservation arguments, it does not apply the independence theory nor does it impose any restriction to the signal distributions. The paper shows that the partial error filtered-x affine projection algorithm in presence of stationary input signals converges to a cyclostationary process, I.e., the mean value of the coefficient vector, the mean-square-error and the mean-square-deviation tend to periodic functions of the sample time.

In applications with highly correlated inputs or long length of filter, adaptive filters suffer from slow convergence and large steady-state error. Affine projection algorithms based on the subband structure and step size controlling are good solutions for these problems. In this paper, we propose a new subband affine projection algorithm with variable step size. Experimental results on highly correlated inputs produce faster convergence, lower misadjustment error, and smaller complexity than conventional methods based on the fullband structure

Affine projection algorithm, which updates the weight vector based on several previous input vectors, is an useful adaptive filter to improve the convergence speed of LMS-type filter. However, the computational complexity of adaptation algorithm highly depends on the number of input vectors used for update. In this paper, we propose affine projection algorithm with selective regressors whose purpose is to reduce complexity by selecting a subset of input regressors at every iteration. The optimal selection of input regressors is derived by comparing the cost functions based on the principle of minimum disturbance. The new algorithms show good convergence performance as attested to by various experimental results

A variable regularized affine projection algorithm (VR-APA) is introduced, which does not require the classical step size. Its use is supported from different points of view. First, it has the property of being H infin optimal, providing robust behavior against perturbations and model uncertainties. Second, the time varying regularization parameter is obtained by maximizing the speed of convergence of the algorithm. At each time step, it needs knowledge of the power of the estimation error vector, which can be estimated by averaging observable quantities. Although we first derive it for a linear time invariant (LTI) system, we show that the same expression holds if we consider a time varying system following a first order Markov model. Simulation results are presented to test the performance of the proposed algorithm and to compare it with other schemes under different situations

Bistatic radar, spatially separated between the transmitter and receiver, has recently been an interesting research hotspot. As geometry configurations of bistatic SAR can be flexible, its slant range is more complicated than the monostatic SAR case. Furthermore, in the spotlight-mode, the angle between the transmitter/receiver platform and the scenes center is higher than the strip-mode case. Hence, range migration in spotlight-mode BiSAR is more severe than the strip-mode BiSAR case. Solving Range migration problem is key step to develop the spotlight-mode BiSAR imaging formation. In this paper, we derive the dechirp formula of bistatic SAR, as range compression is usually implemented by dechirped method in spotlight SAR. Then we establish the BiSAR echoes model and analyze the principle of back projection algorithm. By analyzing the principle of back projection algorithm, we can see that back projection algorithm is adapt to general aperture configure, and compensating for range migration easily in the time domain. Under the condition of the different bistatic angles, we give the simulation results to validate that impulse response of point target is compressed well by the back projection algorithm

It has been proven that adaptive nonlinear predistorters based on direct adaptation have many advantages over ones based on indirect adaptation. In this work, we develop two affine projection based direct adaptation algorithms for adaptive nonlinear predistorter: nonlinear filtered-x affine projection algorithm and nonlinear adjoint affine projection algorithm. Compared with available least mean square (LMS) based direct adaptation predistorters, predistorters based the new developed algorithms have the advantages fast convergence and efficient computational complexity. The nonlinear adjoint affine projection algorithm is computationally more efficient than the nonlinear filtered-x affine projection algorithm. Simulation results confirm the better performance of our developed algorithms.
