Automatic modulation recognition for CPM

This paper uses detection and estimation theory techniques for automatic modulation recognition of CPM signals. The CPM signals of interest are PCM/FM, SOQPSK-TG, and ARTM/CPM. The modulation recognition problem is formulated as a hypothesis test with the test statistic computed using samples of the observed signal. Using such techniques, simulation results show that correct modulation can be achieved error free at a carrier-to-noise ratio of 19 dB for PCM/FM, 50 dB for SOQPSK-TG, and 25 dB for ARTM CPM. © International Foundation for Telemetering, 2016.

PCM serial code maybe transferred without bit and byte synchronization. A PCM decoding method by self-synchronizing is given for this instance. The decoding process includes bit synchronizing using PCM serial code received, bit shifting and byte recognizing by given data frame. The VHDL is used to accomplish the method. The improved method is put forward by analyzing the possible error brought by the method aforementioned. © 2010 IEEE.

We propose that by using unmatched decoding for alternating codes, estimates of the autocorrelation function of the backscatter can be estimated at ranges between those resolved by matched filtering. The number of additional correlation estimates obtained in this way is twice that obtained using matched filtering, although each estimate contributes with only a quarter of the power in comparison. This leads to improvements in code performance by a factor of 1.5, and an increase in the speed of incoherent scatter radar experiments by the same factor.

The response of personal exposimeters (PEMs) is studied under diffuse field exposure in indoor environments. A numerical model and a setup for on-body calibration measurements in a reverberation chamber (RC) is proposed for 897-5500 MHz. The proposed numerical simulations are in good agreement with measurements. A difference around 2 dB between their 50% prediction intervals is observed.

Experimental investigation and numerical comparison of the performance of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell at different channel geometry

In this study, the performance of a PEM fuel cell is investigated experimentally and numerically by changing the geometry of the channels. At first an experimental setup is used and three different fuel cells with rectangular, elliptical and triangular serpentine channels are constructed. The active area of each cell is 25 cm(2) that its weight is 1,300 g. The material of the gas diffusion layer is carbon clothes, the membrane is nafion 117 and the catalyst layer is a plane with 0.004 g cm(-2) platinum. Then a complete three-dimensional model for fuel cell is used to investigate the effect of using this channels geometry on the performance. The proposed model is a full cell model, which includes all the parts of the PEM fuel cell, flow channels, gas diffusion electrodes, catalyst layers and the membrane. Coupled transport and electrochemical kinetics equations are solved in a single domain;therefore no interfacial boundary condition is required at the internal boundaries between cell components. The results show that the predicted polarization curves by using this model are in good agreement with the experimental results. Also the results show that when the geometry of channel is rectangular the performance of the cell is better than the triangular and elliptical channel.

As an emerging memory technology to build the future main memory systems, Phase Change Memory (PCM) can increase memory capacity in a cost-effective and power-efficient way. However, PCM is facing security threats for its limited write endurance: a malicious adversary could wear out the cells and cause the whole PCM system to fail within a short period of time. To address this issue, several wear-leveling schemes have been proposed to evenly distribute write traffic in a security-aware manner. In this work, we present a new type of timing attack named Remapping Timing Attack (RTA), based on the asymmetry in write time of PCM. Our analysis and experimental results show that the new revealed RTA can make two state-of-the-art wear-leveling schemes (Region Based Start-Gap and Security Refresh) lose effectiveness, failing PCM with these two techniques in several days (even minutes). In order to defend such attack, we further propose a novel wear-leveling scheme called Security Region Based Start-Gap (Security RBSG), which employs a two-stage strategy and uses a dynamic Feistel Network to enhance the simple Start-Gap wear leveling with level-adjustable security assurance. The theoretical analysis and evaluation results show that the proposed Security RBSG is the most robust wear-leveling methodology so far, which not only better defends the new RTA, but also performs well on the traditional malicious attacks, i.e., Repeated Address Attack and Birthday Paradox Attack.

Overview Bottom-contact (BC) organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), though more industry-relevant than top-contact (TC) OFETs, are prone to low source-drain currents. The underlying mechanisms behind this remain debated. Thus, our work uses photocurrent microscopy (PCM) to examine charge injection in BC and TC geometries. PCM maps were generated first for OFETs with no electrode or gate dielectric treatments. Potential plots were quantitatively derived from the results using a method from previous work. [1] PCM maps were then collected for devices treated with 1. pentafluorobenzenethiol (PFBT), known to improve semiconductor morphology [2], and 2. UV-ozone, which is thought to enhance trap-assisted carrier transport. [3] These treatments were chosen, because they significantly increase source-drain current in BC devices, but in vastly different ways. In addition, unlike other photocurrent studies, we used a range of illumination wavelengths so as to probe various exciton states.

Novel device structure for phase change memory toward low-current operation

We present a novel device architecture for low set and reset currents in phase change random access memory (PCRAM). In this structure, the sidewall of phase-change film is contacted with the vertical heating layer. In particular, to realize a small contact area of under 50 nm(2) for low reset current, this structure includes stacked layers consisting of extremely thin phase change material (PCM) and conduction films, the fabrication method of which is proposed. We estimated set and reset currents for the proposed structure by the device simulation method. Here, we confirmed that a contact area of 30 nm(2) in this structure, where Ge2Sb2Te5 is used as PCM, provides a reset current of 13.5 mu A and a set current of 4 mu A, which are promising for the scaling down of PCM. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the thinner PCM in this structure provides less thermal disturbance to the neighboring cell. From the results, we expect this structure to be a promising candidate for a high-density nonvolatile memory architecture with PCM. (C) 2015 The Japan Society of Applied Physics
