Analysis and Optimization of Output Low-Pass Filter for Current-Source Single-Phase Grid-Connected PV inverters

In this study, the design of output low-pass capacitive-inductive (CL) filters is analyzed and optimized for current-source single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) inverters. Four different CL filter configurations with varying damping resistor placements are examined, evaluating performance concerning the output current's total harmonic distortion (THD), the power factor (PF), and power losses. High-frequency harmonics are effectively attenuated by a second-order CL filter with the damping resistor placed parallel to the filter inductor. In addition, this filter type achieves the best performance by minimizing power loss. A systematic design methodology using filter normalization techniques allows to determine the optimum filter parameters based on the specified cut-off frequency (500 Hz), power loss (5% of rated power), and target THD (<5%). The analysis, simulations, and experiments show that under various operating conditions, this approach meets the grid connection standards (current THD < 5%, power factor between 0.8 leading and 0.95 lagging) while improving efficiency.

SVPWM strategy of post-fault reconfigured dual inverter in open-end winding motor drive systems

A space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) strategy of the post-fault reconfigured dual inverter in open-end winding motor drive systems is discussed. The reconfigured dual H-bridge inverter can produce the same distribution of space voltage vectors with the conventional two-level inverters, but different switches are used to obtain these voltage vectors. A new seven-segment SVPWM strategy suppressing the deadtime effect of insulated gate bipolar transistors in the same leg is presented, and its algorithm and implementation are discussed. The proposed method is validated by simulations and experiments.

Simplified implementation of optimised carrier-based PWM in three-level inverters

Carrier-based modulation has been widely adopted since it offers some benefits compared to space-vector modulation in both two-level and in multilevel three-phase inverters, such as inherent simplicity, flexibility, reduced computational times and easy implementation on industrial DSPs. Among the numerous types of pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques, the centred PWM (CPWM) is nearly optimal modulation since it minimises the RMS of the output current harmonics. Despite optimised CPWM being easy to implement in two-level inverters, the complexity increases in the case of three-level and multilevel inverters. A straightforward and simplified procedure to implement optimised CPWM in carried-based modulation for the three-level inverter is proposed and numerically verified.

Understanding and modeling of internal transient latch-up susceptibility in CMOS inverters due to microwave pulses

This paper analyzes the dependencies of the latch-up sensitivity of the CMOS inverter on the pulse width and the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of the microwave pulse. Two physics-based models are presented to investigate the microwave pulse triggered latch-up effect and allow IC designers to identify the worst-case testing condition with the combination of the pulse width and the PRF. In model derivation, the continuity equation for electrons is solved with different boundary conditions for the excitation of a single shot microwave pulse and the repetitive microwave pulses, respectively. Device simulation and experimental data reported in literature have been used to verify the validity of these two analytical models. The theoretical model for the effects of pulse width shows that the latch-up sensitivity is an increasing function of the pulse width on a shorter time scale. If the pulse width increases steadily, the latch-up sensitivity becomes independent of the pulse width on a time scale of hundreds of nanoseconds. On the other hand, the theoretical model for the effects of PRF indicates that the latch-up sensitivity is also an increasing function of the PRF and the number of pulses, only if the PRF is far greater than the reciprocal of the minority carrier lifetime. Otherwise, the latch-up sensitivity is insensitive to the PRF or the number of pulses. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a mathematical model for the representation of three-phase alternating current machines (synchronous and asynchronous) in direct phase coordinates. The paper also describes simulation techniques of six-step and sinusoidal types of inverters. The application of the current-controlled pulse-width modulation inverter with indirect vector control method is presented. Various types of faults are applied and the results are examined. The computer simulation is performed by using the Fortran programming language. Menus for monitoring and running of the program have been prepared using the VISUAL BASIC. As a potential source of turn insulation failure, the steep-fronted voltage at the motor terminal generated by pulsewidth modulation drive snitching or cable ringing is not uniformly distributed among the coils of the windings and among the turns of the coils, This paper presents a detailed electromagnetic analysis of the parameters of a transient model of coil and coil group which includes iron loss, sl;in, and proximity effects. The finite-difference method is applied to solve the model for the interturn and intercoil voltage distributions, The simulation is compared to a simplified lattice diagram analysis and to test results. A turn insulation surge-withstanding capability study is then presented with a flexible insulation test system that models the repetitive steep-fronted voltage stress and temperature stress.
