Compressed sensing, also known as compressive sampling, is an approach to the measurement of signals which have a sparse representation, that can reduce the number of measurements that are needed to reconstruct the signal. The signal reconstruction part requires efficient methods to perform sparse reconstruction, such as those based on linear programming. In this paper we present a method for sparse reconstruction which is an extension of our earlier polytope faces pursuit algorithm, based on the polytope geometry of the dual linear program. The new algorithm adds several basis vectors at each stage, in a similar way to the recent stagewise orthogonal matching pursuit (StOMP) algorithm. We demonstrate the application of the algorithm to some standard compressed sensing problems.

There are many applications for the ability to find repetitions of perceptually similar sound events in generic audio recordings. We explore the use of matching pursuit (MP) derived features to identify repeated patterns that characterize distinct acoustic events. We use locality-sensitive hashing (LSH) to efficiently search for similar items. We describe a method for detecting repetitions of events, and demonstrate performance on real data.

This paper presents the orthogonal extension of the recently introduced complementary matching pursuit (CMP) algorithm for sparse approximation. The CMP algorithm is analogous to the matching pursuit (MP) but done in the row-space of the dictionary matrix. It suffers from a similar sub-optimality as the MP. The orthogonal complementary matching pursuit algorithm (OCMP) presented here tries to remove this sub-optimality by updating the coefficients of all selected atoms at each iteration. Its development from the CMP follows the same procedure as of the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP). In contrast with OMP, the residual errors resulting from the OCMP may not be orthogonal to all the atoms selected up to the respective iteration. Though the residual energy may increase over the OMP during the first iterations, it is shown that, compared with OMP, the convergence speed is increased in the subsequent iterations and the sparsity of the solution vector is improved.

Projection pursuit model based on complex algorithm is proposed in this paper. The model overcomes the limitations of traditional water quality evaluation models. Projection pursuit model can reveal structural features of high-dimensional data, solve incompatibility issues of evaluation results of water quality indexes, and improve water quality evaluation resolution. A case study of water quality evaluation of Yuqing lake reservoir is presented to demonstrate the proposed method. We use complex algorithm to find the optimal projection direction, and analysis the impact of water quality indicators on reservoir water quality by projection direction information. The calculation example shows that the model is a powerful tool in analysing complex multifactor problems.

This paper proposes greedy numerical schemes to compute lower bounds of the restricted isometry constants that are central in compressed sensing theory. Matrices with small restricted isometry constants enable stable recovery from a small set of random linear measurements. We challenge this compressed sampling recovery using greedy pursuit algorithms that detect ill-conditioned sub-matrices. It turns out that these sub-matrices have large isometry constants and hinder the performance of compressed sensing recovery.

A novel image fusion algorithm based on orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) is proposed, which is named IFOMP algorithm and can be used for noise free or noise images. The matching pursuit algorithm provides an efficient image representation using an overcomplete dictionary. Firstly, the source images are decomposed into sub-images at different scales through Laplacian pyramid transform. The OMP method is exploited for capturing and fusing edges and texture features in the high frequency domain. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves performance compared to traditional wavelet fusion with slightly increased computational complexity, and the fusion image has good robustness.

This paper considers the scenario that a team of autonomous robots pursues a smart evader while concurrently building a global map in an unknown environment. We develop a modular hybrid system architecture to implement the decentralized control and coordination of multiple pursuers. A probabilistic framework is established to integrate the map building process with evader detection. Taking account of the nonholonomic constraints of vehicles, we improve the global-max pursuit policy with a novel underlying navigation method. Experimental results with physical robots demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

A new encoding algorithm is proposed for encoding matching pursuit parameters in image compression applications. The new algorithm is a block based coding approach that takes advantage of correlations in atom positions and inner product coefficients in a rate distortion optimal manner. Simulation results show the proposed algorithm significantly improves the performance of the existing encoding algorithms and outperforms JPEG2000 at low bit rates.

A feedback structure and signal recovery algorithm, orthogonal pruning pursuit, are proposed to apply sequential compressed sensing (CS) on ultra-wideband (UWB) communications. The prior knowledge is exploited by the feedback structure in time sequence UWB signals. The orthogonal pruning pursuit algorithm is utilized to reconstruct UWB echo signals by deleting zero entries to pursuit true non-zero elements. Numerical simulations show that using the proposed scheme, far fewer measurements are needed to achieve good performance compared with other CS algorithms for UWB communications. This saves substantial hardware resources in practical systems.

At present the multi-robot cooperation for completing a specific task is a popular research issue. The expect captured environment has carried on a series of limitation for the most existing algorithms; According to the multi-robot dynamic pursuit issue under the unknown and complicated environment, some unneeded limitations of environment definition were removed; the constant speed model of pursuer and escaper was built; the method of behavior-merging was adopted, and a kind of multi-task decision algorithm (MDA) was proposed for the problem. Based on the MDA, a dynamic robot pursuit algorithm was presented. A simulation experiment based on Teambots was performed. Through the simulation, numerical experiment results show the feasibility and the compatibility of the algorithm, especially when the escaper group is large.
