In this work, we applied the basis pursuit (BP) methodology for recovering the intra-voxel information in diffusion weighted MR images (DW-MRI). We compare the proposed BP approach with the diffusion basis function estimation (DBFE) algorithm. DBFE approach was previously applied to recover intra-voxel diffusion information in brain DW-MRI. The intra-voxel information is recovered at voxels that contain axon fiber crosses or bifurcations by means of a linear combination of a known diffusion functions. We state the DBFE solution in the signal decomposition context, i.e., the measured DW-MRI signal is decomposed as a linear combination of signals that belongs to a base of diffusion functions (BDF). In such a BDF, each signal is an M-dimensional vector, where each component indicates the water diffusion coefficient in a known three-dimensional orientation. In this work, we analyze and compare the solution given by DBFE method with the BP methodology. The BP methodology is used in order to select the set of base signals (which are taken from a dictionary) that best explain a given arbitrary signal. Moreover, solution strategies used in the BP and DBFE algorithm are compared and discussed. Examples in synthetic and real images are shown in order to demonstrate the performance of the compared methods.

A recursive algorithm is described for computing the representation of functions with respect to a nonorthogonal and possibly overcomplete dictionary of elementary building blocks. This algorithm, which follows the Orthogonal Matching pursuit algorithm, is used for the identification of fuzzy systems where the membership functions are the basic building blocks. The algorithm is demonstrated on the identification of the Glycolytic chaotic time series.

In this paper, we develop a unified framework for addressing consensus, flocking, and cyclic pursuit problems for multiagent dynamical systems. Specifically, we present continuous and hybrid distributed and decentralized controller architectures for multiagent coordination. The proposed controller architectures are predicated on system thermodynamic notions resulting in thermodynamically consistent continuous and hybrid controller architectures involving the exchange of information between agents that guarantee that the closed- loop dynamical network is consistent with basic thermodynamic principles. A unique feature of the proposed framework is that several of the proposed controller architectures are hybrid, and hence, the overall closed-loop dynamics under any of these controller algorithms achieving consensus, flocking, or cyclic pursuit possesses discontinuous flows since the controller algorithms combine logical switchings with continuous dynamics, leading to impulsive differential equations.

In this paper the earlier proposed short-time objective intelligibility predictor (STOI) is simplified such that it can be expressed as a weighted l_2 norm in the auditory domain. Due to the mathematical properties of a norm, STOI can now be used with the matching pursuit algorithm in the n-of-m channel selection technique as found in several cochlear implant (CI) coding strategies. With this technique only a subset of frequency channels (electrodes) are stimulated, such that important channels can be updated more frequently and less significant channels are omitted. Intelligibility predictions with acoustic CI-simulations for normal-hearing listeners indicate that more intelligible speech is obtained with the proposed method compared to a conventional channel selection method based on peak picking. Reasons for this difference in performance are: (1) STOI considers an analysis window of a few hundreds of milliseconds in order to account for important low temporal modulations for speech intelligibility and (2) spectral leakage per channel is accounted for in the mathematical optimization process.

A manifold defined as a smooth curve passing through the middle of data points can be a good morphological representation for the data feature extraction. In this paper, a new algorithm called nonlinear manifold pursuit (NMP) is introduced to find an ID nonlinear manifold embedded in the 2D Euclidean space. Based on virtual principal direction, the algorithm constructs the global topology from the continuous increment of the local topology. The corresponding nonlinear manifold is, then, developed by a set of piecewise lines passing through the middle of global topology. NMP is applied to both synthetic and real data in many applications such as skeletonization, object detection, and curve fitting

A method has been devised of using localized information to detect objects with varying signatures without prior segmentation. The detection is performed by a new class of nonlinear filters called matching pursuit filters, which are trained on multiple examples of the object of interest. Matching pursuit filters are designed through a generalization of the matching pursuit algorithm that allows for the simultaneous decomposition of multiple images. The matching pursuit algorithm decomposes a signal into an adapted linear combination of wavelets. There are two implementations of the matching pursuit filter design algorithm. The first implementation detects objects by correlating an image with a kernel designed by the decomposition of an observation of the object of interest. The second method directly compares the coefficients of the decomposition of the training set with coefficients produced by the decomposition of an observed image. The algorithm has been used for detecting features on human faces, identifying faces and searching for man-made objects in infrared imagery.

Projection pursuit model based on complex algorithm is proposed in this paper. The model overcomes the limitations of traditional water quality evaluation models. Projection pursuit model can reveal structural features of high-dimensional data, solve incompatibility issues of evaluation results of water quality indexes, and improve water quality evaluation resolution. A case study of water quality evaluation of Yuqing lake reservoir is presented to demonstrate the proposed method. We use complex algorithm to find the optimal projection direction, and analysis the impact of water quality indicators on reservoir water quality by projection direction information. The calculation example shows that the model is a powerful tool in analysing complex multifactor problems.

Discriminant pursuit selects time-frequency atoms as discriminant features that differentiate signals of different classes. Nonlinear distance measure was proposed to replace the common Euclid distance measure in Fisher's class separability criterion, which was used as discriminant criterion in discriminant pursuit. The presented method emphasizes minimizing the inner distance of the same class mainly. The coefficient vectors obtained by discriminant pursuit represent the time-frequency discriminant features of each class and were feed to the multiplayer perceptron neural network. The results show that the classification based on the proposed method perform best in identifying ultrasonic testing signal with accuracy rate 96-100% and very low mean squared error

In this paper, we investigate search strategies for multi-player pursuit-evasion games, in which a team of pursuers try to detect and capture multiple intelligent evaders. These are games with incomplete information for which there is no complete theory of existence of optimal solutions. We present a number of heuristic pursuit strategies and compare their performance using capture time as the performance metric. We demonstrate that reducing sensing overlap between pursuers and avoiding over-assignment of pursuers to target locations improve the performance of pursuit policies, and then derive some conclusions for their further development.

This paper mainly studied the algorithm for compressive sensing signal reconstruction, aiming to reduce the time of reconstruction algorithm. By analyzing the characteristics of the commonly used of orthogonal matching pursuit, we choosed two key steps of it to improve. Using stagewise algorithm in the process of atomic selection, while using gradient pursuit algorithm in the process of projecting the allowance to the subspace, to achieve a reconstruction algorithm, which based on stagewise gradient pursuit. The simulation results show that, compared with basic algorithm based on the orthogonal matching pursuit, the proposed algorithm has obvious reduction in time of reconstruction.
