This paper presents an approach of shape retrieval using linear regression. This approach extracts object edges from decomposed images in different scale levels and approximates them by the linear regression algorithm Matching pursuit (MP). MP uses linear combination of circular Gaussian basis functions to reconstruct target edges. Each Gaussian basis function contains several features: scale, position and amplitude, which are used to compute distance of two contours. Shapes are retrieved according to the distances between query image and all images in a database.

Using a low-level representation of images, like matching pursuit, we introduce a new way of describing objects through a general description using a translation, rotation, and isotropic scale invariant dictionary of basis functions. This description is then used as a predefined dictionary of the object to conduct a shape recognition task. We show some promising results for both parts of description and detection with simple shapes.

In this paper we have presented the MP algorithm as an alternative method for Gaussian beam decomposition. The results of the numerical example indicate that this type of WFT frame expansion produces a substantial improvement in the quality of the reconstructed field in terms of both the number of expansion coefficients and the relative error. However one major drawback of the MP algorithm is its computational complexity. Compared to the dual frame, the MP algorithm always appears to be time consuming.

At present the multi-robot cooperation for completing a specific task is a popular research issue. The expect captured environment has carried on a series of limitation for the most existing algorithms; According to the multi-robot dynamic pursuit issue under the unknown and complicated environment, some unneeded limitations of environment definition were removed; the constant speed model of pursuer and escaper was built; the method of behavior-merging was adopted, and a kind of multi-task decision algorithm (MDA) was proposed for the problem. Based on the MDA, a dynamic robot pursuit algorithm was presented. A simulation experiment based on Teambots was performed. Through the simulation, numerical experiment results show the feasibility and the compatibility of the algorithm, especially when the escaper group is large.

Matching pursuit is a greedy algorithm that adaptively decomposes any signal into a linear weighed expansion of atomic vectors that are selected from a highly redundant dictionary of vectors. We study signal enhancement with matching pursuit. By tracing and analyzing the procedure of matching pursuit with a specific Gabor dictionary, we find a way to obtain the underlying signal from noise with a coherent ratio threshold, as well as a method of determining the coherent ratio threshold. It is proved by experiments that the method can efficiently enhance a signal corrupted by noise without prior information about the noise and the signal. Finally, many test results are given, which are generally better than those of wavelet denoising.

In this paper, we introduce a decentralized algorithm for pursuing an evader with identical motion capabilities in environments with obstacles. Initially, we propose the Safe pursuit Buffered Voronoi Cell (SPBVC), which ensures the safety of robots during the pursuit, encompassing collision avoidance with obstacles, reciprocal avoidance among pursuing robots, and avoidance between the pursuers and the evader. Subsequently, based on SPBVC, distinct pursuit algorithms suitable for various robots are developed, where each pursuer continually computes the SPBVC and plans the control actions until the evader is incapacitated. Furthermore, we provide a proof of the safety assurance offered by the SPBVC during the pursuit. Ultimately, we validate the overall algorithm through simulations in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional scenarios.

Matching pursuits refers to a greedy algorithm which matches structures in a signal to a large dictionary of functions. In this paper, we present a matching-pursuit based video coding system which codes motion residual images using a large dictionary of Gabor functions. One feature of our system is that bits are assigned progressively to the highest-energy areas in the motion residual image. The large dictionary size is another advantage, since it allows structures in the motion residual to be represented using few significant coefficients. Experimental results compare the performance of the matching-pursuit system to a hybrid-DCT system at various bit rates between 6 and 128 kbit/s. Additional experiments show how the matching pursuit system performs if the Gabor dictionary is replaced by an 8/spl times/8 DCT dictionary.

In order to realize intelligent agent such as autonomous mobile robots, reinforcement learning is one of the necessary techniques in behavior control system. However, applying the reinforcement learning to actual sized problem, the ¿curse of dimensionality¿ problem in partition of sensory states should be avoided maintaining computational efficiency. In multi-agent reinforcement learning, the problem is emerged owing to the high dimensionality of each agent states. We apply the hierarchical modular reinforcement learning in order to deal with the dimensional problem and task decomposition. In this study, we focus on investigation of the learning performance of agent that represents the input states in relative coordinate system. We show effectiveness of proposed learning algorithm based on relative expressions with limited view through numerical experiments of the pursuit problem.
