Contrasting granite metallogeny through the zircon REE composition: Perspective from data mining

Yanshanian magmatism develops well and has obvious metallogenic specificity in the Qinzhou-Hangzhou bays of South China. Zircon, in granite, has great potential in the study of metallogenic specificity. Moreover, with the development of in-situ zircon analysis technology, a significant amount of data on zircon composition has become available in recent years. Hence, to further elucidate the distinctive diagnostic signatures of zircon signatures regarding metallogenic fertility and the preference for metallogenic types of granites, this paper exhaustively explores all possible bivariate and ternary discrimination diagrams using a set of 13 rare-earth elements with published zircon data from Yanshanian, South China. This results in 4095 binary diagrams and 12,485 ternary diagrams, ranked according to their success in classifying the training data. One-hundred binary graphs and 300 ternary graphs with the highest CH index values were selected, from which the graphs were picked out. The results reveal that there is no suitable diagram to distinguish between mineralization and barren granites. Further, in the diagrams to distinguish the type of mineralization, there are indeed some overlapping parameter ranges (such as Gd/Yb and Ce/Gd);however, it still can be observed that some binary and ternary graphs containing Eu or Ce (e.g. Eu/Gd, Eu/Tb and Ce/Sm) can discriminate between samples related to porphyry Cu and samples related to W-Sn (Sn). Some diagrams (i.e. Dy/Lu-Er/Lu, Gd/Dy-Er/Yb) also have been observed to distinguish between ore-forming types of granites, the underlying geochemical mechanism of which has not been fully understood. In addition, our results suggest that the linear discrimination analysis (LDA) method outperforms any of the traditional discrimination diagrams in discriminating ore-bearing and fertile granites. Design of Economical Fuzzy Logic Controller for Washing Machine

The washing machine is the most commonly utilized household appliance. The automatic washing machines are developed using Fuzzy Logic Controller by several authors. The amount of water, electricity and detergent are more effective parameters for developing economical washing machines. In this work, we design an economical fuzzy logic controller for washing machine which optimize consumption of water, electricity and amount of detergent. We employ Mamdani approach to develop the algorithm as this approach gives higher accuracy. In the fuzzy-rule basis system, 36 rules are created based on expert user knowledge. The algorithm has been implemented and simulated using python programming language. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm for washing machine provides better performance at a lower computational cost. The comparative analysis of proposed work with the previous work shows that our input-output control system optimises performance of the washing machine.

The description of complex river environments requires interdisciplinary approaches to collect and manage manifold data types and sources. Deriving comprehensive knowledge from complex data sources is challenging and necessitates not only knowledge of environmental science but also statistics and Software engineering. This study introduces a relational database framed in an application called River Analyst for creating and managing river data with open-source standards (python3 and Django). We conceptualize data models of river environments, which describe sediment characteristics and hydraulics related to hyporheic exchange. River Analyst enabled us to derive novel insights for restoring rivers affected by so-called riverbed clogging, notably, fine sediment infiltration in the hyporheic zone. The database analysis reveals that clogging is not a dominant control process when the fraction of fine sediment exceeds 50%-55%. In conclusion, the new Software holds promise for data-informed advancements in augmenting knowledge to restore ecologically functional hydro-environments.

Experimental-numerical study of wrinkling in rotary-draw bending of Tight Fit Pipes

The paper focuses on tight fit pipe (TFP) wrinkling in rotary-draw bending (RDB), where TFP is a double -walled pipe. To this end, a corrosion-resistant alloy liner is fitted inside an outer carbon steel pipe through a thermal-hydraulic manufacturing process. A 3D elastic-plastic finite element (FE) model (the dynamic explicit FEM code ABAQUS/Explicit) is developed in this study. This model simulates the manufacturing process in the first step of the analysis and proceeds in the rotary-draw bending analysis of the lined pipe. Then, in the third step, the springback of the two-layer pipe is analyzed. This integrated three-stage process considers geometric nonlinearities, geometric and thickness imperfections, inelastic material behavior, and contact between the two pipes. Contact pressure during the process in the presence of various imperfections is monitored by the histogram to predict wrinkling. Furthermore, the best bending angle, with minimum possibility of wrinkling in the inner pipe, is obtained by these histograms. ABAQUS scripting via the python programming language is used to study the effect of various imperfections on RDB. Numerical results on imperfection sensitivity demonstrate the significant influence of imperfections' amplitude on liner wrinkling. The ovality and thinning of the lined pipe via bending angle were investigated. By comparing the experimental results with those of the simulation, an appropriate agreement is observed.

From Tension to Triumph: Design and Implementation of an Innovative Algorithmic Metric for Quantifying Individual Performance in Women Volleyball's Critical Moments

This study introduces the critical individual contribution coefficient (CR-ICC), a novel metric that evaluates player effectiveness in critical moments of the game. We analyzed 16,631 technical actions from the top eight teams across 77 sets of the 2019 FIVB Women's Club World Championship, ensuring data quality through inter- and intra-observer reliability. Traditional variables such as points scored, attack and reception efficiency, and balance were examined. python programming was utilized to calculate the values of CR-ICC, which consider the contextual variables of set period, score difference, competitive load, and opponent's level. Akaike's and Bayesian information criteria, along with Nagelkerke's coefficient of determination, were employed. Binomial logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curves estimated the probability of victory associated with each variable. Interactive dashboards were developed, enabling dynamic analysis and data visualization. Statistically significant differences were observed in all variables (p < 0.05), except for reception efficiency (p < 0.05), at both the team and individual player levels. At the team level, points scored, attack efficiency, and balance exhibited the highest predictive abilities, with CR-ICC also demonstrating a strong predicting ability. The proposed CR-ICC has remarkable potential as a strategic asset for coaches, enabling the identification of players who excel in critical moments of the game.

We describe an introductory data science course, entitled Introduction to Data Science , offered at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The course introduced general programming concepts by using the python programming language with an emphasis on data preparation, processing, and presentation. The course had no prerequisites, and students were not expected to have any programming experience. This introductory course was designed to cover a wide range of topics, from the nature of data, to storage, to visualization, to probability and statistical analysis, to cloud and high performance computing, without becoming overly focused on any one subject. We conclude this article with a discussion of lessons learned and our plans to develop new data science courses.

Design and development of electronic stethoscope for early screening of valvular heart disease prediction

The significant human population of the world is suffering from valvular heart diseases and dies due to the lack of a simple predictive diagnosis system. Identifying the abnormalities in heart sound needs excellent auscultation skills and experience. Thus an electronic stethoscope is designed and developed using different microphonic heads. In this research work, hardware development of an electronic stethoscope interfaced with raspberry pi 4B and software development of the proposed CNN-based deep learning model is carried out. The Bluetooth-enabled electronic stethoscope is used to auscultate the heart sound analyzed with a developed deep learning Con-volutional Neural Network-based Efficient Network model. The developed CNN model is designed with classifiers to predict valvular diseases accurately. The analysis result is almost in real-time processed and stored in the Cloud. The design provides a better way of studying PCG signal analysis, which eventually reduces the cost and makes the system compact. The proposed model has been trained through a standard and validated heart sound bank of normal and abnormal diseases and predicts the abnormality with accuracy. The proposed modified Efficient Net -B3 model scored an accuracy of 99.35 & PLUSMN;0.34% on the test dataset with a sensitivity of 98.84 & PLUSMN;0.07% and specificity of 98.23 & PLUSMN;0.52%. The Selenium Web Driver tool with Google Drive API is used to automate the web application PCG signal analysis. Finally, the SQLite database has been used as a back-end server to store the patient record. The system is low-cost and portable, with data remotely accessible and tested with volunteers. The developed system can be used in rural areas where there is a lack of medical facilities exists and can be used to initiate primary screening of valvular diseases.

Buckingham's Pi theorem plays an important role in engineering, applied mathematics, and physics for dimensional analysis. From the given variables, it will be utilised to evaluate the set of dimensionless parameters. It indicates that the validity of the physical law is independent of the specific unit system, and it can be expressed as an identity incorporating only dimensionless variables associated with the law. A python-based function has been developed and reported in this manuscript, which can be utilised to evaluate Pi terms (commonly called pi terms) for any fluid flow problem. Smaller moderation in the written function can make it capable of solving any fundamental dimensions. Different fluid mechanics problems are utilised to test and validate the reported function, five of which are presented in this manuscript along with code. Obtained results are in good agreement with the theoretically obtained results.

An Interactive Web-Based Platform for Support Generation and Optimisation for Metal Laser Powder Bed Fusion

Powder bed fusion-laser beam (PBF-LB), a prevalent and rapidly advancing additive manufacturing (AM) technology nowadays, serves the industry by producing thin, complex, and lightweight components for various sectors, including healthcare, automotive, defence, and aerospace. However, this technology encounters challenges related to the construction of critical parts and the high overall process costs. Equally significant is the role of support structures in metal laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M). The absence of supports can lead to defective and collapsed parts, while the incorrect selection of a support type or the addition of unnecessary supports results in increased material usage and additional post-processing efforts. Therefore, there is a pressing need for advanced software capable of generating appropriate support structures and predicting the thermomechanical behaviour of a part under PBF-LB/M printing conditions. Such software would be beneficial for the industry to avoid printing defects caused by high thermal stresses, minimise material usage, reduce printing time, and ensure high-quality prints. In this study, we introduce a web-based support generation and optimisation platform for PBF-LB/M. Through this platform, among other features, users can import three-dimensional (3D) parts and generate block-type support structures with diamond perforations based on the PySLM library, all within a user-friendly web environment. The first release of the platform (v0.6) is fully interactive and accessible online at no cost.

Introducing the technical individual contribution coefficient: a metric for evaluating performance in elite volleyball

This study introduces a new metric, the Technical Individual Contribution Coefficient, that enables the quantification of the individual technical performance in elite volleyball, from the practical perspective of coaches. Additionally, three Relative Individual Contribution Coefficients provide complimentary information on the players' relative participation. Data from 20 matches of eight teams during the 2019 Club World Championship were provided by Data Volley software. The numerical evaluation of the players' actions was based on experts' ratings, and all calculations were carried out using python programming. Binomial logistic regression and the areas calculated under the receiver operating characteristic curves were utilised to predict set outcomes based on team variables. For individual analysis, Spearman's rho correlations and multiple descriptive analyses were conducted, and dynamic visualisations in Power BI were employed to enhance interpretation. The proposed coefficients efficiently predict both absolute and relative technical performance, across all game actions. This novel metric offers a comprehensive tool for performance evaluation and has significant potential to benefit not only fans and the media, but also coaches and team managers in their decision-making process for player selection. The dynamic visualisations utilised make it easier to understand multiple comparisons and to identify ways for improving performance.
