OpenAIRE - Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe - is moving from a publication infrastructure to a more comprehensive infrastructure that covers all types of scientific output. To put this into practice an integrated suite of guidelines were developed with specific requirements supporting the goal of OpenAIRE and the European Commission. This poster outlines the OpenAIRE Guidelines, highlighting the set of guidelines for Literature Repository Managers, for Data Archive Managers and for CRIS Managers. The NDIIPP ECHO DEPository project [1] digital repository evaluation will use an augmented version of the draft Audit Checklist for Certification cf Trusted Digital repositories (Audit Checklist) [2] to provide a framework for examining how well currently popular repository software applications support the notion of a "trusted digital repository." The evaluation will also demonstrate the application of a scoring software evaluation methodology similar to one developed by the Center for Data Insight (CDI) at Northern Arizona University [3], used for evaluation data mining software. This scoring methodology in conjunction with the Audit Checklist can be used as a tool by librarians, archivists, and other data custodians to make informed decisions as they develop digital preservation management services.

Open Education Resources (OERs) have been identified as instrumental in facilitating access to quality teaching and learning materials. However, despite the rapid development of technologies capable of making OERs, the uptake and co-creation of OERs by educators is still low. This paper outlines a study conducted in order to investigate the use of Learning Object repositories (LORs) in co-creation of OERs by educators. Using the Uses and Gratification theory, a survey was conducted with 36 educators in order to identify learning objects commonly used by educators and, additionally, to determine the factors that can positively influence educators to be co-creators of OERs. The results indicate that sharing knowledge, contributing to other people and intellectual challenge are factors that are highly correleted in motivating educators to be co-creators of OERs. The results also indicate that the learning objects commonly used by the educators are the course modules and presentation slides. In conclusion, in order for educators to be co-creators of OERs they need to be intrinsically motivated and be able to collaborate with others for non-selfish reasons. The results of of this study have the potential of influencing how LORs should be design in order to facilitate effective co-creation of OERs.

Many educational institutions have repositories for research outputs. The number of items available through institutional repositories is growing, and is expected to continue to do so due to requirements for outputs from public-funded research to be open access. But how much usage are institutional repositories and their individual items getting? The Jisc-funded service IRUS-UK is designed to help institutions understand more about the usage of their institutional repositories. IRUS-UK collects raw usage data from participating repositories and processes these into COUNTER-compliant statistics. This provides repositories with comparable, authoritative, standards-based data and opportunities for profiling and benchmarking. It enables institutions to run reports at both repository level (e.g. total download figures) and at item level. IRUS-UK utilises a robust, multistage ingest process, validating data, stripping out robot and unusual accesses, and filtering out double clicks, to transform raw usage data into COUNTER-compliant statistics. IRUS-UK currently has data from 83 UK institutional repositories (using Eprints, DSpace and Fedora software) and has recorded over 35 million downloads since July 2012. The data from IRUS-UK can be used to provide information for management reporting, for usage monitoring, and for external reporting. Data can be viewed within the online portal, downloaded for further analysis, or harvested using the SUSHI service (NISO Z39.93). IRUS-UK is also working with and contributing to other groups and initiatives involved in a range of activities relating to usage statistics. These include: the Distributed Usage Logging/CrossRef DOI Event Tracker Working Group, OpenAIRE2020 and COAR Working Group.

In this paper we describe how the open access repositories are valid channels for the publication of scientific grey literature. Technological development facilitates the communication of scientific knowledge, allowing expand distribution channels and significantly reducing transmission costs of the investigation. There are new paradigms of scientific communication such as open access repositories that must be exploited to provide academic and research free content, so that the scientific production is globally accessible to society. The aim of this study is to report the benefits of scientific communication model through open access repositories, especially the benefits for scientific grey literature, using as an example the theses deposited in open access and distributed through Gredos, Institutional Repository of the University of Salamanca. We present the fundamentals, the state of the art, trends and benefits of open access, understood as a radical change in the system of scientific communication. Open Access repositories are a new way to disseminate scientific grey literature so that this literature can achieve maximum dissemination and visibility, increasing the rate of citation. Currently the movement for open access is sufficiently consolidated. repositories are a key element in the development of this movement, offering multiple benefits, like visibility and citation, to authors, institutions and the general public. Doctoral theses disseminated through the repositories increase their use, visibility and consequently their rate of citation, while contributing to the public good.

Open source softwares (OSS) are a boon to research and development. Their free access and availability of thousands of projects pushes research into new dimensions. But are these repositories actually helpful in quality research? Heterogeneous and incomplete data, lack of integration between repositories, performance and usability issues and lack of documentation are few factors that affect the quality of research in Open Source. In this paper, we lay down the difficulties experienced while working on extraction and analysis of data from open source repositories for quality research.

Chasqui defines an architecture for repositories of learning objects in specialized domains that has been refined during the virtualization of two academic museums at Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). Learning objects in Chasqui follow the virtual object model, a specific model that has arisen and evolved during the two virtualization experiences cited. In this paper we describe how the Chasqui architecture can be extended with a flexible importation / exportation system that lets Chasqui repositories store learning material developed with other application profiles as virtual objects. This system makes the practical interoperability between Chasqui repositories and other third-party e-learning platforms and authoring tools possible. We also illustrate this feature with several case-studies.

This paper describes a communication model to integrate repositories of programming problems with other e-Learning software components. The motivation for this work comes from the EduJudge project that aims to connect an existing repository of programming problems to learning management systems. When trying to use the existing repositories of learning objects we realized that they are mainly specialized search engines and lack features for integration with other e-Learning systems. With this model we intend to clarify the main features of a programming problem repository, in order to enable the design and development of software components that use it. The two main points of this model are the definition of programming problems as learning objects and the definition of the core functions exposed by the repository. In both cases, this model follows the existing specifications of the IMS standard and proposes extensions to deal with the special requirements of automatic evaluation and grading of programming exercises. In the definition of programming problems as learning objects we introduced a new schema for meta-data. This schema is used to represent meta-data related to automatic evaluation that cannot be conveniently represented using the standard: the type of automatic evaluation;the requirements of the evaluation engine;or the roles of different assets - tests cases, program solutions, etc. In the definition of the core functions we used two different web services flavours - SOAP and REST - and described each function as an operation for each type of interface. We describe also the data types of the arguments of each operation. These data types consist mainly on learning objects and their identifications, but include also usage reports and queries using XQuery.

Currently, the use of learning objects is an alternative that offers the possibility that a subject can be presented in different forms and formats, which allows the material to be adjusted to the needs of students, however, if the repositories that are the platforms that store and make them available do not satisfy an acceptable level of accessibility, then the learning objects in many cases cannot be used by students. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to review the accessibility of twenty learning object repositories based on the WCAG using three automatic accessibility validators and one short manual evaluation, to identify the accessibility level, the accessibility errors and the accessibility alternatives provided.

The investigation reported here use statistical analysis of a repository database, analysis of policy documents, interviews with policy makers and staff identified as research active, and an online questionnaire directed at all research active staff in the institution. The results of the research suggest that not all university staff are fully information literate and that university administrators, aided by the university library, need to ensure that everyone is aware of the benefits of open access publishing and the role of repositories, if the institution's policies are to be implemented effectively.
