This paper researched the development and application regarding the black pottery's rapid prototype. The Tibetan nationality's Nixi black pottery is the nationality's traditional handcraft that possesses a long history and contains both actual functions and also beautifully appreciated value, while from the Nixi black pottery to the colorfully engraved black pottery, and from the primitive wheel-less manufacturing of soft mud to the modern wheel-less manufacturing of soft mud, the rapid prototyping technology realized the product leaping and handcraft leaping of the nationality's folk handcrafts. Regarding the research of the development and application of the colorfully engraved black pottery's rapid prototyping technology, it possesses important theory significances and economic values for the protection and inheriting of the minority nationality's non-substance cultural legacy and the boosting of the development of the nationality's cultural estate.

Invention has always made popular television, and the advent of reality TV, along with advances in rapid prototyping technology, has made it possible to design and create inventions in front of the camera. There is also growing interest in producing TV that attracts home viewers who are, or aspire to be, hackers. The authors describe their experiences making a cable TV show in which each episode is dedicated to creating a novel prototype. To achieve this goal within the time and budgetary constraints of the TV process, they must hack or repurpose both hardware and software elements.

The manufacturing environment has dramatically changed in the last few years. Worldwide competition among manufacturers and the development of new manufacturing technologies have contributed to today's competitive situation in many manufacturing areas. Advanced computer technology is the driver that has made global manufacturing competition possible. In this paper, the current research of advanced manufacturing technology at major institutions in China is introduced.

Selective Laser Sintering is one of the rapidprototyping technologies in today's market. It has attracted much attention and interest since the introduction of metal object fabrication by metal layer sintering. The success of this technology mainly lies in its ability to fabricate objects of complicated shape in a shorter time and at lower cost.,. However the complexity of new metal, object design has reached a level where some special-shaped objects cannot be fabricated without post-infiltration joining due to process limitations. This paper studies the feasibility of using the brazing process to join sintered parts fabricated by the selective laser sintering method. Suitable brazing metals were chosen by the wettability test and an application example of the fabrication of a new model heat exchanger fabrication is discussed.

Using medical models built with rapidprototyping (RP) technologies represents a new approach for surgical planning and simulation. These techniques allow one to reproduce anatomical objects as 3D physical models, which give the surgeon a realistic impression of complex structures before a surgical intervention. The shift from the visual to the visual-tactile representation of anatomical objects introduces a new kind of interaction called 'touch to comprehend'. As can be seen, from the presented case studies of maxillo-cranio-facial surgery, the RP models are very well suited for use in the diagnosis and the precise preoperative simulation of skeleton modifying interventions. The currently used intralesional or marginal surgical treatment of a bone tumour in the extremities shows some shortcomings in providing a restoration of the mechanical strength of the bone and the containment of the used filling materials. The use of a medical image based, preformed and custom-made titanium membrane screwed onto the periosteal side of the bone is introduced. This study looks in detail into the design process and the biomechanical evaluation of such a membrane. The buckling strength of the membrane, the strength at the perforation holes and the strength of the screw-bone fixation are tested experimentally. The two latter experiments are performed with different screw types. From the performed tests it appears that a titanium membrane without a wave pattern. of 0.3 mm thickness, fixed to the bone with seven trabecular bone screws (4 mm diameter and 28 mm length) is capable of carrying the anticipated mechanical loads on the reconstructed tibia. The medical image based design methodology and the first clinical application of such a preformed and custom-made titanium membrane are reported and discussed. The feasibility of preformed titanium membranes for bone reconstruction in tumour surgery is demonstrated.

In recent years, new surgical techniques have been developed to improve the quality of operations, reduce the risk to patients and reduce the pain experienced by patients. Prominent developments include minimally invasive surgery, robot-assisted hip operations, computer-assisted surgery (CAS) and virtual reality (VR). These developments have helped surgeons operate under difficult visual conditions. rapidprototyping (RP) technology has also found applications in medicine. The RP technique is able to fabricate a representative, physical 3D model. This 3D model can enhance interpretation. visual and physical evaluation, and the rehearsal and planning of the surgical steps before a surgical operation is carried out in order to eradicate the trauma. This paper presents the procedures involved in the conversion of computerised tomography (CT) scan data to a useful physical model. A case study of a CT scanned file of a patient who had an injury to the right eye socket is presented. Three different RP systems (SLA, SGC and LOM) are benchmarked for comparison in terms of the surface finish, accuracies, visual appearance and processing speed. Because of the ability of RP to fabricate models that are complex in design with intricate features that may be hidden by undercuts, as demonstrated in this paper the results of this research can be extended to applications in general engineering. One specific area of application would be reverse engineering.

Our rapid prototype of damaged systems project seeks to provide a technology for allowing engineers to build demonstration prototypes of damaged products from analysis post-processing data. Most commercial finite element programs do not have a capability to construct deformed geometry at the conclusion of an analysis simulation. It is therefore not presently possible to build prototypes of predicted states of a product as the result of being subjected to simulated adverse environments. Our approach is to reverse engineer a description of a deformed finite element mesh into a stereolithography format for prototyping using a Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) machine. This stereolithography file can be generated from deformed surface node information as well as from a reconstructed surface defined by inspection data. We are developing software to allow users to represent a part or assembly in a deformed condition. The damaged part can then be manufactured using the SLS process for visualization and assessment purposes. The resulting representation can also be used to create simulated X-rays of a damaged or deformed configuration for comparison with experimental test results or field data. This allows engineers to benchmark their analysis methods and provide increased understanding of analysis results through enhanced visualization. The process of reverse engineering ''in-use'' or damaged products allows for a more refined inspection and comparison of imperfect parts. It addresses the issue of whether or not a part will still work when subjected to certain environments or scenarios. Answers to this question can be found using our model reconstruction technique that represents an ''as-built'' engineering model configuration. An additional feature of this reverse engineering process is product benchmarking and closer engineer/manufacturer interactions.
