This paper describes the implementation of a proposed image reconstruction algorithm for stereo photo-acoustic medical imaging system. The main goal of this algorithm is to evaluate the existence possibility of acoustic source within a search area by using the geometric information which is the distance between each sensor element of ultrasound probe and corresponding searching point. We briefly describe the proposed algorithm in this paper which was comprehensively and clearly explained in our previous paper [1]. We also discussed an algorithm that is calculated the arc length of searching area corresponding to an element of acoustic detector. In this paper, some experimental results are presented which utilized the proposed algorithm with and without calculating arc length. We also compared the image quality of the proposed algorithm with and without calculating arc length and conventional k-wave algorithm in which FFT should be used. Apart from implementing the proposed algorithm with k-wave toolbox, we also implemented the hardware and software aspects of an ultrasound system that is explained in hardware implementation section of this paper. The simulation results proved the effectiveness of the proposed reconstruction algorithm with arc length calculation.

In this paper, we introduce a 1-bit compressive sensing reconstruction algorithm that is not only robust against bit flips in the binary measurement vector, but also does not require a priori knowledge of the sparsity level of the signal to be reconstructed. Through numerical experiments, we show that our algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art reconstruction algorithms for the 1-bit compressive sensing problem in the presence of random bit flips and when the sparsity level of the signal deviates from its estimated value.

Compressed sensing theory is a new kind of making full use of signal sparsity or compressible sampling theory. The theory suggests that collecting a small amount of signal values can realize accurate reconstruction of sparse or compressed signal. Through the research and summary of the existing reconstruction algorithm, the paper proposes a new adaptive matching pursuit algorithm based on regularization Regularized Adaptive Matching Pursuit(RAMP) for compressed sensing signal reconstruction, called blocking sparsity adaptive regularized matching pursuit (BSARMP) algorithms. In order to reduce the scale of a single observation matrix processing and the single processing speed, a novel method based on image blocking is presented in this paper, thereby improving the overall running time.

This paper describes a new two-dimensional image reconstruction algorithm for enhancing spatial resolution in millimeter-wave near-field images. The algorithm deconvolutes the images with the near-field radiation pattern from an antenna, which is not based on plane-wave decomposition and provides a constant spatial resolution independent of antenna characteristics. This paper presents reconstruction results from images of a 0.2-mm-wide slit on a dielectric cube simulated and measured at 76.5 GHz. Experimental results demonstrated the spatial resolution of 1.08 mm (similar to lambda/4) with the algorithm, which is close to the highest resolution determined with the diffraction limit.

We aim to realize a novel pen based interface system that provides various digital operations for both low-tech and high-tech people. In this paper, we propose a novel sensor fusion method between IMUs (Inertial Measurement Unit) and strain gauges embedded on a pen device. By using strain gauges for obtaining the correct direction of pen tip movement during writing, cumulative errors caused by the intrinsic noise/drift of IMU can be corrected. Therefore our proposed sensor fusion method can reconstruct longer handwritten trajectories such as multiple characters including multiple strokes that have not been achieved by conventional methods. This paper provides a pen tip direction estimation method using strain gauges attached on ink cylinder, trajectory reconstruction method using IMUs, and the sensor fusion method of both estimation streams. The algorithms are evaluated by writing experiments conducted by a robotic manipulator.

SPECT (single photon emission computerized tomography) is physically one of the worst medical imaging modalities. Despite a considerable and still increasing medical impact, its spatial resolution (beyond 1 cm) and its sensitivity (less than 10(-4)) are both awful. This situation is mainly due to the use of a thin parallel hole collimator. In addition the application of the unfitted radon-transform worsens the figure. We already suggested a different approach of collimation called CACAO in French standing for computer aided collimation gamma camera. This approach uses a large and long hole collimator, a different sequence of acquisition with a linear scanning motion and a dedicated reconstruction program taking full account of the depth dependent response function. Up to now, however, the CACAO project has failed to convince the scientific community of its superiority over the conventional thin hole collimator. This is due of a lack of a good reconstruction algorithm. In this paper we depict a new tomographic reconstruction algorithm for the CACAO problem. In addition to the former cited advantages, this new algorithm is exact, it takes full account of the finite geometry of the collimator holes, it reduces the type 1 statistical error (false positive) and reduces the hindering effect of points with large errors (outliers). Example of reconstruction with exact data and with a limited number of detected photons are provided. Comparison with MLEM algorithm is provided.

Orthogonal Matching Pursuit(OMP) is the reconstruction algorithm commonly used in compressed sensing theory, which has low complexity and easy implementation. Multi-Candidate Orthogonal Matching Pursuit(MOMP) improve performance and reduce the computational complexity, through selecting multi candidates adding to the optimal atom set at each iteration. Based on MOMP algorithm, this study presented the atoms matching criterion based on Dice coefficient, used the function of its important component vector quickly locate residual signal main component, alternatives to traditional rule of inner product similarity measure method, named DMOMP algorithm. The results of simulation and analysis show that the method can effectively improve the success rate of MOMP algorithm, reconstruction error, etc.

The effects of collimation and reconstruction algorithm on image noise in CT were investigated using several low dose techniques typical of lung cancer screening protocols. Tube current settings were 10mA, 20mA, 50mA, and 100 mA, all at 120kVp and 0.8 sec rotation time. A homogeneous water phantom was scanned with various mA setting, collimation, and reconstruction algorithm combinations. Noise was measured under each condition and radiation doses for each tube current used were extrapolated from CTDIW values measured at each collimation. Noise values for each mA, collimation, and algorithm combination were compared as a function of radiation dose (CTDIw) and were also compared with the noise and radiation dose,values of currently employed lung cancer screening techniques (e.g. 120 kVp, 50 mA, .8 sec, 2.5 mm collimation, bone reconstruction algorithm). The data shows that thinner slices (those < 2.5 nun) at the same mA setting and reconstruction algorithm yield higher noise values and higher radiation dose values than cur-rent techniques, as high as nearly 3 times the original CTDIw. In lung cancer screening imaging with CT, moving to thinner slices presents some difficult tradeoffs between dose and noise. reconstruction algorithm can be used to reduce image noise, but at, a price of reduced in-plane spatial resolution, offsetting some of the benefit of using thinner slices to detect smaller lesions.

A sparse signal can be reconstructed from a small amount of random and linear measurements by solving a system of underdetermined equations. In this paper, we study the reconstruction problem while the system undergoes dynamic modifications. Resolving this problem from scratch requires high computational efforts. Therefore, we propose an efficient homotopy-based reconstruction algorithm with warm-start, named WarmL1. WarmL1 quickly updates the previous solution to the desired one. Based on the concept of homotopy, WarmL1 breaks the reconstruction procedure into simple steps, and solves the problem iteratively. Four possible applications are presented and discussed to demonstrate the usage of WarmL1 for different warm-start situations. Experiments on these applications are performed. The results show that WarmL1 achieves 3.2x to 37.5x speeding up or up to 1/5100 l2-error at the same computational cost compared to related works.
