A small unmanned aerial vehicle (sUAV) can be used to reconstruct a 3D scene by capturing frames consisting of LiDAR and aerial photography data, creating a textured digital surface model (TDSM) with the full LiDAR point cloud and an overlaid registered image. Forming a complete 3D scene using texel images (fused LiDAR and digital image scans) from an entire flight can be computationally prohibitive on low-cost hardware, so a streaming bundle adjustment algorithm can be used to process the data using a sliding window. The streaming algorithm uses less memory and is faster than a full bundle adjustment. Depending on the flight pattern, matching points in the scene may be visible from frames which are not adjacent in time, so reconstructing a complete scene can take into account matching points from non-adjacent frames to better correct for error. A modification to the streaming bundle adjustment algorithm is described which finds overlap in frames which are not adjacent in time to correct for error. This algorithm also addresses the loop-closing problem that occurs when the sensor returns to the starting point of a survey. Flight data from a sensor constructed with low cost, commercial off-the-shelf parts is used to demonstrate how 3D scene reconstruction using this algorithm can correct for errors compared with data gathered from a full-scale aircraft. Examples of the resulting TDSMs are presented.

FRI Sampling of ECG Signals Based on the Gaussian Second-Order Derivative Model

This article presents a novel under-sampling method for ECG signals, aimed at reducing the sampling rate and power consumption in IoT-based ECG wearable devices. The key contribution addresses the common issue of model mismatch in existing methods, which negatively impacts signal reconstruction accuracy. Initially, the ECG signal is modeled as a linear combination of several Gaussian second-order derivative functions, which can be efficiently represented with only a few parameters, thus mitigating the problem of large model matching errors. To further enhance reconstruction accuracy, an improved two-channel finite rate of innovation sampling framework is introduced, effectively addressing the nonideal effects caused by the low-pass filter during sampling. Additionally, a modified annihilating filter reconstruction algorithm is proposed, allowing high-precision signal reconstruction using a small number of sampling points to estimate parameters. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed through simulations with real ECG signals from the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database, and a hardware platform is developed to verify its feasibility in a practical system. Experimental results demonstrate that, compared to the existing methods, the proposed approach significantly reduces reconstruction error (achieving a PRD as low as 2.29% and an SRR of 11.77 dB), and exhibits better robustness in noisy environments.

Deep Unfolding-Aided Parameter Tuning for Plug-and-Play-Based Video Snapshot Compressive Imaging

Snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) captures high-dimensional data efficiently by compressing it into two-dimensional observations and reconstructing high-dimensional data from two-dimensional observations with various algorithms. The plug-and-play (PnP) method is a promising approach for the video SCI reconstruction because it can leverage both observation models and denoising methods for videos. Since the reconstruction accuracy significantly depends on the choice of noise level parameters, this paper proposes a deep unfolding-based method for tuning these parameters in PnP-based video SCI. For the training of the parameters, we prepare training data from the densely annotated video segmentation dataset, reparametrize the noise level parameters, and apply the checkpointing technique to reduce the required memory. Simulation results show that the trained noise level parameters via the proposed approach exhibit a non-monotonic pattern, which is different from the assumptions in the conventional convergence analyses of PnP-based algorithms. These findings provide new insights into both the application of deep unfolding and the theoretical basis of PnP algorithms.

Quantitative yttrium-90 (Y-90) SPECT imaging is challenging due to the nature of Y-90, an almost pure beta emitter that is associated with a continuous spectrum of bremsstrahlung photons that have a relatively low yield. This paper proposes joint spectral reconstruction (JSR), a novel bremsstrahlung SPECT reconstruction method that uses multiple narrow acquisition windows with accurate multi-band forward modeling to cover a wide range of the energy spectrum. Theoretical analyses using Fisher information and Monte-Carlo (MC) simulation with a digital phantom show that the proposed JSR model with multiple acquisition windows has better performance in terms of covariance (precision) than previous methods using multi-band forward modeling with a single acquisition window, or using a single-band forward modeling with a single acquisition window. We also propose an energy-window subset (ES) algorithm for JSR to achieve fast empirical convergence and maximum-likelihood based initialization for all reconstruction methods to improve quantification accuracy in early iterations. For both MC simulation with a digital phantom and experimental study with a physical multi-sphere phantom, our proposed JSR-ES, a fast algorithm for JSR with ES, yielded higher recovery coefficients (RCs) on hot spheres over all iterations and sphere sizes than all the other evaluated methods, due to fast empirical convergence. In experimental study, for the smallest hot sphere (diameter 1.6cm), at the 20th iteration the increase in RCs with JSR-ES was 66 and 31% compared with single wide and narrow band forward models, respectively. JSR-ES also yielded lower residual count error (RCE) on a cold sphere over all iterations than other methods for MC simulation with known scatter, but led to greater RCE compared with single narrow band forward model at higher iterations for experimental study when using estimated scatter.

The pressure pipelines of a nuclear reactor play a pivotal role in ensuring the structural safety of the reactor, and the accurate detection of internal and surface defects constitutes a critical step in safeguarding its integrity. Despite the remarkable performance of CT technology in detecting surface and internal defects, the inspection of reactor pressure pipelines faces significant challenges due to the limitations imposed by limited-angle CT scanning. This paper is dedicated to the investigation of limited-angle CT reconstruction algorithms, conducting an in-depth analysis of traditional iterative reconstruction algorithms such as SART and ADMM-TV. The primary objective is to enhance the image quality by addressing the artifacts caused by the limited-angle acquisition in the detection of reactor pressure pipelines. Experimental results from CT detection of reactor pressure pipelines indicate conspicuous artifacts under limited-angle conditions. Although iterative reconstruction algorithms like SART and ADMM-TV contribute to alleviating some of these artifacts, our proposed DRP reconstruction algorithm demonstrates a more pronounced improvement in reconstruction quality. Through the refinement of limited-angle CT reconstruction algorithms, this paper provides a preliminary exploration of non-destructive testing and reconstruction for reactor pressure pipelines, offering valuable insights to drive technological advancements in the field. The study aims to serve as an important reference for promoting the development of techniques in reactor pressure pipelines detection.

Wide-angle digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is well known to offer benefits in mass perceptibility compared to narrow-angle DBT due to reduced anatomical overlap. Regarding the perceptibility of micro-calcifications the situation is somehow inverted. On the one hand this can be related to effects during data acquisition and their impact on the system MTF. On the other hand there is a wider spread of calcifications in depth direction in narrow-angle DBT, which distributes calcifications over more slices. This is equivalent to an inherent thicker slice for high spatial frequencies. In this work we want to assume an equivalent quality of raw data and only focus on the effects of different acquisition angles in the reconstruction. We propose an algorithm which creates so-called hybrid thick DBT slices and optimizes the visualization of calcifications while preserving the high mass perceptibility of thin wide-angle DBT slices. The algorithm is purely based on filtered backprojection (FBP) and can be implemented in an efficient manner. For validation simulation studies using the VICTRE (FDA) pipeline are performed. Our results indicate that hybrid thick-slices in wide-angle DBT enable to successfully solve the contrarian imaging tasks of high mass and high calcification perception within one imaging setup.

Continuous-sweep limited angle (CLA) fluoroscopy is a recently proposed method for live 3D catheter reconstruction using a single-plane C-arm that continuously rotates back-and-forth within a narrow angle during fluoroscopic image acquisition. This study compares the accuracy and computation time of two real-time 3D catheter reconstruction algorithms. The first approach, iterative model-based device reconstruction (MDR), optimizes the 3D location of 8 control points representing the catheter as a cubic spline. Optimization was performed by minimizing a cost function that describes the data consistency between reconstructed shape and 2D catheter segmentations in the current and previous fluoroscopic images. Alternatively, the second approach is a topology observing reconstruction (TOR) algorithm, which reduces the solution space by performing a graph-based analysis of the 3D vessel tree followed by an analytical minimization of a simplified cost function. Both approaches were evaluated in an experimental study where a microcatheter was navigated through a 3D printed vessel phantom. Accuracy was determined by comparing the reconstructed final catheter pose to a reference 3D cone beam CT scan. The root mean squared distance (RMSD) between reference and CLA reconstruction was considerably smaller for the TOR approach (1.88 +/- 0.34mm) than for MDR (6.78 +/- 4.4mm). Computation time was also shorter for TOR (0.34ms) compared to MDR (518.6ms) making it suitable for real-time reconstruction with clinically relevant frame rates. The clinical translation of CLA could improve procedure efficiency by providing an intuitive 3D visualization of the device within a vessel. Further work is needed to evaluate the approach in vivo in the presence of respiratory motion.

Theory and Applications of Sequentially Threshold Public-Key Cryptography: Practical Private Key Safeguarding and Secure Use for Individual Users

Motivated by the needs of power distribution as well as private key protection, the theory and implementation techniques of threshold public-key cryptography (PKC) have been being developed for a long time. However, researches in this field mainly focus on the needs and constraints in distributed environments which consist of nodes with computing capabilities and connected via peer-to-peer and broadcasting communication channels. The resulting schemes are theoretically helpful for private key security but inconvenient for individual users as their implementation requires distributed computing and networking system with broadcasting channels. To address the private key security issue of PKC schemes for individual users, this paper proposes the concept and general construction of sequentially threshold PKC under a communication model consisting of a computing device and several offline storages where broadcasting channels are not required. To illustrate the new paradigm, we design and realize a sequentially threshold Schnorr signature scheme STSS. The security proofs for STSS indicate its effectiveness of achieving unforeability under traditional attacks as well as security incidents caused by human faults and system failures. The experiments on FIPS recommended curves P-256, P-384, and P-521 show that STSS is comparable with the original Schnorr scheme in terms of time consumed for generating a signature. The construction of sequentially threshold ElGamal decrtyption scheme is also presented. Finally, we illustrate the application of STSS in the Blockchain ecosystem.

Detection Model for Automatic Defect Quantification and Segmentation for Stepped Eddy Current Thermography

The stepped eddy current thermography (SECT) nondestructive testing (NDT) technique is characterized by long heating time and nonuniform temperature rise. This causes it to remain challenging to quantify the geometrical features of defects on the inner wall of the tank roof and the outer wall of the tank bottom in oil and gas storage tanks. This article proposes a combined model for compressing and reconstructing thermal image sequences: the skewness model combined with the improved Gaussian adaptive background estimation algorithm (SM-IGABEA) for quantifying the defect morphology. The combined model is coupled with the first-order differential max-min method to quantify the width and height of defects accurately. The combined model combined with the first-order differential mean method can accurately segment defects. A mathematical model for predicting the residual depth (RD) of steel plates is developed to describe the relationship between the geometric characteristics of defects and the mean value of skewness. Finally, the generalization of SM-IGABEA is verified by elliptical defects. The results show that various combinatorial models and quantization methods are proposed for the defect measurement task. The measurement accuracy and stability of SM-IGABEA significantly outperform the mainstream compressive reconstruction algorithms.

A Multiple-Gain-Reconfigurable-Rectifier-Based IPT System for Battery Multistage Constant-Current High-Efficiency Wireless Charging

Inductive power transfer (IPT) technology is widely used for battery charging, whereas trickle charging is necessary for precharging a deeply discharged battery to prolong its lifetime. However, the trickle charging current is much less than the rated charging current. This leads to a challenge for IPT systems to achieve trickle charging and high transmission efficiency as well. In this article, a multiple-gain-reconfigurable-rectifier (MGRR)-based IPT system is proposed for the battery multiple stage constant-current (MSCC) high-efficiency wireless charging, especially for the deeply discharged battery MSCC high-efficiency wireless charging. With the MGRR, the IPT system can theoretically achieve 1.0, 0.5, 0.25, and 0.125 times of the rated output. Thus, trickle charging can be realized without a complicated control scheme. Calculation analysis shows that the proposed IPT system can simultaneously satisfy the battery charging requirements and achieve a near impedance matching for the high transmission efficiency. Finally, a 164-W prototype is built to validate the performance of the system. Experimental results show that the MGRR-based IPT system can effectively charge a deeply discharged battery with a high transmission efficiency as the efficiency in the entire charging process ranges from 89.4% to 93.7%.
