Ultrasound computed tomography (USCT) is one of the edging medical imaging technique to detect breast cancer at early stage. This paper proposed a modified ray tracing method (MRTM) which can be exploited by USCT. Different from traditional bent-ray tracing method (BRTM), the MRTM holds a hypothesis that ultrasound waves spread along straight lines and refract only on tissue boundaries. In this paper, the boundary information is extracted from B-mode imaging. We compare the reconstruction images using the MRTM and BRTM. The results show that the imaging quality of the former is similar with and even better than the latter, while the reconstruction time is reduced by an order of magnitude with the MRTM.

This contribution describes experiments with image reconstruction from projections based on perspective imaging techniques. Modifications of the basic reconstruction algorithm to eliminate some imperfections following from physical properties of used X-ray detector and applied scanning technique are also mentioned in the paper. The applicability of the parallel beam and fan beam reconstruction methods was compared on the test phantom objects.

Iterative image reconstruction algorithms have the potential to reduce the radiation dose in computed tomography (CT), but they are computationally intensive and their performance usually depends on careful parameter tuning. In this paper, we propose an iterative CT reconstruction algorithm based on the new class of variance-reduced stochastic gradient descent (VR-SGD) algorithms. Our experiments show that the proposed algorithm has a very fast convergence, while also eliminating the need for step size tuning. This study shows that VR-SGD can be used to devise very efficient iterative CT reconstruction algorithms.

Commonly used acoustic reconstruction algorithms for temperature fields assume that the sound wave paths between transmitter and receiver pairs are straight. When a sound wave passes through a nonuniform temperature field, the sound wave path will bend due to refraction. A comparison study on reconstruction accuracy with and without considering the bending of sound wave paths is conducted in this paper. First, obtain a reconstruction temperature field without considering the bending of sound wave paths. Then, find the sound ray paths in the reconstructed field by developing triangular method and acquire a reconstruction field with considering the bending of sound wave paths. Various single hot temperature fields are reconstructed from sound travel-time simulation data. Suggestions are given based on the analysis of reconstruction accuracy and feature of temperature fields.

Missing echoes in the raw data introduce artifacts that might be noticeable in processed SAR images. As a consequence, recovery methods must be applied to ensure the high quality of the images. Although spectral estimation based interpolators are suitable for the recovery of point-like targets, their efficiency is poor for distributed ones. In this paper we propose a new reconstruction method for interferometric systems, which uses the common information in one image of a coherent pair to recover the other and vice versa. Since a typical example of missing data happens when acquiring with the bistatic mode of TanDEM-X, the proposed method is verified with data from a bistatic TanDEM-X survey in addition to simulated data. The results show that the proposed reconstruction can significantly improve the accuracy of the resulting interferograms.

Numerous improved physics-based methods for Linac photon spectra reconstruction have been published;some of them are based on transmission data analysis and others on scattering data. In this work, the two spectrum unfolding approaches are compared in order to experimentally validate its robustness and to determine which is the optimal methodology for application on a clinical quality assurance routine. Both studied methods are based on EPID images generated when the incident photon beam impinges onto plastic blocks. The distribution of transmitted/scatter radiation produced by this object centered at the beam field size was measured. Measurements were performed using a 6 MeV photon beam produced by the linear accelerator. The same radiation distribution conditions were also simulated with Monte Carlo code for a series of monoenergetic identical geometry photon beams for both cases. Two systems of linear equations were generated to combine the polyenergetic EPID measurements with the monoenergetic simulation results. Regularization techniques were applied to solve the systems for obtaining the incident photon spectrum. We present a comparison between the well-known photon Spectral reconstruction based on Transmission Data (Trans-based) technology and the Spectral reconstruction based on Scattering Data (Scatt-based), which we both developed using EPID images. It is shown that Trans-based reconstruction results display much better agreement with photon spectrum theoretical predictions.

This paper proposes a method for 3-D reconstruction of underwater objects by using an optical camera and an imaging sonar. The optical camera built a volumetric model by performing simultaneous localization and mapping, whereas the imaging sonar built another volumetric model by using a space-carving approach. Two volumetric models corrected each other, and then the corrected models were integrated into a hybrid model to complete the reconstruction. The proposed method could reconstruct underwater objects with less volumetric errors than conventional reconstruction methods, but required more computation time. The proposed method could be applicable to underwater missions where the reconstruction accuracy is more valuable than the operation time.

This paper proposes a current compensation method for current reconstruction from a DC-link current sensor. The method has region in which phase current reconstruction is difficult. To solve this problem, voltage reference and carrier compensation methods have been proposed. However, these methods increase the phase current harmonics. This paper proposes a current compensation method that uses the phase difference between the current and the voltage reference. The effectiveness of the proposed method and characteristics of reconstruction current feedback control are confirmed using a simulation. Experimental results verify the validity of the proposed current reconstruction method.

This paper describes the enhancement of special resolution with a new two-dimensional image reconstruction algorithm in millimeter-wave near-field images The algorithm deconvolutes the images with the near-field radiation pattern from an antenna, which is not based on plane-wave decomposition and provides a constant spatial resolution independent of antenna characteristics This paper presents reconstruction results from images of a 0.1-mm-wide crack on a concrete block measured at 76.5 GHz. These results demonstrated 2.4-fold enhancement of the spatial resolution by applying our algorithm to the raw image, which is dose to the highest resolution determined with the diffraction limit.
